A peaceful Townsville suburb with river-, beach-, and dam-side camping nearby.
Black River, a northern suburb of Townsville, is an ideal place to set up camp on the outskirts of the northern Queensland city. It’s beside a river of the same name and within easy reach of Townsville’s beaches, beautiful Magnetic Island, and the important wetlands at Lake Ross. Formal camping options within the suburb itself are limited to older campers (over 50s) only, but other campers with their own vehicles can head to nearby beaches, river- and dam-side camps, and private hideaways in the forested hills near Black River. Townsville is conveniently close, if you need to restock the camp kitchen or repair some gear. Townsville and the Black River area are handy stopping points on road tripping camping adventures along the northern Queensland coast, between Airlie Beach/the Whitsundays and Cairns.
