25 sites · RVs, Tents200 acres · Riverton, SA
Edgehill Farm Stays is located between Barossa and Clare Valley, 7km out of Riverton, and 1 hour north of Adelaide. We run a sheep and cropping farm which creates beautiful camping grounds at the foot of the hills, just below the Heysen Trail. The campsites are located on the pasture paddocks of the farm with sheep roaming the area, so dogs on leashes at all times, and please pick up after them. With large distances between other campers, each site can cater for large groups, with no close neighbours. The sites are at least 2km away from busy roads, so absolute peace and privacy! There's a beautiful push bike ride from Riverton to Clare Valley and all the wineries are along the way. Plenty of room at the property for kids to ride their push bikes. Fantastic sunsets and sunrises from all sites, and at its best at the SUNSET BAA. Beautiful bird noises, including the kookaburras having a laugh. There's a very very basic "long drop toilet" pit toilet located near the Gumtree paddock and 5 others shared, down close to the camping paddocks, if not wanting to use shared toilets, please bring and supply your own portable toilet. Great coffee, cafe, and pub meals are available in Riverton. IGA food store is open 7 days a week, and a lovely clothing Boutique, Sassy Lass, is also open most days. Noorla Farm (Happy Camping Ground)

4 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents30 acres · Mcharg Creek, SA
We live in a beautiful valley on 30 acres, that not many people know about. We're joined by 3 friendly dogs, 4 horses, 2 alpacas, 4 Galloway cows and chooks, along with the resident wildlife including many birds, kangaroos, koalas, shy owls, and even an echidna! All this, plus beautiful views from atop our hills, right to the lake, and the delightful winter creek complete with frogs. We are close to the McLaren Vale wine region as well as wineries throughout the Hills and 35 minutes to the coast of Victor Harbor. The Greenman Inn is 5 minutes down the road and has wonderful food from Wed to Sun if you do not feel the urge to cook with wood fires for the cold nights or a gorgeous outdoor area for the warmer months. At present, we offer two areas for camping. Topspot which has lovely views and is quite secluded amongst the tree tops. This site is suitable for tents and camper trailers (need reasonable backing skills and 4WD) The Laneway which is close to the babbling creek is suitable for those with a small caravan, or motorhome, 2WD etc, along with tent campers. (but would struggle with large caravans/motorhomes - please check with hosts) (The Lookout/Highview has spectacular views and is suitable for tents and camper trailers, accessible by low-range 4WD (or AWD if the weather is dry) - Please note this site is currently closed due to stock rotation.) If you have any doubts about which to book, please ask. AUTUMN/WINTER MONTHS: if we receive considerable rain the trek up to the hill sites could become slippery and not accessible as it is a farm paddock, therefore unfortunately your booking may need to be cancelled. NOTE: On our farm there is limited phone coverage in the valley (The Laneway) Topspot and The Lookout/Highview do have coverage. Pets are welcome, however, please ensure they are kept under control (unless discussed with the host) at all times as we have our livestock and are surrounded by neighboring livestock, as well as the wildlife that frequently visits. Please note: This is an active small farm, therefore work may need be continued throughout your stay possibly necessitating the use of machinery and tending to our livestock. If you wish to see some of the animals up close, please let us know and we will try to accommodate. We ask that all fires be contained within the fire pit provided and a portable toilet is available for your use. BUSHFIRE SEASON: Wood and open fires are not permitted in the bushfire season, therefore you will not be able to use the fire pits.

Farm camping in South Australia with a private bathroom guide

Overview

One of Australia’s most compact states, South Australia offers outback adventures and wildlife safaris within easy reach of Adelaide. Head south to spot sunbathing wild kangaroos, enjoy lazy afternoons wine tasting and oyster sampling, and hike through red-sand deserts, forested gorges, and rocky mountains. Temperate weather makes SA a year-round destination for camping and outdoor activities, but it’s busiest during the balmy summer months. Cruise over to Kangaroo Island in springtime to see the cutest wildlife encounters, admire wine country in a canopy of fall leaves, or take a winter whale-watching cruise along the coast.

Adelaide

Adelaide is South Australia’s laid-back state capital, where parklands unfurl along the River Torrens, bars and restaurants sit riverfront, and arts festivals draw crowds year-round. Once you tire of the city, hop over to nearby Kangaroo Island, go for a beachside getaway along the Fleurieu Peninsula, or plan wine tasting in the vineyards.

Wine Country

The green hills around Adelaide house some of Australia’s finest wine regions. From the Barossa Valley, with its stone cottages and patchwork vineyards, to the leafy peaks of the Adelaide Hills—there are some sweet spots to sip Sshiraz or taste cabernets. Many camping sites offer direct access to the natural landscapes, whether strolling the beaches of McLaren Vale or cycling between cellar door wine tastings in the Eden Valley.

Northern Outback

North of Adelaide, the hills give way to the dusty red sands and remote bushlands of the Australian outback. Flinders Range National Park is the headliner, the dramatic finish line of the 1,200-kilometre Heysen Trail and home to the peaks of Wilpena Pound. Further north, the opal mining towns of Coober Pedy and William Creek offer a look at outback life, while Lake Eyre National Park’s pink lakes feature lakeside camping sites like no other.

Eyre Peninsula

Stretching west from Adelaide and the Yorke Peninsula, Eyre unfolds in a panorama of gold-dust sands, rocky shores, and deserted dunes. Coastal camping spots have the best views, and the sheltered waters of Coffin Bay, Venus Bay, and Streaky Bay are famous for their oysters.

Kangaroo Island

Bushlands, sand dunes, and wave-ravaged coastlines await on Kangaroo Island. Explore off-piste in a 4WD, spot wild kangaroos and koalas in the nature reserves, or walk the beach to watch fur seals and little penguins, then head back to camp for a campfire barbecue. Adventurous campers will find a number of bush camping grounds, while holiday parks provide a little more luxury.
