Enjoy a short hike to the Wind Turbines and see up close how magnificent these green energy windmills work. Or enjoy a hike along the famous Heyson Trail at the top of the range. See the stars in all their glory whilst cuddling up in front of the camp fire. Wake up to grazing cattle, sheep and wildlife on a beautiful working farm. The campsite is nestled amongst beautiful old gums and pine with sweeping views of the valley in front and a gorgeous range out the back. Plenty of Shade and places to explore. Dogs on Lead only. Host approval required at booking. Pit toilet available, BYO toilet paper. Bin provided for waste. Please use this or take it home with you. There are livestock on the property, please do not approach livestock unless Host is with you. Just a short drive of 30 minutes to the town of Burra you can enjoy the Passport Key and see the rich heritage of the copper mining era. Jamestown is 25 minutes drive where you can explore the bundaleer forest or see the tesla battery.

You will need to be self-contained with your own camping toilet/shower and drinking water supply. We grow veggies on our land - if you would like some for your campfire dinner please ask me. A nice spot to stay right on the heysen trail. This entire district is fairly open farmland but there were a few trees to camp under at the campsite. We knowingly visited after a very dry summer at the end of the fire danger season (no fires). The place would have a very different feel in the winter once everything becomes cold and green with fires permitted. It’s not hard to imagine hanging out out around the campfire enjoying the stars. There was also a spring/creek for the kids to explore and go off on adventures.

We really loved it here. Beautiful views of the hills in the background, lovely sunset. My son loved all the animals.... so did the adults. We loved feeding the pigs some apples and carrots and going to say hi to the cows , sheep and chickens. Was really nice to have different animals for the kids as a lot of places just have sheep in padocks. My son was in awe of all the farm machinery too. Toddler boy heaven. We got both the lamb chops and the 1kg meat pack and Oliver was really lovely and defrosted it for us. The meat was delicious. Would really recomend to get it while there. We will be back. We had a really nice time.

Mavericks rest was a perfect stop for my family and I. The sunsets from the campsite were wonderful to sit back and watch with a late drink. The meet and greet experience with the animals was the absolute highlight for us. Amee spent her time showing us around and giving us feed to hand feed her multitude of animals!! She was very knowledgeable and my children enjoyed the experience immensely. I highly recommend this as a stop for any traveller coming through Peterborough or even a weekend up from Adelaide!!!

Relaxed minimalistic natural camping spot. Good amount of shade, a bit rocky with some horse droppings about but found a small area that was flat and clean. Private. Horses in field next door are lovely. Would return for a night again.

Welcome to Maverick's Rest, a serene escape tucked away on the outskirts of Peterborough, South Australia, and connected with our working alpaca farm and newly planted lavender paddocks. Only 700m off the main Petersburg Road (entry off Dawson Road), Our bush campsites offer a blend of natural beauty, rustic charm, and unforgettable experiences, with each carefully positioned amongst old native pines, offering views of both sunrise and sunset, along with views of open farmland, distant hills, and animals doing their thing. Each site features a level pad to keep you out of the dirt and the prickles, while defining your spot. There are also firepits and bins on each site. We currently require all campers to be fully self-contained, providing their own toilet, water, and power for a true off-grid experience. We are a work-in-progress and constantly chipping away at making things even better! The centrepiece of the campsite is an absolutely stunning stone ruin. We wish the walls could talk to tell us its story! We are currently working on making this space accessible to all our guests - with a communal fire pit and seating areas opening soon. Your site will be near a dry creek bed near large trees in an open space where you may explore freely within the Creek Paddock which is about 5 acres. This is a horse property, so getting close to a horse is a strong possibility. Sunset and sunrise on the Flinders Ranges are beautiful, as are the morning clouds when they push up over the ranges. Mt Remarkable and the range running northward is what you will see. You will be greeted by wildlife, including Kangaroo and Euro, bird life, and many smaller critters who may be surreptitiously checking you out. This is a natural space so the ground is undulating. Vans and campers will be able to level without issue providing you carry items to help you with this. The access is year-round with the exception of extreme fire danger periods. In summer it is dry and dusty. The site is located about 200 meters from the main house. **Please respect our privacy and that of my other guests and keep your wanderings to the Hipcamp Site of creek paddock boundary. This is also for your safety. **Check out is by 9am. This is important as I hold other activities onsite including Equine Assisted Learning and Rewilding Retreats, that require no interruptions or observers. **Pets must be physically restrained at all times. e.g. lead, crate. This is for the pets safety and that of the horses, livestock and wildlife on the property.
