Hidden Valley House, Anakie

7 sites · Lodging18 acres · Anakie, VIC
Hidden Valley House is nestled in Anakie, VIC, set within the scenic Brisbane National Ranges and only a 1-hour drive from Melbourne CBD. Taking into consideration our ethos around sustainability, the cabin is “off-grid” so solar powered with a composting toilet but with all the amenities you need. The cabin has spectacular views overlooking the valley with an abundance of wildlife and has a small creek and several caves which have formed over millions of years. As well as the cabin, we offer a camping area to larger groups that need overflow accommodation if the cabin is not big enough. This makes Hidden Valley House a fantastic option for large groups wanting to have all the comfort and amenities of the cabin, but experience the back-to-basic joy of camping in nature. Set on an 18-acre property at the start of the Brisbane National Ranges, it is home to koalas, kangaroos, echidnas, sugar gliders and an abundance of birds including eagles and kookaburras. Furthermore, the land is protected by Trust for Nature and Land for Wildlife offering long-term protection for many ecosystems, species and native wildlife. The property is surrounded by national parks and is only a short drive from charming, historical towns such as Meredith and Steiglitz and only 25mins to Geelong. A number of family-owned wineries are located nearby and within Victoria’s Moorabool Valley winery. AWD/4WD recommended

Welcome to The Retro Retreat, a charming self-contained holiday house located in the heart of Forrest. Its central location makes it ideal for a weekend getaway, with the Forrest Brewery & General Store just a short stroll away and the newly revamped Southern MTB Trailhead only 100 meters from your doorstep. Our property features a fully fenced yard, making it perfect for guests with dogs. Enjoy a variety of local activities, no matter the weather. Take a bushwalk around Lake Elizabeth and try to spot platypus, or stroll up to the Barwon Dam to soak in the serene forest atmosphere. Stevensons Falls, recently renovated, offers a picturesque spot for a picnic. Alternatively, unwind on the deck or in front of the fire with a good book. The Retro Retreat boasts a spacious interior with a distinct retro theme. The house includes two bedrooms, a dining room, a lounge room, a kitchen, a bathroom, and a separate toilet. A large balcony runs along the back of the house, featuring comfortable lounge seating and a gas BBQ. An outdoor bath allows you to enjoy the night sky while listening to the sounds of nature. The deck overlooks a large backyard that extends to the hills and dam. Relax on the refurbished lounge in the Balinese gazebo, where you can watch ducks wander by and listen to native birds nesting in the trees. A fire pit and seating area make for enjoyable nights outdoors when the weather permits. Please note, the fire pit is not available during summer or when fire bans are in place. Guests have exclusive access to the entire house. We provide doonas, pillows, hand towels, and tea towels. Please let us know how many beds you require so we can prepare them accordingly. We are dog-friendly, and with the fully fenced yard, you can bring your pet along for the holiday! Please let us know in advance if you plan to bring your pet. Forrest has limited food supplies, so we recommend coming prepared. However, you can purchase delicious home-cooked food from the General Store or enjoy a meal at the Brewery (open Thurs-Mon). We are open to discussing late checkout arrangements, particularly for midweek bookings. Additional guests are welcome at an extra cost of $30 per night per guest.

Cabins near Lorne guide

Overview

Golden sand beaches with year-round surf? Check. Magnificent ocean views? Check. Miles of bushwalking trails leading to hidden waterfalls and coastal lookouts? Check! It's official: Lorne checks all the boxes for a must-visit destination along Australia's famous Great Ocean Road. Add to that a strategic location within an hour's drive of Torquay, the official start of the legendary road trip, and some of the region's most popular campgrounds and caravan parks. If you prefer your campsite to come with four solid walls and a comfy bed, renting a cabin is the perfect compromise. Opt for a family-friendly cottage with easy access to the beach, a rustic eco-cabin in the heart of the Great Otway National Park, or a riverview cabin along the Erskine River. Cabin rentals typically come fully furnished with a kitchenette, ensuite bathroom, and air-conditioning, and many also have a private deck and BBQ.
