Mission Tejas Campground

Mission Tejas is pretty small, but that doesn’t mean the fish are. Rent a pole or bring your own, and enjoy a relaxing day at the pond. Nearby picnic tables make it easy to eat lunch before catching dinner, and a nature trail loops around the pond if you’d like to find your own secret fishing spots. Perch and bream can both be found in the pond, and keep an eye out as you fish for frogs, toads, and salamanders.

Hiking trails meander through the beautiful pine woods, while nature trails let you take in the flora and fauna without venturing too far from your campsite. This trail map will give you a taste of the hiking you’ll find at Mission Tejas State Park. Follow the Big Pine Trail all the way down to the historic Rice Family log home, built in 1828, or check out the views from fire tower hill. If you come around the end of March, your hike will include some stunning dogwoods in bloom.

The tranquil waters of the pond, tall pine trees, and rustic architecture from bygone eras combine to make Mission Tejas State Park a scenic stop for any hiker or camper. In addition to birds singing in the pine trees, the pond is a great place for spotting fish and amphibians. Come in late march for some picture-worthy dogwoods, as well.
