Warm River Cabin

Peace out, boyscout. Head off to Warm River Cabin, and all signs of the grid can soon be a foggy memory. Located less than 20 miles from Ashton Idaho at Warm River Springs, the cabin sits 6,000 feet up in an open, grassy area, surrounded by a conifer forest. Hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikes can find trails just steps from the cabin, and off-road vehicle enthusiasts, snowmobilers, and cross-country skiers can find trails within 10 miles. As the historic home of a local hatchery’s manager, the cabin also has incredible trout fishing. The cabin is accessible by car in the warmer months, but in the winter, visitors should expect a six-mile trek from the Bear Gulch Trailhead by skis or snowmobiles. What to bring? Not much! The cabin has six sets of bunkbeds with mattresses, a dining area and living room, a wood stove, storage cabinets, firewood and cooking pots – outside, there’s a picnic table, campfire ring, and vault toilet. Water and electricity are a no-go here, though, so come prepared. While you’re out there, make sure you make a pit stop at nearby Mesa Falls Scenic Byway, a scenic drive to the only major waterfall in Idaho that isn't used for hydroelectric or irrigation purpose.
