Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Asessippi Provincial Park adventure.
History reaches back at Asessippi, from fur traders to Cree and Anishinabe Nations.
Just over an hour and a half’s drive from Dauphin, Asessippi Provincial Park is set on the Lake of the Prairie where the valleys of the Shell River and Assiniboine River meet. The park offers all of the best beach activities: fishing (perch, walleye, and northern pike), boating, and swimming. Landlubbers will find hiking trails, minigolf, a horseshoe pit, and those visiting with a group can hit the baseball diamond. For overnight visits, you can tent camp, bring an RV, or elevate the experience and enjoy yurts for a fun glamping adventure.
The camping season stretches from mid-May until mid-September. Earlier in the season, you are more likely to run into cooler temperatures, so make sure you bring warm clothes, especially if you are tenting. Later in the summer, the lake will be a bit warmer...if you are hoping to swim you may want to keep that in mind. And of course, weekends (especially long holiday weekends) will be more crowded than during the week. If you are hoping to camp during peak season, make a reservation as far ahead as possible.
