Eels Lake is a lake located just north of Kawartha lakes in Highlands East, Haliburton Highlands region of Ontario, Canada. Eel Cow, an Ojibwe chieftain, for which the lake is named, claimed this area and surrounding land as his family's hunting and fishing territory in the early 1800s. The many islands and bays found in the lake make for ideal smallmouth bass, largemouth bass and Rock bass habitat. The lake also has natural population of lake trout, walleye and yellow perch. In order to help preserve the natural lake trout population of Eels Lake, slot size and winter ice fishing restrictions are in place. Echo Shores is located in Unicorn Bay on Eels Lake in Highlands East. The cottage stands on the Canadian Shield with beautiful views of crown land across the bay.A rustic and charming cottage experience - the perfect city escape!  Includes 2 separate bedrooms, 1 pullout sofa,  kitchen, 1 indoor 2 piece bathroom, a 3 piece bath house (please note this is a work in progress, take care of overhead temporary light), TV, DVD player etc.  Get a true taste of outdoor living, unplug and unwind at beautiful Echo Shores!  PLEASE NOTE: if you are bringing a pet, please let us know in advance. We charge a pet fee of $35 per NIGHT, PLEASE add this as an extra at the time of booking. ONLY 1 PET PLEASE. The cottage is right on the lake so the activities are endless. Activities nearby include swimming, canoeing, hiking, wildlife watching, paddleboarding etc.  As you'll be spending a lot of time outdoors, we suggest you bring hand sanitizer, bug spray, and sunscreen.  There is a Canoe and Paddleboat for you to use.   4 adult universal life vests (rated for 90lbs +) for you to use will be located in the dining tent on deck.  For your safety, please take the bailing bucket boat safety kit with you (located in the Cabin). Summer is always fun at Echo Shores as is Autumn.  Highlands East Autumn colours are absolutely stunning and a favourite time to visit the area for  many Photography and Hiking enthusiasts.  There are many Artist Studio Tours around the area (look at our photos for dates).  What a great place to pick up a special momento!    Or,  bring your ATV and explore the many trails and participate in Geocashing; there are over 300 geocaches around the Bancroft area.  No matter what season Echo Shores welcomes you.                                             There is a barbecue, picnic table, and seating area all outside. Complete kitchen with fridge, stove, oven, sink, drip coffee maker, electric kettle, toaster, and microwave.  There are utensils, dishes, beverage cups, pots and pans, and a crockpot for you to use.   Looking for an evening of relaxation? check out the DVD's, or play a game. Of course there's nothing like roasting a marshmallow over a fire. Please take caution when burning; keeping your fire modest in size. If there is a burn ban, you will be notified. There is emergency contacts and more information on the refrigerator.   There is lots of parking on the property.  We provide a mattress cover and fitted sheet on the beds so PLEASE remember to bring your own pillows and bedding. Don't forget your beach towels and hand towels. There's usually a few kitchen towels, but you may want back up. Products provided: a starter supply of toilet paper, a starter supply paper towel, plus; a small amount of hand soap, dish soap and a kitchen scrubby, plus a few tea towels is provided. We have two garbage bins inside; in bathroom and kitchen, and one on the deck outside, and one in the bath house.  We recommend repackaging your perishables, etc in reusable containers before arrival to reduce the waste you leave with. PLEASE remember to take your garbage when you leave as we do not have a disposal service available, be sure to double check you have everything you arrived with. Leave NO print behind ;0)

Rustic Cabin on the Lake
The cabin is very rustic and located in a wooded lot. The lakefront scenery was beautiful. The dock is located in deeper water so it is easy to dive right in. The inside of the cabin is updated, newly painted and clean. Everthing is provided in the cabin. The shower is located beside the cottage and is still under construction. It is new, very clean and large. The exterior and property is still being renovated, but will be very nice when completed. The fishing was fair but it was still nice to get out on the lake with the canoe and paddle boat provided. Overall the 2 couples that went had a great time and we would gladly return again.

Beautiful.
What a beautiful oasis Sid and Elaine have created. We stayed a week and it was just what we needed. The feeling of being in the middle of nowhere while having all the comforts of home. The swimming was great the new shower was a nice surprise and the views off the large deck breathtaking. We couldn’t have asked for more. Thank you. We will be sure to return.

Awesome mini family vacay!
We had a great time for our 3 nights stay at echo shores. We had perfect weather and spent so much time in the water. Our kids (5 and 8) had a blast. The inside was very clean and had everything we needed and more. The outside was a bit run down and could use some upkeep but this did not impact our stay negatively at all. It is definitely a hidden gem and we are glad we booked it!

Our family had a fantastic time!
Well kept, well stocked, clean cottage. Amazing lake with good fishing, including off the dock. Lake is quiet, there is only a small handful of motorboats/Sea-Doos etc. Good privacy; there is a lot of brush/trees between the neighbours. Swimming is great - no weeds and water was warmer than expected. Nice large dock. Kids loved the paddle boat and canoe. I had many questions and Sid and Elaine were very responsive and accomodating in every way. We loved it so much, we booked it again for the Labour Day long weekend this year. Thank you for sharing your little piece of paradise with us! :)
