Purchased in 1989, this small piece of heaven was developed by Peter & Suelaine Poot into a home for their family and beginning in 2004, a welcoming alpaca farm.  The bush area has been used for camping by many local and visiting scouting groups over the years.  In 2021, we joined Hip Camp and now allow others to enjoy the beauty, peace, and challenges of camping in our bush. The alpacas are a peaceful herd to watch as they graze their way through the day. Crias (baby alpacas), love to pronk and play in the pastures near their mothers. During May you may observe us shearing the alpacas.  June is the birthing and breeding month.  They birth quickly, so watch carefully.  Tours of the farm with explanations of the fibre harvest process and opportunites to walk the alpacas are available to be booked through our website.

Site 1 The Bush
Amazing Experience
Our camping trip at Site 1 The Bush was nothing short of fantastic. The host was truly the best part of the experience—welcoming, friendly, and always ready to help. They made sure we had everything we needed and added a personal touch that made our stay unforgettable. Another highlight was their dog, BP, who was an absolute joy to have around. BP’s playful nature brought smiles to everyone in our group. We all left feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated. The peaceful surroundings and excellent company made this camping trip one of the best we’ve had. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable camping experience!

Site 2 The Lane
Not very private but great for kids
The kids absolutely loved the experience with the Alpaca. Suelaine was very knowledgable and great with the kids. She even gave them the opportunity to walk the baby alpacas in the morning. The reson for my mixed feelings is that we were under the impression that we would have more privacy, but we were pretty much in the owner's backyard. Overall, it was great for the kids but I feel as though the pictures made it seem like we would have a lot more privacy. The hosts were great and responded very quickly when we needed their help. Just keep in minde that you are very close to the host's house.

Site 1 The Bush
Great Campsite
Great hosts! Very helpful, and friendly. We arrived late (in the dark) and hosts helped us to get all items to our campsite (The Bush) and ensured we got set up with everything we needed. Easy access to any of the ‘extras’ with quick responses through the app. Would totally recommend!!

Site 3 The Loop
A great experience. We were four adults and two dogs. The host’s dog is super friendly and played with both of our dogs (came to our site often with balls/sticks/apples). The hosts checked on us to make sure all was well. You can tell they love their animals and were happy to share their knowledge. We got to walk the young alpacas to be weighed and even fed some! Note: Our dog normally does not like playing with other dogs, but their dog was patient and visited often to let her warm up to him until she was comfortable enough that we didn’t have to worry.

Site 1 The Bush
Relaxing Wilderness Site!
We had a great time! It's a beautiful site deep in the woods with no noise. Bring lots of bug spray and a wagon to wheel your stuff. Great proximity into Palmerston.

Great hosts! We were right next to the alpacas and the hosts’ dog was lovely as well. Would recommend to anyone looking to camp in the area.
