Buttonwood Hill is the first campground when hiking the Batona Trail South to North (Bass River to Ong's Hat). It's a long walk, 16 1/2 miles to the turnout and then another mile to the campsite. Nicely wooded.
There are only 5 sites at the campsite. It is right by County Road 542 so you'll hear some traffic all night. You'll have to watch your kids and pets carefully. There are picnic tables, fire rings, and one pit toilet.
During the summer months, there is a potable water (and flush toilets!) at the restrooms at Crowleys Landing restroom across the road & down the access road about 1/4 mile. There is no water at the campsite itself. You could walk to the boat landing to get water from the river to filter if necessary.
