Overview

About

Kinbrook Island Provincial Park’s sandy beach and expansive waters are a welcomed relief on a hot prairie day. On the lake, you’ll find no shortage of activities, including sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, and water-skiing. Once you’ve dried off, check out the Marsh Trail, a serene loop perfect for a quick bike ride or for spotting the area’s many bird species. In the evening, get cozy on the beach and wait for a brilliant sunset—the perfect cap to a long day of summer fun. The park has one campground, Kinbrook Island Campground, which offers many shady sites for tents, RVs, and group-use. Some sites stay open year-around for winter camping.

Notable Activities on Kinbrook Island

  • Best for RVs: Many Kinbrook Island campsites can accommodate even the most ginormous RVs.
  • Best for birding: Camp here to spot undisturbed nesting sites of pelican and herons.
  • Best for wind-surfing and sailing: There's ample wind on the lake to keep you cruising for hours.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Reservations are required during the peak season (mid-May to the end of August). Weekends and holidays book up quickly, so reserve a site weeks ahead if you're hoping for a specific weekend.
  2. Planning a last-minute trip? You might have luck with some mid-week dates.
  3. Campsites can be reserved up to 90 days in advance online or by phone. From early September until early May, many sites can still be reserved online while some become first-come, first-served sites. Some loops are closed during this time, but available sites are easy to come by.

When to go

The lake is the real highlight of Kinbrook Island Provincial Park. While summers are busy, we recommend joining the crowds and making the most of the beach. The lake is big enough for everyone to find a peaceful spot to themselves. The park tends to quiet down after Labour Day weekend, which is also a great time to kayak around the lake or explore the marsh. While we like Kinbrook best in summer, there’s also plenty to do on a winter weekend—snowshoe, ski, skate, or ice-fish.

Know before you go

  • The park only has one shower house with flush toilets, located between the campground's G and J loops. Pick a site nearby if you might need make frequent bathroom visits.
  • Mosquitoes love the nearby marsh and lake as much as you will. In summer bring bug spray, netting, and appropriate clothing—you'll likely need it.
  • Most campsites are flat and partially shaded, but offer minimal privacy, which might be best suited for trailers instead of tents.
