Whispering Pines - Curran, Ontario

30 sites · Tents60 acres · ON
'Whispering Pines' was bought about 35 years ago as our dream retirement home, a place to rest, have a quiet life, enjoy nature and have a peaceful retirement for ever and ever...In past years we have been a family camp. and an event camp with camping festivals, special events, and day visits. Now we welcome visitors who are looking for a casual, rustic, laid back experience with nature in a simple, peaceful setting. Nature is allowed to thrive on our property, and the entire property is forested and wild. The majority of our campsites are shaded under a verdant and lush canopy. Our private beach and small lake welcome you for a swim. All we ask of our visitors is: that whatever you bring in you take home with you, that you leave your campsite and the property the way you found it, and the only thing you take from here are pictures and happy memories. All of our campsites are off-grid, un-serviced, drive-in camping. Campfire wood and recycling facilities are available on site. Maintained outhouses are available throughout the property. There is no potable water on the property so please bring your own drinking and cooking water. Children under 12 can camp for free. When booking a campsite please only include any guests over 12 years of age in your guest count. Children under 12 do not need to be included in your booking. Contact us to inquire about large group and event rates. We host LARPing weekends twice a month. We also have a limited number of seasonal sites available from June to September. I love this property and all the people who visit us, many have become extended family and for this I am grateful. There is nothing nicer than to have people drop by and spend a couple of hours, a day or a weekend, sometime when I get real lucky it's for a longer period of time :-)

Camp, Ottawa river, Grenville C-O-G

11 sites · RVs, Tents59 acres · Brownsburg Chatham, QC
Come and enjoy a traditional/rustic camping experience on the mighty Ottawa river. Be sure to bring your water shoes and a canoe or kayak, or you may rent one of ours. C-O-G is located on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, east of the bridge that passes over from Hawkesbury, Ontario. This beautiful (mostly) deciduous forest (situated on both sides of the 344/Rte Des Outaouais), has been in the family for generations. The 59 acre property (50 acres on land, ~9 acres of river/water) features scenic views, privacy and is host to many outdoor activities such as swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking and more, with many other outdoor tourism attractions (white water rafting (Rouge River ~15kms away), Parc Omega (zoo)) located nearby. By paddle boat, canoe, or other similar shallow depth water craft, one can head upriver, around an island, and loop back through the remaining historic canal. ...It's a historic lazy river! Many amenities are only 1-3km away, such as a gas station (with fast charging and an M&M Meats section), an IGA grocery store and several restaurants including, McDonalds, Tim Hortons. You will also find some of the best poutine around, for a traditional poutine, try Jos Patate (they've been there for many decades now) and for a wild variety of poutine, head to La Fromagerie ...want ice cream, La Crémière is in the same building. A little History... Our property has played host to a portion of the rich history of this area which included three railway tracks, a canal and a lock. The railway beds remain and the lock has simply been flooded over. Following the war of 1812, three Ottawa river canal systems were constructed between 1819 and 1833 to bypass the Long Sault Rapids on the Ottawa river. These canals were in use until 1961 when a large portion of the canal system was submerged due to the construction of a hydro-electric dam (~22kms downriver) at Carillion. As a result, the river level at our property rose high enough to submerge the top of the lock walls by ~3.5 feet. This submerged lock is located a few hundred feet offshore and can be seen using Google Earth as it measures 50' x 300' in size. Once you have a good idea where it is, throw on your water shoes and a life jacket and enjoy an interesting experience of walking on the walls of a submerged lock.

The best camping near Oka National Park guide

Overview

About

A destination for Montrealers fleeing the hot urban summers, Oka National Park is easy to reach from the city and well worth a few days of exploring. With its beaches, wetlands, and proximity to gourmet wine, cheese, and maple, its popularity is no surprise. But not just a sight for sore eyes, Oka also features Le Calvaire d’Oka, an 18th-century religious complex of seven oratories and chapels near an easy 4.4-kilometre hiking trail with views of Lac des Deux-Montagnes. Kayaking and canoeing opportunities are plentiful in the park in summer, and while it’s lovely year-round, autumn is particularly pretty with crimson, gold, and auburn foliage. Camping options in Oka National Park are more modest than in other nearby areas, but the semi-serviced campsites and four-person cabin are available in both winter and summer.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for beach access: De la Crête
  • Best for ready-to-camp: Les Dunes
  • Best for cabins on a budget: Le Méandre

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Online bookings for campsites open at 8am ET on November 14 of each year.
  • Scoring a walk-up site is highly unlikely in peak season (May to October). Campers should book well in advance, especially on weekends.

When to go

Oka National Park camping sites are usually quite crowded, but particularly so in the last week of June, the last week of July, and the first week of August due to provincial holidays. While the park is open year-round, some services may not be available in winter.

Know before you go

  • To stay overnight at one of the Oka National Park camping sites, you’ll need to pay the daily entrance fee per adult on top of the nightly camping rate.
  • The park sometimes reaches capacity—arrive early to avoid being refused entry.
  • Dogs are allowed onsite, but only in certain areas. Guide dogs and service dogs are allowed everywhere.
  • Equipment rentals are available throughout the park.
