Adults-only glamping awaits in Northumberland, only a mile from the historic village of Bamburgh and its vast sandy beach, and with the Holy Island of Lindisfarne a drive away. This glampsite’s spacious Lotus Belle tents are luxuriously furnished with all that’s necessary for a relaxing stay – including a comfy double bed, a stove for those chilly evenings, and a firepit – and they’re set in an open field with unobstructed views towards the Cheviot Hills. When it's clear, the sunsets are to die for.
It’s all about the location here; Bamburgh Under Canvas is in a prime position for exploring what Northumberland has to offer. Based in the peaceful hamlet of Glororum, it’s only a 20-minute walk into Bamburgh, where you can visit its historic castle with spectacular views of the North Sea. Alnwick Castle – a filming location for Harry Potter and Downtown Abbey – is nearby, too, and there are plenty of popular beaches lining the Northumberland Coast.
The site is a real romantic couples' getaway, with no children allowed – though feel free to bring your four-legged friend, as up to two dogs are more than welcome for a small additional charge. There are only five tents, meaning lots of peace and quiet, and the Lotus Belles have some considerable advantages over a traditional bell tent, most notably the additional headroom that lets you move around without crouching.
Even though there are only a handful of tents, there are still two well-maintained shared bathrooms with hot water and clean toilets. Both are in quirkily refurbished horse boxes, befitting the luxury-meets-boho aesthetic of the site. Bath towels are provided, naturally, along with eco-friendly toiletries. The luxuries are such that you don't really notice the place is entirely off-grid. Save for when night falls and Northumberland's famously dark and starry skies are in full show. It means it's well worth packing a torch (though USB battery packs for phone-charging and lanterns are provided). It also means, for stargazing, there's no finer place to be.
