If you’re ready to brave the Minnesota winter, Afton State Park will welcome you with open (parka-protected) arms. During the winter, Afton State Park offers 18 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails and keeps its water and toilets available. In the summer, the park transforms into the land of Oz, with deep ravines lined by lush trees and grassy bluffs overlooking the crystal blue St. Croix River and swimming beach. Grab a spot at the Afton State Park Backpack Campground, one mile from the parking lot, and you’ll be sleeping in Mother Nature’s paradise.

Afton Campground

You have a nice hike uphill to get to the camp sites.
For a small fee you can cut all the wood you need with saws and logs that are provided.

Afton Campground

Small hike in to site, it was recommended to keep valuables out of site in your car. Great location just outside of the city. Also, wonderful for those of you who want to camp during the week before your 9-5. Quiet and near the river which is a nice walk/hike.
