Description

Target Meadows Campground is located on a picturesque meadow surrounded by magnificent trees of Engelmann spruce and Lodgepole pine. The area has a unique history–Target Meadows was once a summer encampment and artillery range for Army soldiers from the late 1880’s and 1906. The 18 campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The area is not maintained and can be inaccessible between October and May. Check website for closures.

We visited Target Meadows CG in early August 2023 midweek in a 24’ TT. The gravel road into the CG was well maintained and easy to travel. The CG is fairly primitive, although pit toilets were well maintained. It was a challenge to find a site that was level enough for our trailer. All sites are FCFS and many sites were taken when we arrived on a Tuesday in early August, so a popular place. No lakes or creeks/rivers nearby. Sites were pretty well spaced apart, moderately private, with somewhat widely spaced trees and bushes. We were pleasantly surprised to be able to have a campfire in August , probably due to the high elevation. Not a lot to do there, but if you want a peaceful experience, this fits the bill.
