Just south and east of the beautiful town of Prescott, Arizona is the Prescott Basin with more than 59,000 acres of developed and undeveloped land.

Primitive dispersed camping is allowed throughout the area. You won’t find any amenities, but you will find a rugged and wild land that is perfect for getting out of town and exploring at a moment’s notice. This is free camping at it’s very best close to town, in the heart of the mountains, and surrounded by beauty no matter where you wander.

Hawks Hideaway offers 8 campsites suitable for tents of all sizes, many of which can accommodate two or more tents (additional fees may apply). We also have a large, unfurnished teepee, and are working on a cozy, furnished country cottage. (ETA Sept 25). Large trailers and RVs are NOT allowed. Nearby activities include: bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, stargazing, and rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our beautiful skys. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study. We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects. You are responsible for your own safety and are camping here at you own risk. Please do not interact with any wild animals. If you encounter something and need help, please reach out to us. We live on the property and are readily available.

Harmony Acres is a small, relaxed family farm in the high desert near the red rocks of Sedona, AZ. We love to host nature and animal loving people that want a taste of country life. Our guests often become our good friends. We have the friendliest farm animals that you can meet and greet, and you can help around the farm if you want to participate or learn. Our sunsets and night star-gazing are just spectacular and we're enough off the beaten path that there's no crowds or traffic to deal with, but you are close to dining and area attractions. This is a quiet, rural neighborhood and a peaceful farm that borders the National Forest for easy hiking and few neighbors. The farm animals do cluck, crow, whinny, neigh, baa, bleat, squeal, and oink at various times, including early morning. There is one mile of a somewhat bumpy gravel road with hills to reach our neighborhood, so please make sure you are ready for that and have adequate towing power. The nearest services and dining are 5 minutes away. We are about 25-30 minutes to Sedona, the Village of Oak Creek, and the popular red rock hiking sites. There are many wineries and dining right down the road to enjoy. 1 hour to Flagstaff, 2 hours to Phoenix. Come enjoy a taste of rural Arizona!

We are situated adjacent to state land that displays a majestic Saguaro forest in the mountains. Enjoy easy access (via a short walk or off-road drive) out the front door to endless mountain trails, glittered with spectacular views. We love nature and invite you to enjoy the presence of wildlife. Our watering holes attract a variety of beautiful creatures, including mule deer. Enjoy the abundance of quail and rabbit throughout! All three Saguaro sites provide full RV services (water, electrical, and 30/50 amp hookups) with plenty of space between for enjoyment of the views. Boondocker sites are great for easy in-out dry camping, making for an early start for your trip out of town or into Phoenix. Loose gravel throughout all sites (except for Boondocker 2, which is easy in/out from the residential street). We are just 10 minutes from the I-17, nestled at the base of Mingus Mountain. Once you have made it back to the I-17, Lake Pleasant is a direct 30-minute drive west. Head south on the I-17 from there and it only takes 5-15 minutes to reach many more amenities including groceries, Anthem Outlet Mall, Shops at Norterra, and restaurants. Rent an off-road vehicle, boat for the lake (or bring yours!), or plan a tour and ENJOY YOUR STAY! The alpacas will be pleased to eat some grain from your palm and the rooster will wake you at dawn ready for the start the morning. Arrival before dark required for check-in unless approved by host in advance. Pitch your tent or park your van in a designated site of your choosing on 21 acres either tucked in the mesquite bosque, near the creek (hike-in) or among the sycamores (drive-in). Once an inland water way to the Sea of Cortez, the river was part of the trade route during ancient times. Many Indian Ruins and archeological sites to visit in the area. BYOB and BYO electric. : ) The camp spots are extra large, each one has gravel and asphalt to minimize dust and dirt. We have bathrooms and showers and an outdoor cowboy shower. It's rare to find a place to camp that's AUTHENTIC, HISTORIC, WILD WEST and offers amenities. The 1899 Historic Hotel offers free hotel tours, Gold Panning onsite, Outdoor picnic tables, Parties and Events, Adventure Tours to our Gold Mines - you can see in the distance from the 1899 Historic Hotel. There are nature walks next to the property, as well as horse trails. This is the roping capital of America so you will be surrounded by bull riders, cowboys and miners - for real! Wickenburg is 10 minutes away with restaurants and everything cowboy. This Historic Hotel is a giant piece of Arizona history.

Decent option for the area

Like the other reviews shared, the campsites are right off of the road, and there are a lot of ATVs that go by during the day on the weekend, but it quiets down in the evening. Pretty setting and not far from town. There were some gross spots where you could tell previous campers didn't dig holes to go #2, which was not fun with dogs. But overall not a bad spot.
