Palikū Campsite

1 site · Tent

Located at 6,380 feet on the east end of the Wilderness valley at the base of a rainforest cliff, Palikū Campsite is accessed via a challenging 9.

3 mile hike on the Sliding Sands Trail, or a 10.4 mile journey on Halemauʻu Trail. Frequent clouds and fog over the top of the cliffs behind Palikū may make you think Karl the Fog is vacationing on Maui and rain is common. Come prepared for cold and wet weather. Maui isn’t all sunshine and leisure, but that makes it all the more interesting. Just be sure to pick up a free permit at the Headquarters Visitor Center between 8:00am and 3:00pm up to one day in advance. For a full packing list, head here.

This is my favorite spot to camp in the park! So lush! It was our half way point for the sea to summit hike.
