White Deer Reach Campground

46 sites · RV, Tent

Tired of campgrounds that cram in campers like Times Square on New Years Eve?

We are too, which is why we appreciate White Deer Reach for its spacious plots that really let you stretch out and kick back. Other comforts at this roomy site include nearby restroom/shower facilities as well as water/electricity hookups, fire rings, grills and picnic tables. And though unlike Times Square you can’t watch the ball drop, you can watch the sun rise - and bask in its warmth as its soft-hues gleam off the lake.

Your guide to camping in White Deer Reach Campground

Overview

Biking

The diversity of trails and quick access from Dallas make Lake Tawakoni State Park the perfect weekend adventure spot. And with five miles to explore, you’ll surely find your new favorite North Texas mountain bike trail. Jump right into the lake after a hot ride. From the Blackjack Trail to the Osage Orange Trail, the thrills are endless.

Boating

With over 37,000 acres of water, Lake Tawakoni is a summertime Mecca for boaters of all ages. The four-lane boat ramp doesn’t hurt, either! So go ahead: put in, start your engines, and take a break from city life at Lake Tawakoni State Park.

Fishing

The provided cleaning station, massive boat ramp, and ample water acreage make Lake Tawakoni one of the best places to cast a line in North Texas. You’ll find everything you need and more to enjoy a weekend away from it all. And if you don’t have your own fishing equipment, you can rent some at the park headquarters. Don't have a fishing license? You're in luck! Stay on the shoreline and you're good to go.

Hiking

Bring your hiking shoes along to explore the five miles of trails within Lake Tawakoni State Park. The shaded oak woodlands will keep you cool from the Texas sun, but be sure to pack extra water, too. The longest route, Blackjack Trail, measures in at 1.5 miles and takes approximately two hours to complete. After that hike, the waters of Lake Tawakoni will be calling your name.

Paddling

Paddle around the forested shoreline or head for open waters—the choice is yours. Just be on the lookout for boaters and swimmers!

Swimming

Spend all weekend long sunbathing at the sandy beach on Lake Tawakoni. And when the sun gets too hot, dive right into the refreshingly cool waters. The designated swimming area is unattended, so swim at your own risk.

Wildlife watching

Think you can spot an elusive fox or bobcat at Lake Tawakoni State Park? Don’t worry—there are plenty of common wildlife sightings here, as well. Spend some time in the park and you’re likely to see whitetail deer, beaver, armadillo, and mink. Near the water, search for turtles and frogs.
