Weekend Trip to Double H Hacienda

Bill met us when we arrived. He was very friendly and helpful as was his wife Colleen. The entire property is gated and friendly dogs don’t need to be leashed. The location was near Saddlebrook which is what we were looking for. Our site was level and easy to get to. The area was pretty quiet with doves cooing most of the time we were there. Bill and Colleen both said there was a lot of work they still needed to do on the property, but we had everything we needed for our 3 night stay.

Charming little remote spot. I didn’t expect it to be so far away from the main road but once we reached the camp we enjoyed our time very much Our host Ken was super helpful and provided accurate directions which you absolutely have to follow or you will get lost.

I came here to do some soul searching. I definitely got what I needed and the setting and host were very supportive of this. The grounds are thoughtfully setup, clean, safe, peaceful, beautiful, and full of whimsy. Clifford is personable, loving, and professional. The care and consideration he puts into the camp is evident. I especially found comfort in the “playground” walking path. I must have walked it 8 times. The “Midnight Market” sundry was a godsend 24 hours a day — and yes you can pay with your phone. You can even buy firewood. I love this spot, Clifford is a bro, and I look forward to my next visit. If you want a spot with lots of space and brimming with character where you can really just be, this is the move!

I had no idea what to expect, my niece picked the property and I found the unit that suited me and my dogs. Super comfy bed, temperature control easy, great views, beautiful skies, clean. Very nice inside!

We LOVED camping here! The Cottonwood tree provided SO much shade for my husband and I with our 2 dogs. It was absolutely delightful to be able to quickly walk to the river to splash around with the pups. We only had enough time for a quick overnight trip, but we CANNOT wait to come back and for at least 2 days!

Tent camping at Hawks Hideaway was great! At our site specifically (#6) we fit 3 small tents with PLENTY of room to spare. The portapotties were clean and the property was as described. Vicky gave great directions to the location... it was about a half hour from Sedona. We would stay here again!

Adam and Shelley, were very accommodating to me when I realized I had reserved the wrong style campsite. Adam was very accommodating and quickly move me to another campsite so I could connect my electrical hook up. This occurred at 10 PM. He’s more than willing to come out of his house twice to get me the appropriate collection. Nice spot great people highly recommend them.

Weekend Trip to Beaver Creek Oasis

As we've come to expect (we've been back multiple times now), Laura delivered the kindness, warmth, hospitality, and hominess we've come to expect. We stayed in the RV trailer on her property, and, as always, we were comfortable and had everything we needed. The property is easy to access, even in a sedan or small SUV, and its location is central to lots of area attractions: Montezuma Well, Montezuma Castle, downtown Cottonwood, and much more. We especially enjoyed an afternoon with our camp chairs (and feet!) in the middle of the creek, enjoying the sun, the water, the birds, and a good book. We'll definitely be back!

Weekend Trip to Epic Private 300 Acre Saguaro Park

What an epic adventure in the Tucson area desert! Deacon and Debi’s site is cozy and quiet in some beautiful wilderness. They were welcoming and happy to answer questions and make the stay great. I loved the deck for stargazing at night. Very cool site!

Clean, quiet, beautiful. We had two dogs and there was ample space to run. Porta potties were very clean and circle of trees gave us shade too. We will be back!

Weekend Trip to Rural Ranch & Petting Farm

We loved our stay at Holly’s farm! The property is really conveniently located to Sedona. It’s also quite private and tucked away from the main highway. We loved meeting all of the animals on the farm, and Holly was so welcoming. We even got to cuddle with a couple baby bunnies. Excellent campsite for animal lovers!

I enjoyed camping at Hawk's Hideaway. Although I didn't talk with Vicky, she was available for any questions or concerns and sent me recommendations. I also felt safe camping there alone. The campsite was close to old town Cottonwood, which was very convenient. I could hear the traffic from the road at night, but it got very quiet later during the night, so it wasn't a problem for me. I enjoyed hearing an owl hoot and listening to the river during the night. It was a nice experience.

Hawks Hideaway offers 8 campsites suitable for tents of all sizes, many of which can accommodate two or more tents (additional fees may apply). We also have a large, unfurnished teepee, and are working on a cozy, furnished country cottage. (ETA Sept 25). Large trailers and RVs are NOT allowed. Nearby activities include: bird watching, hiking, river rafting or tubing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, stargazing, and rockhounding. This area conforms to the Arizona Dark Sky initiative, and while we are not dark-sky certified, we've had several guests compliment us on our beautiful skys. When it comes to rockhounding, or amateur geology, this is a fantastic area for exploration and study. We gladly welcome pets, as long as you take care of all their needs, including cleaning up any mess and filling in any holes. Well mannered, friendly dogs may be unleashed from time to time. Please, PLEASE watch your small pets carefully. If you're traveling with cats, please keep them on a lead. There is a riding academy and boarding facility adjacent to our property, and a long pleasant trail allows horseback riders, hikers and cyclists to travel along the Verde Greenway into Old Town Cottonwood, a pleasant 30 minute walk through lush riparian area. Hawks Hideaway is a family owned property, occupied by a 3rd and 4th generation, mother-son team. Two generations have lived and died here before us and we are proud to be the custodians of this majestic property, full of old growth, gigantic cottonwood trees. A birdwatcher, or naturalists dream. Hawks Hideaway is a natural and secluded spot located directly adjacent to the state-maintained Verde River Greenway. This means you may encounter wildlife and pests associated with being in such close connection to nature. Hawks Hideaway is next to many miles of wilderness. You may see or encounter wildlife of all kinds, most are harmless, some are dangerous. It is your responsibility to know the difference. Be prepared to tuck your food away and bring ample protection from the insects. You are responsible for your own safety and are camping here at you own risk. Please do not interact with any wild animals. If you encounter something and need help, please reach out to us. We live on the property and are readily available.

Our location on US Hwy 89 on the east side of the highway is only a few miles from the breathtaking aspens of Lockett Meadow, the ruins of Wupatki National Monument and the lava flows at Sunset Crater. The park is a short drive to downtown Flagstaff, and on the way to the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Moab and Durango. Stay the night or as long as you like! Enjoy the Junipers & see the stars fall over the Cedars! At 6000ft elevation the air is much cleaner and the weather is much cooler, especially in the summer time! We have plenty of space. A well house to fill up your water. There are also outdoor bathrooms, no shower yet, but working on that! We're just a short seven minute drive to the dump station at a local gas station down the road on the Deuce of Clubs and Penrod. We are 14 minutes from a large hospital, 10 minutes from major grocery stores, shopping and restaurants, and many other fun activities. Our location is in a perfect spot to enjoy the blue sky and great weather. Sunrise Ski area is a quick drive too! Pinetop Lakeside are within 10 minutes, Taylor and Snowflake are within 15 to 25 minutes. We hope you visit and continue to keep our environment clean and a chill spot to visit. Our sunsets and night star-gazing are just spectacular and we're enough off the beaten path that there's no crowds or traffic to deal with, but you are close to dining and area attractions. Camp Saguaro is nestled in a unique and rural area on the west side of Tucson, Arizona. With the Saguaro National Park Visitor Center, Tucson Mountain Park, and Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum all within four miles, there is plenty of opportunity to explore the outdoors. Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park boast hundreds of miles of hiking trails, and non-motorized mountain bikes are permitted on the trails in Tucson Mountain Park. What to expect: We are in a rural neighborhood where most parcels are 1-3 acres, we have seven acres. It's quiet around here but along with the natural sounds of the desert like yipping coyotes, and woodpeckers pecking, you may hear a horse, dog, or chicken. While we are on the outskirts of Tucson, we are not completely remote. We have carved our sites out of the natural layout of the desert. There are many kinds of cactus in our area in addition to the magnificent Saguaro, and uneven areas when walking. We keep it as natural as possible. We have a small "Mercantile" on property. This is our office, but we also have items you may have forgotten, and souvenirs made by local artists. Also available is firewood, and ice is for sale for your convenience. We have a small Laundry Shack (two washers, two dryers). You'll need cash for these things, we do not take any other form of payment at this time. Camp Saguaro is tobacco-free. Overview

Arizona is full of natural wonders, from the Grand Canyon to Saguaro National Park, with ample outdoor fun ranging from mountain biking to horseback riding. Much of the state is occupied by the Mojave, Sonoran, and Chihuahuan deserts, but start exploring and you'll quickly discover that Arizona is more than just jackrabbits and cacti—there are lakes, rivers, mountains, forests, and miles of hiking trails. It's also a great place for sleeping under the stars, and while parts of Arizona can get a bit too hot for comfort in summer, those same places offer pleasant camping weather throughout much of the year.

Where to go

Northern Arizona

While northern Arizona's best-known attraction is the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, there’s plenty more to see and do, from visiting Lake Powell on the Colorado River to backcountry tent camping among the ponderosa pines in the Coconino National Forest, Prescott National Forest, and Kaibab National Forest. Sedona, just south of Flagstaff, also makes a great base for hiking among Arizona's Red Rocks or swimming in Oak Creek Canyon’s Slide Rock State Park.

Western Arizona

Dubbed Arizona's "West Coast," this part of the state offers all sorts of outdoor activities, much of which revolve around the Colorado River. The town of Yuma near the southern border is a popular spot, featuring an old Wild West prison and serving as a good base for visiting the Cibola National Wildlife Refuge. Attractions further north include Lake Havasu State Park, where you can swim, camp, or even check out the 19th-century London Bridge. Further north, the massive Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers year-round camping and easy access to two lakes.

Central Arizona

While it's easy to associate central Arizona with Phoenix sprawl, this region offers a lot for outdoorsy types, all within a short drive of the city. Popular spots for outdoors lovers include the Superstition Mountains in the Tonto National Forest, Lost Dutchman State Park, and the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. If you're interested in archaeology, the Montezuma Castle National Monument is also worth a visit.

Southern Arizona

Southern Arizona is full of Wild West spirit, with a mix of historic ghost towns and scenic desert landscapes, plus plenty of forests, particularly in the Chiricahua Mountains. Must-visit parks include Saguaro National Park and Catalina State Park—both just outside Tucson. If it gets too hot, make like a local and head to Patagonia Lake State Park, a prime spot to swim and cool off from the Arizona heat.
