Nice camping spot, reasonable price. Wash water, sunny dish racks, super clean portable toilet, fire pit, wood and kindling all around to collect and burn, trees, shade, privacy screens in campsites, art instillations, responsive friendly hosts, drinking water, ceramics studio, winery, summer concert series?!!! The painted animals on the trash cans are super cute. Host checked in via text, he was away while we were there. It was fine because I go camping to hermit. We booked this campsite to try out backpacking gear we borrowed from our friends. This was a nice base and there's lots of good trails nearby. I now know I don't like backpacking . I really enjoyed this campsite, it was very private feeling and well cared for. I'm looking forward to coming back with our regular set up.

This was my first solo camping trip and first camping in Cali (I grew up camping a lot in Washington with family but it’s been years) so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It absolutely POURED rain while I was there, I thought I had a flat, and I wasn’t fully prepared for the rain or food so I was STRESSED. But let me tell you - it was one of the best trips I’ve had. The pictures don’t do justice. It was so stunning there and is an absolute gem of a site. I was kept company by so many creatures - dogs and cats and horses and chickens and goats and cow were absolutely treasures. The dogs cats and horses are so friendly and felt like forest guardians walking us to the bathroom, watching over us at night and taking afternoon naps with us intermittently. They didn’t say they were an animal haven but it felt like a paradise. The pair of horses roaming and eating were so dreamy and moving to see. Other campers were so nice and we had so much space that it felt really perfect for peace and optional interaction. I came to reconnect with myself and my dog and nature and figure out some hard life questions and it was just beyond perfect. I read and breathed and just existed - and it felt more okay to be that way, and just pace to the sun and basic needs than I’ve felt in years. The wind and sunshine and meadows were an absolute dream, (it smelled green and whole) and I’m already missing being there. They were also responsive to needs!

My family of 3 loved our weekend getaway at Ascension Ranch! The host was very flexible with our late arrival and provided prompt directions on how to get to our camp in the dark. We were greeted by the two very friendly dogs mentioned in other reviews who our son loved interacting with. On our first morning, we woke up to the pack of local turkeys grazing in the meadow, and shortly after were visited by the two horses on the property. Our son loved feeding them carrots which was a first time experience. The nearby walking trail that wraps around the lake is quite long and would be perfect for an easy hike or a MTB ride. The meadow site was expansive and could easy accommodate larger vehicles and larger groups. We visited in late March and had beautiful green grass and plenty of wildflowers. We will definitely return.

4 nights at Rocksteady Adventures

We had a blast camping at Rocksteady Adventures. John and Trina were so helpful and took great care of us. The lake was gorgeous, with beautiful wildlife, and we had a great time swimming and canoeing. The camp sites were spacious and fairly flat, with just the right amount of sunshine and shade. We got to enjoy some live music as well. The weather was perfect and we would definitely come back again in the Spring.

This way my first time tent camping and it was the perfect spot to set up. The view was absolutely gorgeous. The area was slightly out of level, but nothing I couldn’t work with. Very clean and spacious. Will definitely come here again when I’m in the area.

Ascension Ranch is such a special place, full of life and warmth. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by three playful puppies and two loving guard dogs. Our campsite was next to a sweet pregnant cow named Dixie, and we loved watching the horses roam freely. Thanks to our generous hosts, my nieces even got to sit on a couple of them, which was such a fun experience. On our way to the bathroom, we were always greeted by the friendly chickens, which added to the charm of the place. The hosts were incredibly kind and helpful, Rick, Mia, and Kelly. They even checked in to see if the dogs were bothering us (they weren’t, but we really appreciated their thoughtfulness). We also enjoyed the short, easy 10-minute walk to Folsom Lake—it was such a peaceful spot to visit. I can’t recommend Ascension Ranch enough. There’s something truly special about it, and we felt so welcomed. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

We stayed at the Hidden Oak spot with our 20ft trailer and a few tents. As we rolled in we could see the other campsites but once we were at our site we felt secluded which is the best perk to HipCamps of you ask us. Access to the lake, room to roam, seclusion, greenery, friendly dogs, beautiful horses, and ease. This place is great. We had several 18-19 yrs olds with us who loved it. The trip was for our daughter’s 18th birthday.The host were helpful when we had questions , a breeze to book with. With this place being so close to home we will definitely be back.

Meadow View was beautiful. The campsite was clean but a bit far from water and the toilet, so best to plan to be somewhat self contained. The windmill definitely adds a bonus charm. There are horses roaming around in the property and they were grazing right on top of our site - it was so cool! At night as we were cooking and relaxing by the campsite, one of the anatolian shepherd dogs (who was such a gentle sweetheart) came by to lie down next to us. Would definitely recommend, especially if you like animals and are comfortable being around them.

My friends and I had the loveliest weekend getaway at Ascension Ranch. The hosts were kind and their details thorough, the campsite was clean and the scenery was gorgeous. The best part, of course, was the critters: horses, cows, chickens, cats, and puppies were free to roam. You couldn't give these animals a better place to live if you tried. We will be back next Spring!

1 night at Ascension Ranch

Fairly easy to find if you follow the directions on Hipcamp. It is tucked away off Rattlesnake Bar Rd. When we arrived we passed through a secure gate and into a common area with a few buildings and a large open space to park momentarily. There were bundles of wood for sale and portable restrooms. We were greeted by Kyro, a lovely and massive shepherd dog, who came down from his flatbed perch across from the chicken coup to say hello. After giving him a few pets we headed to the campsite which was through another secure gate and into a large pasture with trees. We followed the trail and the hosts directions about a 1/4 mile in and came to our campsite. Within about an hour of arriving, we were slowly surrounded by five horses. They seemed to know that we were hiding carrots which we were and that was a good thing. My daughter was thrilled to say the least. This was a fun spot for a quick one night getaway. There’s a lot of horse poop around but we shoveled it away easily and made up our tent and camp. It’s on a bit of a slope but it was doable. The picnic bench is large and great. Bathrooms are back at the entrance area which is a good walk and probably better to drive to. The management said they were working on getting closer toilets installed. We camped in February 2025 and it was green and pretty. Would go back again with more carrots of course 😄

We had a great time staying at The Meadows. Since we were the only guests, we didn’t stay in site 1 and opted for a site (no #) overlooking a vineyard. Great place, peaceful yet very close to town.

This private lake supports the fire protection efforts of the Mosquito Fire Protection District and the firefighters of this community. Camp Watanda at Lake Vera

FYI: We are a very small lake and experience seasonal lows towards the end of the summer. I cannot predict what the lake condition will be in August. Camp Watanda is a retired resident camp that we have converted to a vacation rental. We have 10 acres of wooded property, with the 4 camping kiosks close to the waterfront and 1 RV site on the waterfront. The camping kiosk all have 8-10 mattresses, grilling table, picnic table, cooler, smoke alarms, rake, broom and fire extinguishers. We are pet friendly with 1 dog per kiosk. Tents can be pitched on the elevated decks. Our waterfront has a large fire ring, 2-covered pergolas, canoes, kayaks, life jackets and charcoal grill. Lots of fish in the lake, since this is a private lake, no license is required. There is also a bathhouse (very primitive and in serious need of remodel) close by with 3 showers, 3 toilets and 3 sinks. Up by the lodge is a cell phone charging station and Wi-Fi, while we do have Wi-Fi, it is not guaranteed, we are in the mountains with inconsistent connection. Lodge is not available to campers as this is rented separately. No dispersed camping. RV CAMPING: Because of the steep driveway and blind curve, we limit the vehicle length to 25 overall length. Our driveway is more suitable for RV's and Camper Vans and not Travel Trailers being towed. If you rent a kiosk, all campers must be on the same kiosk unless you rent a second kiosk. If you have a camping van and plan on using the van and the kiosk, then that is a second site. You cannot tailgate on a reservation just because the party only has 2 people on the kiosk, and you have 2 in the Van to make 4 people. These are tents sites on a Kiosk, there is parking for cars or trucks at the kiosk, not suitable for RV or Travel Trailers. Those vehicles will have to park at the waterfront parking lot. There are no refunds for cancellations within 72 hours of arrival. Camp Watanda is private property, campers assume all liability for being on site. There is no lifeguard present. This is a natural habitat for woodland animals, there is an associated risk for camping in their home. Slips, trips and falls can occur on trails, camping structures and waterfront.

I bought the deserted kiwi orchard in 1997, thinking it would be a place of healing. As the days and weeks progressed, I felt that all I wanted to do was to learn what the land had to teach me. So I turned all my attention and intention toward Nature, and began to reclaim the orchard from the blackberry overgrowth. As the years have gone by, I have added many other crops. Now we produce fruits, flowers, herbs, Microgreens & Vegetables... & I am still learning!! We would be happy to create a cleansing refreshment or meal for campers if notified in advance. We are happy to host campers who have a passion for Nature and are interested in sustainable living and seeing the beauty of the Sierra Foothills.
