It's about a 30-minute drive on back roads, but you pop up right in the heart of Murphy's and have nearby parking behind Main Street. Our town Mountain Ranch has Saturday afternoon craft fairs, occasionally car shows, farmers market, etc. Small historic sites are nearby in Cave City, Mokelumne Museum, and old town San Andres with a Saloon and performing arts theater. In the evenings, gather around the fire pit and bring out the movie projector and grill on either the propane or Weber.

Weekend Trip to Cosumnes River Ranch

We recently had the pleasure of staying at a beautiful campground nestled next to the Cosumnes River, and it was such a peaceful and refreshing experience. The site was spacious and serene, with the soothing sound of the river flowing by—it truly felt like nature's own sleeping pill. The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful, which made us feel welcome right from the start. Just a heads-up: the road from the entrance gate to the actual Hipcamp sites is about 20 minutes on an unpaved road, so plan accordingly. Some campsites are located right by the river, offering a magical experience, while others are up the hill. Even then, a few of the hilltop spots still offer beautiful views of the river. One important thing to note—there are no trash bins on-site, so be sure to pack out everything you bring in. Leave no trace! Great location with several secluded spots for enjoying the passing river and listening to the rapids. The campsites are far enough from each other and people were well-behaved. The only thing I could wish for is for the bathroom doors to close properly. Wild turkeys roam the land, providing a photo op!

Absolutely loved our stay at the Ranch! This campground was phenomenal — a beautiful, peaceful ranch setting with stunning scenery in every direction. The river was freezing but so refreshing, and it added to the charm of the whole experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our camping trip and felt completely immersed in nature. Can’t wait to come back again — highly recommend for anyone looking for a scenic and serene getaway!

Directions to get to the camp were super clear! Each camp site has a lot of space, its own table and bonfire pit. We stayed at campsite #6 which is right next to the river. We also purchased some eggs which made an amazing breakfast!

This little off-grid cabin is the nicest we've ever seen. It's secluded and private. There's many miles of lovely hikes with both wildlife and laid back cattle. The river is just in front of the cabin; easy access for cooling off. We'll be back for sure.

The site is on the river and comes with two large fire pits (we could not use due to fire danger) and a picnic table.

Great access to the river! Beautiful property! Amazing vision coming to life on their property! We were able to unplug, relax and enjoy! Definitely planning another trip in the near future. We stayed at campsite 2 and all the others looked to be just a great or better! Next time we are aiming for campsite 3.

Stayed at Rowan’s Camp #7. Amazing site right next to the river. It was raining and my small sedan got to the site through some muddy areas, but a vehicle with some lift is recommended. Tom was awesome and came to check on us, it is obvious that he cares about the guests and land very much. Going again at my next opportunity.

Thank you Steve and Michelle for sharing your beautiful cabin for us this weekend. We enjoyed staying in this lovely cabin. Tree house, swing, zip line , hammock, out door shower.. so excellent. You guys have more cookware and serving wares than I have at our house. Our two dogs ( golden retriever and black lab) did not finish exploring. We will send our family and friends to this place and definitely come back. Mike & Jessy

I loved the camp and will come back next time. It’s very beautiful, river is pretty cold. Very peaceful place to camp. The bathrooms are very clean and it’s not like other bathrooms in other campsites. I will definitely come next time!

The site is so beautiful with 3 or 4 "beaches" that I'm sure will be even better once the river is less full. There are 8 tent sites and 2 cabins spread out on the property. I stayed in cabin 1 and it was very spacious and very cozy. It doesnt feel crowded or too secluded. I had an incident with my car tire as I was leaving but Jolene's husband(sorry I don't remember your name)was incredibly helpful getting things fixed.Its such a soecial spot that I don't really want tell you how wonderful it is so that I can save it for me and my friends. 10/10 will be back many times.

This was our first Hipcamp experience and it was an absolute joy. I am completely jealous of their little slice of heaven. The cabin was roomy and comfortable. There was a table, chairs, and an umbrella, along with a fire pit. There was a bathroom right next to the cabin for convenience. Their family was welcoming and the boys and farm dog were adorable. Even with the family living on the property we always felt that we had our privacy. The grounds were beautiful with a creek running in the back. They have multiple options for tent camping backed up to the creek as well cabin lodging options. We had a lovely experience and will definitely be back.

This ranch with the river coursing through it is such a beautiful property. My friends and i loved exploring the area, hiking, and seeing all the baby cows. We met Tom the ranch manager who was such a kind man, and he taught us how to gold pan! There is a lot of love and care put into this land and you can feel it when you visit. We had no service at this site at all, so other hipcampers should plan that accordingly but honestly it added to the off grid experience and we felt very safe

The tent sites by the river were all great, easy to get to and beautiful. Noleen was super friendly and answered every question I had basically immediately, and the fresh eggs they have are great. Highly recommend, and I plan to come back when it’s a little warmer to try swimming in the river.

My family had a wonderful stay here and absolutely fell in love with the location. The river and camping area were beautiful, and we were impressed with how clean the porta-potty was. Unfortunately, I forgot to catch the name of the person who welcomed us, but he was incredibly friendly and helpful. Rachael, our contact person, was very responsive to all of our questions. We will definitely be coming back with both family and friends!

This land was home to the Miwok, then European and Chinese miners, then a cattle rancher. It was also home to a former nun who quit the dominican order to purchase this land for inner city kids to have a chance to ride, swim, hike and fish. We moved here in 2017 and purchased this land with the main goal to raise our large family here, but we have found that good things must be shared! There is NOTHING like being in the wilderness of this area for a good re-centering of the soul! We have found it to be a true blessing for our family, and we hope you can experience this blessing as we share this space with you. We feel certain you will not be disappointed with this beautiful river canyon. Our property is situated right on the middle fork cosumnes river. We have 2 sleeping cabins and several tent sites (can be rented separately). The cabins offer a rustic/minimalist type vibe - bring your own bedding/pillows to sleep on the comfy futon. A table and chairs are provided for the cabins. Tent sites have a wood table (bring your camp chairs) and a fire pit when the season is open for burning. The swimming is awesome and the stars at night will put you into a state of awe! Many family owned wineries in the area, most of them offering free tasting. It’s a short drive to Tahoe and the Marshall gold discovery site as well as the historic hangtown Placerville. The recent Caldor Fire was VERY close to our property and a back burn was initiated nearby the cabins. It is still as beautiful as ever but please know there are lots of slash piles. Falling trees and burned up stump holes are also a risk and it is presumed campers will be cautious and use at their own risk. Please don't hesitate to shoot us a message if you have any questions!

River access: If you’d like to visit the river to hang out, swim, or fish you can follow the dirt road next to the tent down to the river (3-minute walk). The riverfront has lounge chairs, a picnic table, and kayak's. The riverbank has small pebbles and rocks so water shoes are highly suggested for comfort when going into the water (recommended but not needed). Come and enjoy the views of the river, forest, and wildlife! This is a private tent site with one other listing on the property which is located at the house. You may rarely see other guests during your stay. Check out is at 12pm. If you or anyone in your party stays past 12:30pm you will be charged for an extra night for your full party. For guests that come for the day but do not stay the night there is a $25 fee per guest(s). If your vehicle gets stuck on the property and you need a tow we may be able to accommodate for a $350 tow fee per vehicle.
