There are many things to love. The view on the Perch is spectacular, wide open yet secret and intimate. The restaurant/bar down the hill has some fun music and is a good place to hang out. The location is just minutes away from Julian so we can hop into town when we want. We love it, our dogs love it. We will come back when we need to escape just for a couple of nights.

Apple Blossom Farms is a hidden gem—peaceful, beautiful, and perfectly located. Lexie is an incredible host, and her family is so warm and welcoming. I always feel safe, cozy, and completely at ease here. The sit is surrounded by orange groves, blooming flowers, and towering eucalyptus trees. The smell of all of the orange blossoms is incredible! At night, you're serenaded by hooting owls and distant coyote howls—it’s pure magic. There are occasional car / helicopter noises in the distance but it didn't bother me at all. I slept like a baby. You get the feeling of being immersed in nature, while still being just a 20–30 minute drive from the conveniences of the city. I stayed at the campsite where I could cook, unwind, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings, then drove into Oceanside daily to surf and check out the local cafes. There are lots of nearby farm stands and farmers markets to pop into and get local produce as well. It’s the perfect spot for nature and beach lovers who want a quiet escape without feeling too off-the-grid. I absolutely loved my stay and can’t recommend it enough.

Vicki's property was a dream. The land itself was very well-kept and spacious. You weren't too close to other campers and when I did run into other campers, they were very respectful and courteous. The noise policy was abided by all. I felt like it was just me and the trees (and my dog). Who was also allowed off leash!! Percy enjoyed it very much.

This is a hidden gem in Lake Elsinore! It has a lot to offer to everyone! Fishing jumping out of the water Birds of all kinds flying and swimming around Sounds of frogs and other small animals. During the day you can enjoy activities in and on the water Maybe some fishing by pier or on a boat if you have one. And watching boats and jet ski passing by. The sunsets over the mountains you are facing At night you can see some stars Across the lake you can see city lights The only negative I can say about this place is close to a main road so remember to bring your headphone this way you can mute out the sound when you are enjoying the view and sleeping. Ed the host, is the best, fast response and gives detail instructions how everything works and provides. No wonder this place is always booked. You won’t be disappointed We will be back again for sure!

This is an amazing place! There are many short trails to scenic spots to picnic or watch the views. There are hot showers, clean toilets and some shady areas to camp. But the Oak Grove where we stayed didn’t have picnic tables. We camped in spring so there was fog and cooler temps. The goats are fun and friendly. The people were helpful and we enjoyed our stay.

The place is very well kept and we enjoyed being away the peace of being away from the city for a bit. We loved the view at the top of the short hike and how clean everything was. This was a first time camping at the Hideout but definitely won’t be the last.

We had originally booked a campground down in the valley and it was so loud and crowded. We were stressed out. So I quickly looked up a better option on Hipcamp and Vicki responded to my message instantly! That was such a blessing! I was able to book Right then and go up the mountain to paradise. My son said it was like moving from a favela to Beverly Hills. LOL Everything was great about our stay. Awesome customer service. Peaceful environment. Big shade trees. State park just 2 miles away with great hiking trails. I will 100% stay here again.

Thits place was fantastic! If you can set up horseback riding with them - we didn't because we have a five year old but we saw a group and it looked so fun. The horses are nearby and it was so wonderful to see them during our short visit. We also got to see the goats. And there were three gentle dogs that would periodically come and check in on us. They were so sweet. The place was great. Communication was easy and fast. Directions were accurate.

Really a beautiful site and definitely family friendly. Very clean toilets, running water all over, perfect fire pits and places to put your tent underneath big oak trees. My kids love seeing the baby goats, sheep, and alpaca hanging out! Highly recommend for all!

Weekend Trip to Splitrock Farm and Retreat

We had a great time. We stayed in the Oaks Communal area. Everyone was friendly and we ended up having a campfire with several other campers. The camp has goats and a Llama, a few camp dogs that protect them. These animals are just loose and mostly stay away from us but did let us pet them. It was very quiet and peaceful. Several other camper told us they went hiking on the property and it was enjoyable. I would stay here again.

Beautiful shady sites. Flush toilets. LOVED seeing the animals and enjoyed the fire pits. The only thing that put a damper on the vibe was a fellow camper who didn’t have his dog on leash, it went after a baby goat and if I hadn’t grabbed the baby it would have been killed. The guy was a real jerk about it. I don’t know why people can’t follow the rules. It wasn’t the campgrounds fault and I would most definitely stay here again 😎

Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation. Splitrock Farm Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 200 foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Overview

You find an outdoor paradise hidden in the rolling foothills of North County—literally. Escondido (meaning "hidden" in Spanish) is a historic city 30 miles north of San Diego, California. Get ready to explore three lakes, 20 miles of hiking trails at Daley Ranch, and dozens of nearby beaches.

With its historic farmsteads and vast open spaces, camping near Escondido is never an issue. The area hosts a trove of RV parks, many with extra comforts such as pet-friendly areas, free WiFi, hot tubs, and swimming pools.

If you'd rather sleep under the stars, discover Dixon Lake, a charming reservoir in the rocky foothills. The lake-view campground offers RV and tent camping. When the sun rises, rent a boat to enjoy some fishing (no state license needed) or hike the easy shore trail. You might want to leave your bathing suit at home—swimming here is a no-go.

Drive due west from Escondido, and you hit the Pacific Ocean. Beautiful California state beaches line the coast, the perfect place for camping, surfing, or just soaking in that SoCal sun.

A 30-mile drive east brings you to Cleveland National Forest, a sprawling mountain wilderness. Set up camp in the backcountry, or hike a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail. Nearby Palomar Mountain State Park is a local treasure. At a 5,000-foot elevation, this park draws visitors with its fishing pond, hiking trails, and pleasantly cool evenings.

If you don't want to venture too far, there are plenty of things to do right in Escondido. Visit the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, meander through the historic downtown, or go wine tasting at a local winery. Kit Carson Park is a family favorite in southern Escondido. The 285-acre space features hiking trails, ponds, picnic tables, and a disc golf course.

The area's Mediterranean climate makes for great camping weather year round. For summer travel, don't forget to bring a reusable water bottle—you don't want to get parched on the trails.
