About this space
A visually exciting indoor-outdoor experience! The cavernous studio has 12-foot ceilings that open up on two sides to spacious patios with fountains. Queen-sized bed with Tempurpedic mattress, plus a high-quality sofa-bed. Super-sized kitchen, wi-fi, television, phone, washer and dryer, heating and air conditioning, and off-street parking. Lushly landscaped. 10 minutes to beach, 10 minutes to the city. Not suitable for parties, visitors, or pets. Smoking outside only.
The space
A truly one-of-a kind, insanely colorful space. Artful details and architectural antiques abound. Kitchen has a big pink fridge, green gas range, chartruse coffee-maker, electric tea kettle, toaster, blender, pots, pans, and other basic cooking implements. Bath has shower and private toilet-room. Two closets, dedicated phone line, wifi, and cable television. Immerse yourself inside a hand-painted art-piece created by a life-long visual artist...(that be me).
Guest access
Guests have exclusive use of the studio, patios, and driveway. The washer and dryer area outside is shared.

FILMING AND PHOTOSHOOTS ARE NOT A PART OF A "PACKAGE-DEAL" WHEN A GUEST BOOKS THE STUDIO. PHOTO SHOOTS MAY BE ARRANGED WITH THE OWNER OUTSIDE OF AIRBNB.

Urban Glamping at La Boheme!

This historical 1904 Craftsman home, known as The Liddell "La Boheme" Home, is nestled on 1/2 an acre of land smack in the middle of Los Angeles' hippest, historical gem: Highland Park.

When on the property, surrounded by fruit trees and rolling hills
-- you can't believe you are in a city, let alone Los Angeles! I was introduced to the delights of Glamping at El Capitan in Santa Barbara which was amazing and I wanted to stay there forever!! -- BUT with a busy city life of raising kids and building my own small food business -- I wanted to jump from
Glamp-life to
City-life (and back again)
with more ease and share it with others.

In my opinion, the beauty of So-Cal living is that you can literally spend the morning surfing in Malibu and that same evening find yourself
skiing in Big Bear! (After 25 years of living here -- that reality still amazes me)

To mirror this unique juxtaposition - at La Boheme, you will find a tranquil Safari Tent Glamping experience - with hiking/biking trails and all sorts of outdoor activities anywhere from a 5 minute walk to 30 minutes away by car---- but you can also hop on the Gold Line train (which is a 1 minute walk out the back door) and in choosing one direction, you are a couple of

stops from Chinatown or Downtown LA's rich cultural experiences & exciting nightlife. If you decide to explore
in the other direction, Metro's Gold Line (in 1 stop) will take you
to the heart of Highland Park's bustling scene -
 offering a smorgasbord of eateries, coffee-shops,

speakeasies, boutiques, yoga studios
and art galleries - including LA's oldest bowling alley: Highland Park Bowl.
Take the train further and you're in the heart of glorious Pasadena
(home to The Rose Bowl and exceptional Norton Simon Museum)-- or continue out to beautiful Sierra Madre -- where there is
hiking and exploring galore! At La Boheme you
can

take-out, dine out, stay-in and book a personal masseuse (that will change your world!) You can find places to
hike, bike, play tennis, come back and shower (with hot water) - enjoy some bubbly with your honey on the deck -- take the train
downtown to catch a concert at the Staples center -- Uber back - light the chiminea -- roast a s'more or two and crawl into your super comfy REAL bed in your REAL Safari Tent!

Remember
-- this is URBAN Glamping -- a friendly reminder that there can be normal city noises throughout your stay -- like a Fire Engine answering a call - or the train running behind the property -- or a kid crying in the apartment next door. It happens. Life happens. Of the several people who have already enjoyed the Glamping experience of La Boheme -- normal city noise/life
hasn't dampened the experience at all-- only made it more intriguing! There is both a fan for air circulation and/or "white noise" as well as a heater, if you should need either of them. Plenty of extra blankets are available as well as a cot if you are a booking for 3 guests. La Boheme also is a venue for weddings and other events -- so we love hosting and want to do whatever we can to make your stay the best it can be for you! Back deck with privacy screen and succulents. Guests enjoy playing cards, laughing and listening to music. As the sun sets-- twinkle light come on, candles get lit and it's time for cocktail hour!

Tentsite Over Topanga

     Welcome!  Our 'Tentsite Over Topanga' is a lovely private campsite high above the magical Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga Canyon. You will be treated to a sweeping view of the verdant Topanga landscape.  

     Our host, (Peter Alsop) will meet you in the parking lot of the world-renowned Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum, show you where the bathrooms are, and together hike up 300 steps to the camp site. (Campers must be fit enough to make this climb!)

     Under the support posts of our former tipi, there is a 20 foot circle where 2 or 3 tents can be set up.  We have a picnic table there for your convenience.  Of course no fires of any kind are permitted, (including 'no smoking' please!).  You may want to bring pre-made or delicatessen food and drinks, and come prepared for very warm days and cool nights.

      It's a very short path from the Tentsite up to the trail's end at the 'big rock overlook', and that's where the trail ends!  There are many other wonderful hiking trails throughout Topanga in the nearby Santa Monica Mountains State Parks, ... and the Pacific Ocean beaches are only a :10 minute drive to the South.

     Many campers come specifically to see one of the fantastic shows at the Theatricum Botanicum, and then head back up the hill behind our outdoor theater and spend the night with family, friends or a special loved one sleeping under the stars over Topanga.  This 2024 season we are presenting 5 plays:  "Wendy's Peter Pan", Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "A Winter's Tale", Moliere's "Tartuffe" and a new play by Paola Aguilar, "The Hispanic/Latino/Latina/Latinx/Latine Vote".  You can look up "Will Geer's Theatricum Botanicum" on you browser and they will have ticket information and dates.

    We also have a small bakery on the grounds, where one can find excellent baked goods and coffee for sale on most Sunday mornings.   

    Families with young children love seeing the  lizards, butterflies, woodpeckers and other small wildlife they spotted around the site. 

    Because a theater operates on the premises , no pets are allowed, and as for your trash, ... we ask that if you 'pack it in, ... please pack it out too!'

   We seem to have good telephone reception for almost all carriers, but we do not have wireless access.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:

There really is only one small public transportation vehicle available.  It's called "the Beach Bus" and it goes from San Fernando Valley, through Topanga to the beach and back again several times a day.  Not really sure of their schedule, but you search for it and  find out if you are interested.  Most people have their own vehicles.

MEETING UP?

    Peter will contact you and make plans to meet with you at the Theatricum and walk you up to the Tipi in the afternoon, (before showtime if you have reserved your tickets.  You can come back down and visit to one of Topanga's many local restaurants for lunch or dinner, or just stay at the Tipi and chill.

HIKING

    Our 'Tentsite Over Topanga' has been a pristine area for a very long time.  If you'ld like to hike in Topanga, the Topanga State Park is only a couple of miles away.  Leave the theater going south, headed toward the ocean.  After about a mile and a half, you will see Entrada Road on your left, which will take you along the edge of the park.  There is the Dead Horse Parking lot almost as soon as you turn onto Entrada, and a main entrance at the top of Entrada.  Dogs are not allowed in the park.  And you must be careful about wild life.

Cross Bull Ranch was Originally A Chumash Indian Village.

In 1926 "A Farmer" Named McDougal Came to CA from Santa Fe, NM in Search of A Better Life for He & His Family. Originally 40 Acres The Farm Provided ALL Produce, Dairy, Poultry & Beef to The Topanga Community via The "General Store" Until The End of WW2 IN 1945 when The American Public were Sold Post Military Chemicals as pesticides & fertilizers. It was Then That "Corporations" began Buying Up Fertile Farm

Land, Clear Cutting, Mono-Cropping. Creating Corporate "Grocery Store" Chains DESTROYING "The Family Farm."  My Son's Father & I Rescued This Land in 1998.  It was Derelict.  We were Handed A 1' HIGH FILE FULL OF Building Department "Violations"  The Oaks were ALL Dying from Lack Of Fresh Air/Oxygen & Sunshine. We Removed (8) 5 TON DUMPSTERS/40 TONS OF GARBAGE INCLUDING:  Cars, Car Parts/Tires, Toilets, Jacuzzi Tubs, Dishware, Newspapers, Utensils++.  We Picked Up EVERY Chard of Glass from Broken Beer Bottles, EVERY Bottle Cap, EVERY Cigarette Butt.  Which ARE NOT BIODEGRADABLE.  It was A "Travesty." And...  "A Labor Of Love."

 We IMMEDIATELY "Invested" $25,000.00 Clearing & Cleaning, "Healing"

The Oaks.  With Ropes NOT Spikes.  We Bought A Brush Cutter & Cut Down Weeds TALLER THAN ME.  At 1st you Couldn't EVEN See The Topography Of The Land.

We Renovated an Existing Trailer Adjacent to The Farm House. Glamping Hollywood Hills design aesthetic draws inspiration from my own personal travels through Mexico with a Hollywood vintage art deco flare! Being well traveled myself, this space was built with the upmost care for guest comfort in mind! Plush bedding (2 full size real mattresses that can comfortably sleep up to 4 people) and towels, full private & luxurious bathroom, fridge, microwave, dishware, heating and cooling, shag carpet, Wi-Fi, electricity to charge your devices, & ample food delivery is available in the area. A truly magical & memorable experience right in the heart of Hollywood! To get to the Glamp, please bear in mind there are quite a lot of stairs to get up the hill so please pack light, but once you arrive, the view is completely worth it! Your own private oasis tucked on top of a private residence with keyed lock gates, so it is completely safe & secure for your belongings if you choose to go out on the town during your stay!Glamping Hollywood Hills is located in a quiet neighborhood in the hills so while the goal is for guests to enjoy themselves and have the best experience possible, I do ask that you please be respectful of the neighbors and keep the noise down. If you're looking for a more turned up experience, there are loads of bars and clubs just a short walk away on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Also, because this is located in the Hills, it is a HIGH FIRE ZONE so no grilling (since we are so centrally located, there are numerous food delivery services that deliver all hours of the day though!) or fires are allowed. And for smokers, please dispose of butts in the designated ash trays. PARKING: There is limited free street parking, or you can park for free at the Hollywood Heritage Museum, just a 2 minute walk from the house if there are no events at the Hollywood Bowl. And if you can’t find a free street spot, I can get you a parking permit for $4 per day. Please let me know if you require that and I can get the passes for you! I take a lot of pride in my space and keeping it clean, and absolutely love hosting guests, so I just ask that you have the same respect back for my space and leave it like it was when you arrived. Please remove your shoes inside the tent in efforts of keeping the rugs clean. :)
