Skoolie in the Forest

This was originally a Girl Scout camp called Singing Pines back in the 30’s. You’ll see as you roam around some of the original buildings and structures. It hasn’t been in operation as a Girl Scout camp for over 20 years. The neighbor camp bought the lease but haven’t had the funds to revive it yet. DIRECTIONS: Take Exit for Angeles Crest Hwy (Hwy 2) from the 210 Go North, up the mountain for 29 miles Turn left on Sulpher Springs Rd Go about a mile and you will see a Singing Pines sign up on a hill on the right sided. There is a white gate which is usually open but if it's closed go ahead and open it. Go down that driveway about a mile and turn left at the fork. Follow that road down and around the lake staying to the right. Once you passed the lake there will be a little uphill and the location is on the left. Learn more about this land: The Skoolie is a converted short bus with two love seats that convert to an RV queen bed, sink, stove top, dinette, and over head lights. Outside is a private meadow with a short walk to a small lake. You can take out the provided sit on top kayak or bring your fishing gear. Outside the Skoolie is a picnic table, fire pit (firewood included) and a hammock. Up the hill, a very short walk is the private campground toilet facility. This is not shared with anyone else. No cell phone reception no linens bring a sleeping bag or warm blankets. You can charge your phone in the Skoolie for a sunrise alarm or just to take pictures.

Our cabin 'number 63' was built in 1928 and all the cabins here in the cabin were sold as hunting cabins or used for vacationing. Live Oak Canyon Road, and Silverado Canyon Road are some of the nicest driving areas in Southern California. Our little prefab studio is located in a quiet, safe, tucked away rural neighborhood... at the foot of beautiful Saddleback Mountain. Chickens and cats free range among the oak trees and you will often hear the sounds of horses meandering down the road.Our canyon has a real country feel to it and yet you are only minutes away from the city. We are situated in a hub of hiking and biking trails and, if desired, we are only 30 minutes from the beach. In the evening you can often hear the bleating of sheep on the nearby hills and coyotes yipping in the night.

(After 25 years of living here -- that reality still amazes me) To mirror this unique juxtaposition - at La Boheme, you will find a tranquil Safari Tent Glamping experience - with hiking/biking trails and all sorts of outdoor activities anywhere from a 5 minute walk to 30 minutes away by car---- but you can also hop on the Gold Line train (which is a 1 minute walk out the back door) and in choosing one direction, you are a couple of stops from Chinatown or Downtown LA's rich cultural experiences & exciting nightlife. 20 acres of beautiful land. 360 views of mountains and ocean from every point on the property. There are many flat areas and nooks for camping found throughout the property, as well as a yurt, a double-decker bus, and an airstream. You enter through a iron gate and first come onto a big central flat pad with ocean views overlooking Saddle Peak and the San Gabriels. There are two 40 foot shipping containers on the flat pad, this is your spot, looking out towards the ocean. There is wooden furniture outside so you can lounge and enjoy the views. If you continue down the drive to the right of the central flat pad, you come down to a point that looks straight towards Saddle Peak. On the way to the point you will find a double-decker Crown bus and an Airstream that can accommodate campers. At the end of the point there is a 20ft diameter traditional Mongolian yurt and wraparound deck. If you go back up to the central flat pad and continue on down the drive to the left, you will find more beautiful and secluded spots down by the well house. There are a few meadows to explore as well as the ever present view of the ocean. There is plenty of wildlife around the property including deer, bobcats, hawks, owls, ravens, foxes, rabbits, and much more... On this vast property there are regular camping and RV spots as well as a yurt, a double-decker bus, and an airstream for campers.

While we work very hard to keep our places pristine and spotless - if anyone in your group will faint if they see a bug or lizard or little frog inside - then this probably isn't the place for you. Please be very careful booking cottages for someone else - like your parents just arriving from another continent - they might prefer something more conventional. Some folks describe our places as a luxurious form of camping. We make our cottages very comfortable - they have all the basics - electricity - wifi - most have kitchens, bath or shower and comfy clean beds. But they are not like a hotel with perfect walls and a sterile atmosphere. Please look at all the pictures and read all the reviews. We can't offer refunds just because we don't meet the standards of a normal hotel. The wide open empty lot looks out at the beautiful mountains. 20 acres of beautiful land. 360 views of mountains and ocean from every point on the property. There are many flat areas and nooks for camping found throughout the property, as well as a yurt, a double-decker bus, and an airstream. You enter through a iron gate and first come onto a big central flat pad with ocean views overlooking Saddle Peak and the San Gabriels. There are two 40 foot shipping containers on the flat pad, this is your spot, looking out towards the ocean. There is wooden furniture outside so you can lounge and enjoy the views. If you continue down the drive to the right of the central flat pad, you come down to a point that looks straight towards Saddle Peak. On the way to the point you will find a double-decker Crown bus and an Airstream that can accommodate campers. At the end of the point there is a 20ft diameter traditional Mongolian yurt and wraparound deck. If you go back up to the central flat pad and continue on down the drive to the left, you will find more beautiful and secluded spots down by the well house. There are a few meadows to explore as well as the ever present view of the ocean. There is plenty of wildlife around the property including deer, bobcats, hawks, owls, ravens, foxes, rabbits, and much more... On this vast property there are regular camping and RV spots as well as a yurt, a double-decker bus, and an airstream for campers.

We are really in NATURE here - these are older cottages hand-built by artists in the forest. They are very rustic! It's like living in a mountain village, with other cottages nearby. While we work very hard to keep our places pristine and spotless - if anyone in your group will faint if they see a bug or lizard or little frog inside - then this probably isn't the place for you. Please be very careful booking cottages for someone else - like your parents just arriving from another continent - they might prefer something more conventional. Some folks describe our places as a luxurious form of camping. We make our cottages very comfortable - they have all the basics - electricity - wifi - most have kitchens, bath or shower and comfy clean beds. But they are not like a hotel with perfect walls and a sterile atmosphere. Please look at all the pictures and read all the reviews. We can't offer refunds just because we don't meet the standards of a normal hotel. They purchased the ranch 3 years ago and love being outside of the city in the mountains. Star gazing is a must when staying there! The camp site is NEXT DOOR to Prospector Ranch which is our 1800's style ranch tucked away in the Santa Monica mountains, close to beaches, vineyards, amazing hiking, biking to the beach and the city! The wide open empty lot looks out at the beautiful mountains. Enjoy stunning sun sets and Picnic under the grand Oak Trees at the ranch or maybe come by the saloon next door for a cold beverage if we are around. :-). We are happy to point you in the direction for what ever you want to do. There are so many things to do in Thousand Oaks!
