Bright Star Campground

33 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents40 acres · Cortez, CO
We have COMPLIMENTARY Wifi, Drinking Water, Ice, Hot Showers, Bathrooms, Shade, and an equipped Camper's Kitchen for our guests to enjoy from April 15 - Oct 15! There are TIPIS, CAMPING CABINS, TENT and BOONDOCK SITES. WE ALSO HAVE A NAVAJO HOGAN (wood yurt) OPEN-YEAR ROUND. All of our sites are not listed here. We can also accommodate groups and small events but not public events. We have a private covered group site as well. Bright Star Campground: Once used as a church camp, it is now a Campground for all to enjoy! We are a perfectly located vacation campground on 40 acres with amenities and wide-open spaces. Amenities include hot showers, an equipped community kitchen, a pavilion with hammocks, tables, ping pong, etc. Enjoy complimentary coffee, eggs, filtered drinking water and more. Bright Star Campground is located in the Great Sage Plain in the shadow of Mesa Verde National Park with panoramic mountain/mesa views of the Four Corners region, all only 5 miles southeast of Cortez. We are in an arid desert climate. Water is scarce, stored in cisterns for use in camp. Because of this we ask that you be conservative with water use in camp. We are a cannabis-friendly destination but ask that Cannabis use stay at your campsite, cabin or tipi. There are many things to do/see nearby: Mesa Verde National Park, Canyons of the Ancients, Hovenweep National Monument and Phil's World Mountain Biking. Raft down the Dolores river, maybe rent a SUP or kayak and chill on a quiet reservoir. There are museums and cultural centers in the area as well. Durango is 45 min, Telluride is 1.5 hrs away, and Moab is about 2.5 hours away-including Arches and Canyonlands National parks. The best/nearest airport is in Durango. Cortez has Denver Air (Key Lime Air) with connections to Denver and Phoenix. The nearest large international airport is in Salt Lake City or Albuquerque.

Pinion Farm Homestead

8 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents21 acres · Nucla, CO
Pinion Farm Homestead located in the town of Nucla, CO is a 40-acre new farm/orchard operation that currently includes pigs, rotational grazing cows and sometimes horses, organically-grown vegetable garden, hay pastures and practices regenerative agriculture within the heirloom apple orchards onsite. Originally home to the Uncompahgre Ute Native Americans, Nucla was founded by a socialist group from Denver, the Colorado Cooperative Company. Some of the members built (some sent money) a 17-mile ditch to carry water from the San Miguel River to the mesa top. Pinion Farm Homestead was homesteaded by the Lundahl family and were founding members of the cooperative. The original farm included an old farmhouse, a chicken coop, and a winter storage building that are all still standing. The Lundahl family raised pigs, chickens and cows, cultivated apple, peach, mulberry, apricot and plum trees, and grew hay, corn, oats, barley and vegetables. John Lundahl owned the creamery for a short time as well.

Remote Mountain Retreats

4 sites · Lodging42 acres · Collbran, CO
At Collbran Vacation Rentals, we believe your stay should be part of your experience. That's why our vacation rentals are unique yet homey, convenient yet mostly off-grid, accessible yet still remote. The Silo is a guest room built in a grain bin beside our house, the Stagecoach Cabin is an old western cabin at the southern corner of our property, and Mossy Oaks Camp is a walk-in outfitter's tent tucked in the oak brush on the backside of our property. None of the properties have "modern conveniences," but they do have kitchen and outdoor bathroom facilities, heat, solar power (electricity at the Silo), and plenty of fresh water in jugs. Our 42 acre property is about 7 miles south of Collbran, Colorado up a steep gravel road at the foot of Grand Mesa. The remote property, covered mostly by buck brush and oak brush, is quiet and has stunning views of the Plateau Valley. You might enjoy hiking the property, petting our animals (dogs, cats, and horses), or viewing the wild animals (elk, deer, and buffalo) at the game ranch below. Our vacation rentals are scattered throughout the property, so you'll have plenty of space during your stay. The Plateau Valley area has many recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. The Grand Mesa, which is 15 minutes away on a bumpy gravel road, offers a variety of recreation activities including four-wheeling and snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and hiking. Powderhorn Ski Resort, 45 minutes away, boasts great skiing or mountain biking, and Vega State Park, also 45 minutes away, features snowmobiling, fishing, waterskiing, and boating. The town of Collbran is a quaint little town with several parks, a rodeo grounds, and one bar/restaurant, gas station, and grocery store. Please note, Collbran shuts down by 8 pm; if you arrive late, be sure to bring necessary supplies and food. We live on the property, but we work full time. If you need help, we can come over, but we won't disturb you during your stay. You can reach us by phone, text, or email at any time. During the summer, you can access all of the properties in a 2-wheel drive car, but the roads can get bumpy or muddy quickly (check out the road video by scanning the QR code in the photos). We recommend driving a vehicle with 4-wheel drive in late fall to early spring as the weather can be unpredictable. If you aren't sure, please ask us about the current conditions of the road.
