Weekend Trip to Boulder Chicken Ranch

We had a great time at the Journey tent and would come back! It was our first camping experience with a baby but it was still quite comfortable. The stove inside the tent made all the difference, and the bed was pretty comfortable. There were others camping around but although they were close, we couldn't hear them. We opted for coffee in the morning and picked eggs from the coop. There was no shade around, maybe on a different season the trees around do provide some, but not in April. Patrick was super kind and quick to reply. If you want to go on a trail you need to drive there. There are little farms around and it’s close to anything you would need so that’s convenient! Overall it was a pretty cool experience!

Patrick was a wonderful host. When we arrived, one other camper was there, but since there wasn't an RV reservation the first night, we were able to move over to the RV site for more privacy. The bathroom was spotless and lit in the evening. The solar lights he had were beautiful at night. The next day, I let him know we were going to be out for the day and wanted to check if there were any RVs coming.l so we weren't in the way. He said there was one and offered to move our stuff for us so we could head out earlier. He had been so accommodating and we moved our stuff over to the tent site location. We got the half dozen of eggs which were amazing- made for great breakfast burritos. It was so nice to see the chickens and to meet his dog. The location was close to Boulder so we were able to get some quick dinner and only about an hour from Rocky mountain national park. He was accommodating, quick to respond to messages, and a great host. We did a walk around the area to leave it better than we found it and we'd absolutely stay again!

Staying at Blue Bear was absolutely amazing! The views are breathtaking and the cabin is incredibly cozy! Cesar’s directions were very helpful - echoing that you should get the directions prior to heading up the mountain as you’ll likely not have service. You should also bring your own water! We cannot recommend this place enough. The little wood burning oven was perfect for warming up the cabin and provided such a fun element! Did we already mention the views? 12/10!

Patrick’s property is just outside of Boulder but close enough so you can get to town for dinner or shopping in no time at all. We enjoyed how pretty and quiet it was. We appreciated the mowed grass walkways and the little lights at night. The honey pot was also a plus as our trailer was having battery trouble during our visit. The best part are the chickens and their farm fresh eggs! Patrick was a fantastic communicator and made us feel very welcome. Thank you!

Great location for peace and relaxation! The hot tub and sauna were rejuvenating, and the lodge itself was incredibly comfy. The vibe is very “Colorado” and homey. I highly recommend staying here whether you want to have outdoor adventure or just chill inside all day, and you should order the eggs!

In the mountains just off of I-70, is this cozy little bell tent hiding in the trees. You'll have furs and a toasty stove to sip your morning coffee by in the seclusion of your tent. There's also a large fire pit with seating to eat your dinner by perhaps, and maybe chat with other travelers who are staying on the property. The fire pit is between your tent and another, and for shared use with other guests. At nearly 9,000 ft elevation, we get some gusty winds and unpredictable weather, but the wood burning stove provides a very warm and toasty atmosphere inside, and a rain fly over the tent provides a bit more insulation for keeping heat in at night, and holds it down in the winds quite well. Nestled between two hills on either side, and just feet away from a creek that flows through the spring and early summer, it can feel very secluded, but you are actually just off the road and only about 10 minutes from the town of Idaho Springs. The surrounding aspens and pines are quite magical, just be sure to read our note in the tent about our property boundary. Nearby St Mary's Glacier is a very popular spot, and there are loads of hiking and biking trails nearby. As mentioned before, the tent is just off of the road so you will hear the occasional car driving by, otherwise it's very quiet. There is a composting toilet and a private "toilet tent" on site. No power, just good old fashioned wood burning stove and a plethora of battery powered candles and lanterns. You'll need 4/AWD from about October through April, as we're off of a dirt road. You're in the mountains folks, so bears and moose have been seen on occasion. Please pack out all food and garbage. Drinking water and firewood provided.

Don't hesitate while going up the driveway - if you stop on your way up, you may not get going again. We have a community fire ring with a big pile of free burn wood, though the big logs are getting few and far between, so having your own firewood is recommended. Bing an ax or saw. If it's windy, please skip the fire. We have well water to offer up by the house, but I wouldn’t drink it without purification… makes for a great outdoor shower. We have fresh eggs! The chickens free range during the day, so please keep an eye on your dogs… leash if necessary. Our gals won’t run away. Venmo code at the coop for your convenience. Stroll on over to the South or Middle for renowned fly fishing. For climbers, there are over 50 climbs in South Saint Vrain Canyon! Dark Skies: If you like to watch the stars and meteor showers, Bliss Canyon is blessed with dark skies with little light from the plains. Bring your telescopes and explore the Universe. Rocky Mountain National Park, one of the five Crown Jewels of the National Park Service, is nearby. The closest trailhead in RMNP is 10 miles, the next trailhead at Wild Basin entrance to the park is 13 miles, and the Beaver Meadows entrance (main entrance) is 36 miles. Rocky Mountain National Park has breathtaking drives, easy strolls with interpretive signs, and 360 miles of trails. (Advance reservation required for entry 9:00 am to 3:00 pm for main park, or 5:00 am to 6:00 pm for Bear Lake corridor.) Indian Peaks Wilderness also has several nearby access points and trailheads. Ask Dot for details. The charming town of Lyons is 20 minutes away with coffee shops, restaurants, bars, lots of great live music, and quaint shops. Also, Spirit Hound Distillery received the award for the #1, Best Whiskey in the World in 2022, hmmm, it might be worth a tasting! Due to our popularity reservations often fill up quickly. Welcome to Camp Wilder! We are an off-the-beaten-path camp offering peace and solitude. The cabin is very special to my family and me. It was passed down as a mining claim from my grandmother who founded it in the '60s. The vision for the land was simply perfect. A small 10 x 10 cabin with the whole mountain to explore and whoever they wished to bring with them. The town of Nederland is 10 minutes down the road where you can fish at Baker Reservoir. Lots of fun little stores in town to keep the family busy. Wildlife is everywhere up by the cabin/campsite, always remember don't leave food lying around with lots of great things to look for around the magical town of Nederland. The cabin sleeps up to 8 with the futon downstairs being very comfortable and 3" foam upstairs in the loft for more sleeping area. Bring your sleeping bags to stay cozy at night. There are lanterns inside to light up your night with a wood stove to keep you warm at night. The ground around it is sloped so you may have a hard time setting up any tents around the cabin. The grocery store is in Nederland where you can buy food, Coleman green propane bottles, gallon jugs of water and wood. There is a 3 burner Coleman, stove to cook on with limited pots & pans as well as silverware. Road disclaimer, the road to the cabin is one lane dirt road. The drive up to the cabin is pretty good but the turn onto the single dirt road to the cabin has a slight dip, if you have a low-clearance car it may bottom out when you are turning so be careful. No Trailers. They will not be able to turn around once there. Recommend vehicles with AWD. Go 3.4 miles up Caribou road. Turn right @ yellow stakes go .4 miles. Park on the left. Hike down to the cabin between yellow stakes. We are @ 10,000 feet and it is a slight hike to the cabin. Go 3.4 miles up Caribou road. Turn right @ yellow stakes go .4 miles When leaving please make sure both door locks are locked, put the key in the lock box and mix the code for the next camper.

As long as you are by your post, we don't care how you park, pull in, back in, pull through, we are easy going. Be aware this is a Rustic experience.
