Joanna’s sites are beautifully and thoughtfully laid out. The airstream was comfortable and fun to sleep in. Joanna was communicative and helpful. We saw turtles in the pond, a barred owl, lotsa birds and deer walked by too.

This was my first Hip Camp stay. The land was as advertised (great open and private property, friendly cows, and a great view). The weather turn out for the worse on our weekend but as seasoned campers we made the best of it. Very nice property, each site is very private. Be ready to walk your things to the site. Dom has wheelbarrows to help move things which is great. Great experience, the firewood is a nice big bundle. What a great site. Has to be my favorite camping site so far. Well kept and secluded without feeling to far from others. This morning as the sun came up, I've never heard so many varieties of birds singing before. I should've recorded it. I will be back in a few weeks.

Weekend Trip to Timberland Falls

We loved camping on Ethen & Karen's property Timberland Falls. We went up into the mountains expecting a winter storm and this didn't disappoint. We were wonderfully surrounded by the sounds of snow fall and the light breeze and the water falling under the frozen waterfall was a nice sight as well. This property is extremely beautiful, serene and peaceful. The cabin is a great addition and was necessary on Sunday night during the windiest portion of the storm, but was wonderfully comfortable. Thank you again, Ethen and Karen for the wonderful property and for your hospitality!

Weekend Trip to A Farm for All!

Host was accommodating and flexible, given the private site and unmarked. A brook runs thru the site making it tranquil if you can get a spot close. A quaint spot- will be back.

Christian was so friendly and helpful in showing us where to set up and even setting us up in a cozier spot since there was some super cold, windy weather! The farm is beautiful and waking up to walk around and say hi to the horses and ponies was so nice! We even explored the property for a bit before we left and it was beautiful! The stream was frozen and glorious and Christian kindly wished us safe travels and goodbye when we were on our way out! We hope to come back in the spring when we can do better exploring in the area! 10/10 would recommend Christian’s sweet farm!

1 night at Timberland Falls

Timberland Falls is a little slice of heaven in the winter. It is magical. The backdrop is breathtaking is very well. Kept the access to dry firewood makes it easy to create fires. The waterfall is stunning with snow and ice. And on top of that, Ian is super accommodating very quick to respond and easy to communicate with 10 out of 10.!

Stayed here twice so far and had an absolute blast both times - very quiet with good privacy. I would recommend to any group looking to get out and hike the skills or go skiing nearby.

Nice clean space. The site had fire pit, lean-to and far enough space to pitch in tent on ground. The host was very kind, and easy to communicate with and helped us with fire starter. There was fresh water to drink, and provided us with basic necessities. Definitely recommend.

Timberland Falls did not disappoint. I was hoping to find a place with a waterfall and from the pictures I was hopeful but the lnadscape is even better in person. We were pleasantly surprised by the snowy science and braved the cold temperature in a hot tent . We will definitely be back and hopefully check it out in the warmer months. Ethan and Karen were super responsive and incredibly accommodating. You have lots of privacy in this place. A little slice of heaven!

You may be perfectly content staying put, but if you seek small town offerings, Chatham (15 minutes away) offers restaurants, art galleries, a brewery, movie theatre, two bakeries, and some shops. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking, antiquing, and sightseeing opportunities. Enjoy the big view from the highest corner of the big field. This is a sweet little campsite set in a birch grove with a view to the Catskills, and lots of wildlife. Two minute walk from your car, and a five minute walk to a swimming pond and a composting toilet outhouse. Near Chatham, New York where there is a brewery, cheese shop, bakery, restaurants, and a movie theatre. We are half an hour from Hudson, and in the midst of plentiful Berkshire and Hudson Valley hiking, biking and sightseeing opportunities. Early check-in and late check-out are often fine; just ask. *Special note for winter campers: depending on both snowfall and what you are driving, the parking locations may change. If we can, we will be happy to either ferry you via our 4WD, or help you carry your stuff in. The winter is really fun and beautiful. It's really nice here and we're happy to share it. Catskills Forest Pondside Hideaway

With three private sites deep in the Catskills, this special land has a variety of mature trees, open meadows with ferns and dogwood stands, remnants of an old apple orchard, trails across old rock walls and mountain streams through gently sloping topography, and abundant birds, frogs, newts, and other wildlife. Plus one of the best swimming ponds in all of the Catskills! There are three sites: one tucked into a meadow in a forest clearing, another under a hemlock grove deeper in the woods, and a third reserved for Long Path thru-hikers who come down from the mountains for a break, which can also be overflow. All are off-grid and rustic but close enough to the house and parking area to have convenience, and far enough—and hidden out of view—to offer real privacy. (About a 4-minute walk from your shared toilet/supply/storage shed by driveway.) Tent area has cleared flat pads for two small tents. Location is far enough from things that you can walk a minute into the woods and feel lost to civilization, yet only two miles of paved road from downtown Windham and all that the cozy resort town has to offer. Makes a great basecamp for exploring the rest of the Northern Catskills, or a hideaway to stay and get lost in. Hike miles of trails and old logging roads in the Elm Ridge Wild Forest, starting literally steps from your campsite. Swim in the large spring-fed pond, or just watch the colorful koi swim. Sit around the fire and reflect on the day’s adventures. Or just take in the wide-open views of distant mountains and starry skies. Note: the only "Kitchen available" (Hipcamp's wording) is a grill over firepit. Also, toilet is a bucket-style dry composting toilet with urine diversion inside a protected shed. Camp site is a short hike along private trails from parking/shed area. Depending on weather/season, it's sometimes muddy.

There is some road noise from Sawkill road & the Thruway dependent on the spot you choose to set up. There is chickens, bees & goats & 2 guardian life stocks dogs that live with the goats. I also have a small Terrier & a farm cat. A lot of outdoor activity with bird watching, bunnies, deer & the groundhogs say good night. It’s rural yet only 10 minutes to Kingston uptown and about 20 minutes to Woodstock. About 1 hr from Hunter & Windham Mountain resorts and 45 minutes to Belleayre Ski. We also have a wood fired oven and offer pizza making classes as well as catered meals.

Camp COVID Site 19

Named during the pandemic, "Camp COVID Site 19" was born out of our desire to camp, as we weren't able to go camping anywhere! This camp is the back half of our property, located in the village of Tannersville. Camp is divided from our personal space by a fence. The camp is also completely fenced in once you close the driveway gates, allowing your pets to safely be off leash if you wish! A long stone driveway leads to camp, with a flat spot to park your skoolie, motorhome, or vehicle. There is a creek running along the entire back side of our property, outside of the fenced in area, which you can access by walking a few feet though the gates under the Camp COVID sign. We also have a bon fire pit in the center of camp, and fires are allowed as long as there is no burn ban in effect. Firewood is on site. We have 2 water hook ups and one 15 amp electric hook up on site, we just ask that you do not run an A/C unit as it will trip our main breaker. There is a dump station at North South Lake State Park and Campground only minutes away in Haines Falls. Instructions and rules are posted in the bath house which has an on demand hot water shower and a composting toilet. There is a garbage can for your convienece which is located in the shed which must be kept closed to avoid black bears visiting! Come and stay and say hi!

This land was the homestead of the very first non native settler of the area, John Wiley, in 1787. Before that, it was the land of the Mahican native Americans. They named it "valley of the butternut trees", or Wyomanock. The Wyomanock Creek is the backbone of this little valley. Beaver have dammed the creek at several points to create ponds and other wetland features that support a diversity of wildlife including otter, moose and a myriad of birds, from osprey to herons. This sanctuary is host to many uncommon native plants and plant communities. We would love to share it with you! You don't know what's going to come through your camp. The actual camp site itself is the ultimate in social distancing. As close to pure wilderness as it gets. No vehicles allowed at site. From an easily accessible parking space, it's a mildly uphill ten minute hike through magical meadows deep into a hidden mountain valley in the midst of 250,000 acres. Utter privacy. The only sounds being the wind, the birds, yourself, and Herdman Brook rushing along a few yards east of your site. Once again no vehicles are allowed at the campsite itself. At one time, yes, but we needed to disallow it because the property was being torn up, and the beauty of the site is that it's so pristine. This is not glamping. No cabin. No platform. Need tent, tarp, or hammock, and you will sleep under more stars than you can possibly imagine. Fire ring, cooking grate, water bucket This is true wilderness camping. You're off the grid at site - no cell service - but wifi available if necessary on front porch of main house aka base camp. 10 a.m. check in. 3 p.m. checkout. Please send ETA when possible. Campers ought to be aware that black bears live in these mountains., although you're not likely to see one unless it's running away from you. If you're really nervous bring bear spray, but you're not likely to need it. I literally chased one off our porch not a month ago. I would appreciate your purchasing human waste bags from me at base camp when you arrive. I'll have them here for $3.00/bag. Feel free to buy your own. You should also bring FIRE STARTER to make your life easier. We sell firewood as well - 7 logs/$10. As with the waste bags, we would appreciate buying the firewood directly from us. Wonderful hikes - one to a waterfall - trail head at end of Spruceton Rd. Hunter Brook, Devil's Notch, Fire Tower atop Hunter Mountain, Ridge of West Kill Mountain West Kill Brewery and Spruceton Inn Bed and Bar each half mile up the road. Civilized respites. 4 campers preferred. 6 possible. One more thing: DOGS. We have two: a 13 year old female whatever and a shepherd-husky mix, 4 years old, also female. They are quite friendly and docile, although the shepherd looks intimidating, and both roam the property at will 2-3 times/day. Please do NOT pick the fruits or veggies without asking as often things are not quite ripe yet. When things are ripe, we will try to put a bowl of fresh stuff out for you to choose from. Of course, it goes without saying, Please be considerate and clean up after yourselves. No smoking cigarettes or e-cigarette, vapes in the tent. If you need to bring a pet, they must be well-trained and not have an issue with cats or other dogs as we have 3 cats. Pets are NOT allowed to go to the bathroom on the lawn or in the gardens. No cats allowed. You will have cellular service! There are miles of private trails for hiking with an amazing private waterfall as one of your destinations! We are adjacent to Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Preserve (both a 20 minute drive to park entrance) which offer mountain biking, rock climbing, hiking, kayaking, rock scrambling, views of the Catskills and more! Just 20 minutes outside of the colorful and active town of New Paltz, NY with many options for dinning, shopping, and entertainment. Nature is calling! **History of The Awosting Club** In the mid 1950's John Atwater Bradley, then a graduate student, attended a conference in Cragsmoor, the site of a celebrated art colony not far from what is now the Awosting Reserve and The Awosting Club. The next morning at dawn, he went out for an exploratory hike and did not return until long after dark. Bradley hiked through evergreen and hardwood forests, along bubbling streams, roaring waterfalls and shimmering mountain lakes. He discovered an incredible wilderness like none he'd ever seen, populated by whitetail deer, black bear, fox, racoons, bobcat and coyote as well as a natural aviary of hawks, peregrine falcons, owls, eagles and pileated woodpeckers. That day he fell in love with the Shawangunk Ridge. The Bradley family still maintain the property, and after 50 years of sharing the property with educational organizations, schools, artists, writers, explorers, camps, family and friends, are excited to invite others to fall in love with the Shawangunk Ridge as John Bradley had over 70 years ago. Bradley's daughter, Camilla, and her family are keeping the Awosting traditions alive by sprucing up the camp buildings and platforms while maintaining the trails that have been used for decades for outdoor adventures: from sleeping to eating to playing to communing with nature in all her glory.
