Taste of Old Florida

12 sites · RVs, Tents10 acres · Palm City, FL
A small but unique piece of land that was given to a family in the 1920s by the Florida Railroad Company. It stayed in the family until we purchased it. It is unique because the surrounding area does not have much tree coverage. This is due to the ground underneath, which is a vein of grey marl. This is why the area is called the Allapattah (an Indian word for Alligator) Flats. We are hoping that our county stays the way it is so people will know what Old Florida really looks like. Minutes from I-95, but surrounded by the Allapattah Flats Wildlife Management Preserve. Located on Martin Hwy, which was recently designated as a Florida Scenic Hwy. Fifteen minutes to Stuart and thirty minutes to West Palm Beach, a world away from the hustle and bustle. We realize that people also love Florida for Disney and tropical paradises but if that is what you want than this may not be your kind of place.

We're also blessed by visitations from seasonal birds such as cardinals, kestrels, swallow-tail kites, orioles, buntings, and warblers. Bring your outdoor gear for biking, hiking, kayaking, fishing, or beach-going! From our location, you can explore the neighborhood on foot or bicycle, with sidewalks directly abutting the property. Canals in the area are open to fishing (just don't enter private property!). Embracing Nature's Classroom: A Journey into the Heart of Agroforestry In the heart of our bustling city lies a hidden gem—a five-acre agroforestry site seamlessly integrated with a wildlife refuge, offering a sanctuary for both humans and nature. This unique haven challenges traditional farming norms, embracing permaculture principles and providing a holistic education on sustainable living. The Agroforestry Oasis: This agroforestry site thrives as a harmonious blend of natural elements. The farm, rich with diverse flora, serves as a testament to the possibility of cultivating food in harmony with nature. With a natural pond reflecting the sky and a cypress forest providing shade, the site is a living example of how agricultural practices can coexist with the environment. Wildlife Refuge: Surrounded by a city environment, the wildlife refuge within the agroforestry site stands as a testament to the resilience of nature amidst urbanization. The refuge highlights the importance of preserving green spaces within cities for biodiversity and ecological balance. Participants learn not just about cultivation but also about the interconnectedness of ecosystems. These classes empower individuals to apply permaculture principles in their own lives, fostering a sense of responsibility towards the environment. Campfire Gatherings: At the heart of the agroforestry site lies a community space, where campfires flicker at individual camping sites and merge into a grand communal fire. This space fosters a sense of community, encouraging shared experiences and conversations under the open sky. It exemplifies the essence of coming together to appreciate and learn from nature. Nature's Unfiltered Beauty: Unlike manicured gardens, this facility proudly stands in its natural state. The untamed beauty of the landscape contributes to the existence of a diverse array of wildlife. It's time to appreciate nature and learn about how it works, not just as observers but as active participants in the dance of life. Are you ready to embark on this journey into the heart of agroforestry? Come see for yourself. Nature is waiting to share its secrets with you.

The room has an open concept with a main area where there is a super comfy Queen side bed plus a Twin size sofa bed for an extra guess or kid.PLEASE READ before choosing La Bougainvillea as your place to stay: We have 3 super friendly dogs in the premises and they will be super happy to see you and say hi to you, this is a 5 acre property and the dogs are usually running around the whole area and most likely you will encounter them more than once, treats are always welcome for them and they will love you for that. Remember this property is located in the country side of Palm City and even when we have a very good pest control, sometimes you can have an encounter with different critters and animals as coyotes, raccoons, snakes, chickens, hawks, lizards, armadillos, possums among other things. Our property runs on well water and even when we have an excellent 4 stages filtration system, there is sometimes an odor and/or color associated with this specially in raining season. We assure you the water is good and safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, and washing as per mentioned before it runs through a multistage filtration and softening system. We have within the property our own business which is an exclusive and private classic car restoration shop and sometimes noise and other vehicles can be heard or seen. It is also a nice opportunity to see the restoration process and sometimes the final cool looking restored vehicles.Due that we are in the countryside, our internet is Satellite, so it is not as fast as in the city but yes we do have WiFi and you can stream basically anything with a little bit of patience.

Jonathan Dickinson State Park offers 144 campsites with water, electricity, tables, and a grills between two campgrounds. The Pine Grove campground also offers sewer hookups. When to go

March to May offers spring blooms and cool nights, with daytime temperatures starting in the low 70s. Camping in the hot summer months is still popular for crowds who like swimming.
