Weekend Trip to 1912 Vintage Barn Experience

The setting was lovely! I was there in early April, and the grass was beautiful, and the trees were in bloom. The 1912 barn is rustic and fabulous! The hosts were super accommodating, and invited me to take shelter in the barn while I was camping there.

Weekend Trip to Millbrook Trail Rides

We had a great time “roughing it” with the horses. The spot was really nice, right next to the creek. We were able to build a campfire with the firewood on the ground. Then…the most magical thing happened. All the horses on the farm came and paid us a visit. It was awesome and beautiful to have them so near to us. Weekend Trip to Emerald Acres Farm

We absolutely loved this little place. They were so kind and accommodating for us. I got there later than expected and stayed one night, and I wasn’t sure where I needed to be, and they came out to guide me. It’s super easy to find the site but count on me to complicate anything. There dog was super friendly and they had 6 baby goats we fell in love with. We want to go back just to camp and spend time with all their animals. What a great little gem you have! Thanks for letting us stay on your land!

4 nights at Emerald Acres Farm

A hidden gem (Emerald to be exact 😆), in southern Illinois. We had THE BEST time at emerald acres! Goats, baby goats, petunia the pig, Llamas and did I mention baby goats? The property is absolutely stunning, great walking paths, breath taking sunrises and sunsets. It truly felt like home. Amenities were clean and well cared for. Shower was hot and great pressure. Highly recommend stopping here. Monica stopped by to introduce herself and is super sweet! Last but not least you’ll have your very own guard dog named Stella. She loves to come and chill with you by the campfire. She’s also a great host as she leads you through the trials.

Weekend Trip to Timberline Ridge

My family really enjoyed staying at this property. It was very well maintained and easy to navigate with our 34' motorhome. The pond was beautiful and we were able to use the provided kayak a few times during our stay. There was only one other rental site (the cabin), which was perfect for our RV-less friends to join us on the trip. It felt very private and quiet, which was great for letting the kids run loose. We enjoyed hiking the trails on the property and did a little fishing. The firewood was generously provided and was very welcome during the brisk spring weather. Communication was quick and helpful throughout the process. The hosts and site were perfect for what we were looking for this trip. Thank you!

Jennifer’s cabin is a perfect getaway. It has every amenity you could want! We got some surprise snow during our stay so the fireplace was perfect for our stay along with some games and movies. I can’t wait to come back in the spring and fall to get some use out of the hot tub, grill, and fire pit.

We got there as soon as it started getting dark and had to leave early the next morning, so we didn’t get to do any exploring. But it was a nice quiet and safe place for our family to stay.

We had an incredible stay at Sonny Hills-Cabin near Shawnee Forest! The cabin itself was very cozy, very comfortable, and very well equipped with everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. The location couldn’t have been better, surrounded by gorgeous nature with hiking and sightseeing opportunities on site and even more in the park just a short drive away. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome and had everything we needed. Their kindness and attention to detail truly made this trip extra special. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer and we’re already looking forward to returning as soon as we can. Highly recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat near Shawnee Forest! 🌲✨

Weekend Trip to Sonny Hills

My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our weekend getaway at Jennifer's cabin. The lovely water with a tree-covered hill to the east was beautiful each day. It was great to have wood provided for the fire pit, the kitchen had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable, and so were the couches. It was a great place to get away from our busy lives for a weekend. We visited Garden of the Gods and Dixon Spring this time but we hope to come back to explore their wooded property. And the see the doggies :) I appreciated getting myself away from the internet, although we did have good enough cell signal to be able to access the web when needed. I enjoy tent camping but did not have the energy or time for it right now and this was the perfect middle ground between tent camping and being home. I plan to recommend this cabin to my friends too and hope that we can even visit it together the next chance we can get away.

Frakers Grove Farm

Frakers Grove Farm has been part of my family since the 1980s, but its history extends back to 1828 when Michael Fraker arrived and negotiated a peaceful settlement with the local Native American tribes, becoming the first settler in North Eastern Knox County. His grave, along with those of approximately 26 relatives and friends, is located on the property. Camp on a 250-acre farm in Western Illinois, featuring a 1.5-acre pond stocked with Blue Gill, Crappie, Wide Mouth Bass, Catfish, and resident Grass Carp, plus a small creek. The property also has trails and abundant wildlife, including deer, American river otters, beavers, geese, wood ducks, and raccoons. A Jon boat is available for use on the pond. We offer 1 Walk-in Camp Site and 1 Drive-In Site by the pond, each with a fire ring. RV camping is currently in a trial phase; your feedback is invaluable. This area provides primitive wooded camping behind and around the pond, with the RV site located next to the pole barn. Note: The RV site listing is not normally active, so please reach out in advance if interested. Guest WiFi is available near the buildings. Assistance with transporting tents and supplies to and from the campsite on check-in and check-out days is available upon request. Bear Creek Farm and Ranch

We purchased our 45 acre farm in 1997, since then we have operated a sustainable small organic farm. In January of 2018 we purchased 58 more acres that is attached to our land. The property has a greenhouse, high tunnel and about a half acre of field that we raise vegetables and fruit on. We have a 3 acre pond with a naturally sustaining fish population, that we swim and boat in. There are hiking trails that go through many small pastures and woods with streams running through them. Plenty of wildlife, hiking and mountain biking areas. We have a certified kitchen at the farm and have products raised and/or made on the farm for folks to purchase. Supposedly our house is haunted and there are a couple of haunted sites within 15 miles of the farm. Nearby Taylorville has a Walmart, Aldi, Kroger, and many small local businesses. There is a YMCA and a few parks. Lake Sangchris State Park is close by. The capital of Illinois, Springfield is 35 miles from the farm.

There are free range chickens running around during the day. Geese greet us every evening and morning at the pond...as do the many bullfrogs. Occasionally you'll hear the coyotes, but they keep their distance. The stars shine peacefully and the sunsets are picturesque (most afternoons). The pond is a great place to swim and fish. The hillside is a nice walk for exercise or take the easier route and sit under the great oak tree in the other pasture. Campsites are off the road, behind our main home. You won't find a sign...we keep it simple. We allow pets at the sites for a $5 per pet/per night. Firewood bundles available for $10 The creek at times is swimmable, other times it's walkable, and sometimes in the heat of July it's very shallow. There is a zip line, log or bridge to cross the creek. There is a state park (Ft. Daniel) less than 5 minutes away and others a bit further (Spitler or Sand Creek) Horseback riding may be available upon request - $25.00 per person or $50.00 per family. There is a large shaded playground in the front yard for the kids with a trampoline, small zip line, ninja line, slack line, silks, climbing dome, hammocks, etc. BATHROOM: If you are looking at the house from the street, the bathroom is on the right of the house, attached to the house. It is a small shed looking building and is pictured. It has a toilet and running hot and cold water.

The Vaudeville Urban Farm Fun!

Twenty years of growing this farm... Not what grows here but the farm itself! Stone and brick pulled from the ground till we found the beautiful earth beneath and built an incredible community around it. Or rather, it grew itself from the energy that surrounds it. It's a special spot where you may happen upon a fire in the sugar shack while we boil city collected sap into maple syrup or have an open jam night with world class jazz musicians. Enjoy the morning serenade of our rooster! Really, just come and be here. Though we think we're pretty cool, a few things to note that you may not think are so cool: There is a train that runs directly behind the farm. Light sleepers, may want to bring ear plugs. We try to accommodate parking your car on site but it's weather and situation conditional. Assume the possibility that you may need to park on the street. Bring your tent to The Vaudeville! (RVs, campers, trailers, vans please see the ** at the bottom). Our urban farm is smack in the middle of Chicago only a 10 minute bike or train ride from Downtown, Lake Michigan, The Mag Mile and all Chicago has to offer! Bike the Lake Shore Trail, walk the 606, kayak the Chicago River, catch a blues show or Hawks game or just relax with the goats and chickens in the 9,000 square foot farm that we absolutely love to share with fellow campers! ** We have stopped hosting RVs, campers/vans, pull behinds and larger vehicles because we are finding it difficult to get them in the entrance gate but if you feel amazingly capable with your backing in skills in your rig and you're super patient, laid back and extra cool, let us know and we may be able to make it work!! :)
