Billy’s Place in the Woods

Small cabin with three beds, the bottom bunk is full size and can sleep couple. The other two are single beds. All have new "Memory Foam" mattresses. Campfire wood included Nature Trails Lake Access Deer hunting available for renters. as allowed by State laws. Hunt at own risk, maximum three hunters per party. There is an outhouse that’s clean. There is plenty of firewood for your stay but be reasonable with the fire. Bring all you need the place has nothing. Think like a tent! You will need it all, nothing supplied as far as bedding, water, campfire starter, TP or lights. You may want bug spray. Tics in area and the wildlife is typical Pure Michigan. Over a mile of trails to wander or ride If ATV 25 mph max speed on property. I do provide fire extinguisher. Cost if used. Addition room for tents at $10 per person per night. Maximum 4 adults or family 2 adults 4 minor children in cabin. This is a new venture for me so please don’t destroy the place. Lake access ( Muskegon River, Rogers Pond) is available via adjoining property, there is a dock at adjoining property to tie up to, if you want to put in boat at public access 1 mile away. ATV access to water if you have one. Bagged trash is removed by me, extra bags in can bottom. Remember no Heat, Lights or water Code opens the cabin door.

Retreat Center Campsites

The Retreat Campsites are situated on land owned by the Red Spirit Retreat Center. The beautiful wooded land is perfect for walking in. The stars are like brilliant diamonds, and in mid June the fireflies float up from the prairie into the trees by the hundreds. It is pretty quiet except for the birds and the bullfrogs and your own crackling campfire. In the spring the fruit trees can be seen blooming across the fields. Straw is grown on the neighbor's farm and cut and baled midsummer. The farm buildings are off in the distance but have gleaming white buildings and silver silos. Guests may walk wherever they like on trails or bushwhack through the forests of the Red Spirit Retreat Center. Each campsite is unique and pretty private. While you may see other campers you probably can't hear them as they are about half a city block away through the trees. Staying at the Country Dome Home is an amazing experience. Located on a hill at the top of the prairie, the view of farms and forests is spectacular. To enjoy the view, the front window is 8 feet tall and 11 feet wide. The 12 foot ceiling enlarges the room tremendously. There is an awesome feeling of spaciousness. On a warm day 8 foot wide by 3 foot high screens can be opened up to let and with the screen door to let breezes blow through. The solar fan then pulls the heat right out of the roof. Outside there is a patio sail providing shade. A lovely dinner can be cooked on a propane griddle while watching the view. Refurbished Jordan Brown Tamiami table and chairs and a chaise lounge provide comfortable seating. Deck chairs are out on the front deck as well. Sitting around the campfire is a great way to end the day. About 9 pm hundreds or thousands of fireflies slowly make their way to the tops of the huge trees and the stars start to twinkle as the sun sets. The birds, crickets, and bullfrogs gradually quiet down, lulling you to sleep in the most comfortable bed in the world. You feel at one with nature.. Stay at the dome in the fall or early spring and the wood stove will keep you toasty warm on chilly nights. Three rustic campsites with their own personalities are also on the land but hidden by trees. The Frog Pond Campsite is a in a sylvan glade next to the pond and creek, with parking immediately next to the campsite. The Edges and Deep Forest Campsites are both larger campsites that are located inside the forest near the Prairie. These sites are separated far enough apart to allow for a very private feeling. Each campsite has parking space very close by. All campsites have their own private composting toilets, fire pits, one bundle of wood, sanitary spray, toilet paper, and at least three gallons of water. At the Deer Blind more wood is available at the Deer Blind for $10 per bundle with Venmo or PayPal. There are two yoga mats, frisbees, bubbles, and a corn hole game for borrowing. You may request a one night stay, but it is dependent upon my availability to clean in between guests. We hope that our guests have a truly beautiful, quiet, and relaxing stay.

Pet friendly 2-bedroom, 1 bath cabin on Croton Pond with great views of the Muskegon River valley. The lake cabin has all the amenities necessary for an incredible stay. There is a private beach and a dock for a boat on a large all sports lake. Lake and beach area is accessible on property via 185 steps. There are other lake access points in the area such as Duchemin public boat launch. Only 30 minutes east of Grand Rapids, this property was established as a Youth Camp for 15 years is now a private event venue and campground, so it has nice amenities like FULL restrooms, a picnic shelter, and even a few small cabins that can be rented. Swimming beach is available in Lowell a few miles away. Fishing rivers and lakes are also in the area. (live bait in Saranac) Woods site and Open Area have a few different locations you can choose from. If woods or open shows booked already, please contact me. My family and I had an amazing weekend at Scott’s camper, they have everything set up to get you started for a great family camping trip. We wanted a quick easy and relaxing weekend and that’s exactly what we got. He even came down to the camper to introduce himself and make sure we were settled in, they allowed our dogs to explore and it was all around a great experience. He started us off with lots off wood and even showed us how to get the fire going (beginner here) His camper was well maintained and clean. He even had a table to set up by the fire, a fan, shampoo and games! At night time I was able to log into my Netflix account and unwind on one of 3 tvs the camper has to offer. The surroundings were peaceful, and quiet. We will definitely be back!

A wonderful stay enjoyed by us and our two dogs. A rare warm weekend in March, so the cabin stayed cozy with ambient temperature. Very quiet surroundings, comfortable and easy to enjoy a campfire outdoors, a nice food prep area indoors. Definitely the most immaculate, comfortable outhouse port-a-john I've ever seen! Camp is a short drive to hike in Muskegon State Park and visit downtown. Ed's a very thoughtful and friendly host!

We loved our stay at Dalton Traders Grand Cabin. Peaceful and quiet. Weather was unseasonably warm so we did not need the woodstove. Had some lovely rain showers overnight which made the cabin even more cozy. Very private with the cleanest porta potty I've ever seen. Ed was responsive and very welcoming. Cabin was clean and well organized. Close to downtown Muskegon and the state park where we found some excellent hiking opportunities. We will definitely be back next winter for some snow sports!

3 nights at Muskegon Pines-Lake Cabin

A clean, secluded, well-supplied and maintained cabin with fantastic views from the entire back of the cabin. I was able to cook full meals without issue thanks to the well-stocked kitchen; and the furnishings, linens, and bathroom supplies made the place feel like home. There were even dedicated 'sofa blankets' for the dog! A lot of places that allow pets don't do much to make their presence feel welcomed, but Mike took that extra step, and it was greatly appreciated! Baseboard heaters were individually controlled making it easy to keep it as cool or toasty as we needed, and the appliances and fixtures overall were in better repair than most rentals I've ever stayed in. The hot water pressure in the bathroom sink was low, but it really was not an issue. There was plentiful firewood for the pit out back and stove inside. The outside furnishings were plentiful, but it being off season, we didn't spend a lot of time lounging outside. There are ~182 steep steps leading down to the water, and the property does drop off sharply in back. But the view!!! Mike is a pleasant, helpful, and responsive host; and I cannot recommend him or his property enough! A note: For us, our nav/phone directions took us right to the property. Turn onto Partridge from Locust (right or left depending on your directions, but do go down to Mallard, past Partridge (PVT), and turn right. There are mucky spots in the lane that may be a bit much for a 2WD but not impassible.

I couldn’t have been happier with my stay, like a lot of the other reviews said Ed was an incredibly friendly warm and helpful guy. The cabin was very private. I couldn’t see anything or anyone which was perfect. It’s, fairly primitive, but with just the right touches to make you feel comfortable. The fire pit was great, plenty of wood. The wood-burning stove was definitely one of my favorite parts. I’ve never felt so cozy.! Will definitely be coming back!

This was such a sweet little cabin. It had beautiful craftsmanship and had a great wood burning stove. We enjoyed cooking outside over the fit pit. They also had a Coleman inside where we made our coffee in the morning. Ed provided snow shoes to explore the property. The location is nice because it is quiet but close enough to Muskegon state park to have a nice adventure. I highly recommend Dalton cabin. Ed was very friendly and a great host.

I’ve just stayed at the Dalton Grand Cabin hosted by Ed and Pat. I recommend this stay to anyone who enjoys a private and peaceful place in the woods. Surrounded by tall and majestic oaks and beech trees, this little cabin had everything I needed for my short stay. I would have definitely stayed longer, but it’s a high demand place, and for good reason! Ed met me upon arrival and showed me the cabin and grounds, and he showed me how to work the lovely efficient wood stove in the corner. Plenty of wood was provided as were some nice amenities. The location is also very convenient to the Muskegon/West Michigan area, and I had a great time checking out the Lakeshore and the winter recreation park nearby. Ed & Pat are absolute gems. I thought I might be a bit earlier than planned & they were willing to work with me and communicated with me to make sure everything was on track. The cabin is cozy, clean, charming, warm, and honestly just perfect. My dog never wanted to come in though; he loved running around in the snow. Ed explained how everything worked and on my second day I was able to keep my fire alive in the wonderful wood burning stove. I watched a deer eat corn off a tree trunk right outside the cabin. There are plenty of stores, gas stations and food spots on the way and nearby, but not too close. You really do have privacy & plenty of woods and quiet to love. It’s a perfect place to unwind, read a book by oil lamp and fire, and feel human again! I will be back for sure!

Wow! This is the kind of spot that hipcamp was made for. Delightful and cozy with plenty of land to walk on, plenty of wood for the stove to keep cozy, the most clean and welcoming portapotty you’ve ever seen in your life…near a cute little town to boot! I was even treated to some homemade peanut brittle that made me a big hit back home. I stopped here on my trip back to Minnesota for Christmas, and I’m so glad I did! The hosts were incredibly flexible and understanding and made sure I was properly settled when I got in. Absolutely worth the 2 hour detour for me and I hope to return sometime!
