Canvas Tent in Private Woodland

1 site · Lodging5 acres · Willard, MO
Camp Fernweh feels like your own personal Scout Camp, perched uphill amidst a mix of hardwoods and junipers! In the spirit of Swedish "Lagom" we have created the "just right balance" for a camping adventure that has ease without taking away the adventure.
If the season’s right, you'll find pockets of wild black raspberries and gooseberries waiting to be discovered. Take to winding trails that span our 5 acres, inviting leisurely exploration or spirited adventures. We currently have one 13' canvas tent.
Despite being conveniently close to your car, our campsites exude a sense of privacy and seclusion. Our property is 5 acres so your walk won't be too far to your camp, but you may want to consider the uphill and rocky trails to your campsite when packing.

Being good to Mother Earth is at the heart of what we do. We prioritize sustainability with a newly constructed outhouse featuring a composting toilet, ensuring your comfort while respecting the environment.
This Autumn you'll find that we are working on glade restoration throughout our property by thinning out eastern red cedar and native plantings! Our inspiration for Camp Fernweh is the "sleep-away scout camps" we never got to attend. Workshops, campfire book chats and simple camping are what we do best! Check out our website to see if we have an event going on during your stay. Camp Fernweh, just 15 minutes north of Springfield off Hwy 13, offers easy access to outdoor adventures! Within 5-10 minutes, you'll find Ozark Greenways for cycling and walking, Dirt 66 mountain biking, Sac River mountain biking, and hiking spots in conservation areas. Don't miss the nearby Frisco Highline Trail in Willard, MO, along with convenient grocers. Plus, Fantastic Caverns and Crystal Cave are just minutes away for added exploration!

Please note that Campsites #2 & #3 are directly on the banks of Dry Creek which is a seasonal loosing stream meaning that in the spring and during periods of wet weather the creek can be running or partially running. During the summer and periods of extended drought this creek will be completely dry but offers great opportunites for rock collecting and exploring. Our campsites consist of a tractor mowed area in the shade of large Walnut, Oak and Sycamore trees with no other amenities. Set your tent, camper or RV up and enjoy the beauty of our creek side oasis. We allow fires in rock or metal fire rings as long as there are no burn bans in effect. You are welcome to gather down dead wood from our property for fires but please do not cut or damage live or standing trees. Make sure fires are controlled and supervised and always douse fires with water before leaving your camp. Please remove all trash from the area when you leave and make sure you have trash containers protected from wildlife while you are with us. We also have all sorts of smaller critters like racoons, oppossums, armadillos, squirrels, rabbits, ground hogs, beaver, mink, otters, muskrats and more. Remember "Turn Around Do't Drowned" don't drive into flood waters. Access to these campsites is through an open field and may become soft and muddy during rainy periods. We highly recommend the use of 4 wheel drive vehicles when conditions warrant. Pulling heavy campers and RVs into these areas is not recommended when it is raining or after peiods of rains. You will be responsible for the cost of any recovery operations if you get stuck. This site can flood in wet conditions so caution should be used during periods of heavy rains and we may have to relocate your campsite to higher ground in the event of high water. Campsites 1, 2 and 3 are all subject to flooding and during periods of heavy rain. Only Campsite #4 is safe from floods. It is also the least shaded and will receive full sun in the afternoon. Our creeks and rivers provide lots of fun water activites but there are no lifeguards or on site emegency services. Cell service is very limited or non-existant at the campsite location and you will have to drive to higher location possibly several miles away to get service.
