Known for its pioneer history, Henry Doorly Zoo, and great steaks, Omaha makes a worthy pitstop on any Nebraskan camping trip. Campers can take their pick of RV parks right on the cusp of the city, while a number of parks and recreation areas lie within a short drive of downtown. Head to Lake Manawa State Park, where the RV campground comes with a swimming beach and boat access, or drive your big rig to Two Rivers State Recreation Park, which has 50-amp hookups and full amenities. Also along the Platte River is the Louisville State Recreation Area, a family favorite in summer with its swimming lakes and floating playground, and E.T. Mahoney State Park, with its water park and treetop ropes course. Ready to hit the road? Hikers can head to the nearby Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail or admire the fall foliage at Indian Cave State Park.
