2 nights at Palsgraf estates

Great spot nestled in the Catskills back country... the property and accommodations are ace, but the real treat is the king of the castle, the host with the most, Mr. P... he made sure everything was safe and everyone was warm and happy. Kids had a blast hiking around the woods and it was just really nice to be with and connected to nature. Couldn't have asked for more... especially on such short notice. Thanks again for everything, will be back for sure... Til then, keep on keepin' on...

Weekend Trip to Cozy Mountain Cabin

Not too hard to find. Road passable with AWD. Lovely, roomy almost new cabin. Wood stove did the truck, nice Solar LED lights outside and propane and battery lights inside. Decent cell service. Comfy beds. Nice outhouse. Everything you need except, water, food and a sleeping bag. The brook was roaring from snow melt and made for a nice white noise background. Many interesting things to do nearby.

I had a wonderful stay at River Haven! You can tell how much care and consideration went into building this cabin and we're lucky it's being shared on Hip Camp. It was too cold out to build a fire, but the cabin warmed up quickly with the propane fireplace which made for a very relaxing evening. I would love to stay again in warmer weather to enjoy more of the trails and river.

3 nights at Cozy Mountain Cabin

The cabin was better than described and was well-stocked! There was a queen size futon and four twin mattresses on built-in bunks. Everything was clean and ready to use. There is a full size couch and chair as well as a table big enough for 6 people (4 chairs). If you’re doing any winter glamping, know that the road leading up to the cabin is plowed but narrow, and best for vehicles that ride a little higher. We parked about 150-200 yards away from the cabin in the plowed turn-around area and walked our supplies in. We wish we had brought our deer sleds to help drag belongings because it’s an uphill-walk but we will know for next time! The outhouse was well-maintained and had TP, hand sanitizer, and cleaning sprays. There is a motion-detector solar-powered light too. Also, no curtains, which seems to be typical of the area but we weren’t as secluded as we’d like to be to have no coverings on windows at night. Someone in a large blue truck came up to the cabin and turned around in the driveway and we think they also passed us the day prior near the turn-around point. There is no reason to have any traffic in that area so it was a little unsettling but I’d like to assume good intentions. In all, we enjoyed our stay and hope to come again!

3 nights at The Deer Crib at Flat Rock Farm

Deer Crib was a perfect place for our headquarters for our hiking week. Marlene greeted us just as we arrived gave us the lay of the land let us know where all needed supplies and how to do lights etc. she was so friendly and informative. Craig stopped by after sanding down the driveway and shared some fun local lore, history and stories. Grafton Peace Pagoda was a cool snowy started after we settled in, we snowshoed Tibbets Forest right from the cabin, hiked Grafton Lakes State Park the next day. Peebles Island and Barberville Falls the next and finished with Dickinson Fire Tower the last day. All these spots were close by with nice drives through the country side. Everything we needed for a warm and comfortable stay, we cooked up some nice means on the easy to use gas stove, the gas lights were a nice touch. They left us plenty of water for all our needs. It really was a wonderful way to get out into the woods and fresh air. Marlene and Craig made everything comfortable.

Weekend Trip to Riverhaven

We recently had the pleasure of staying in a tiny cabin nestled along a peaceful, flowing river in winter, and it was nothing short of magical. The cabin’s rustic simplicity, romantic touches, and well-thought-out essentials made for a perfect off-grid escape. It was an ideal place to unwind and truly disconnect from the outside world. Renel and Joe were wonderful hosts, and their love for the cabin is evident in every detail. The space was impeccably maintained and thoughtfully designed, reflecting their passion and care. One of the highlights of the cabin’s location was its proximity to the river—just outside the front door. The constant, gentle flow of water created a soothing ambiance, and even under a blanket of snow, the landscape felt alive. Despite the frigid cold, we built a fire outside, roasted marshmallows, and watched the stars with the river as our backdrop. It was so peaceful and meditative that we could have sat there for hours. A great advantage was the cabin’s proximity to the owners’ home. We could park in their plowed driveway and easily reach them if needed, yet the cabin still felt wonderfully private and secluded. This balance of accessibility and solitude was perfect for a winter retreat. Inside, the cabin was warm and inviting, thanks to the efficient gas stove. We loved this cabin! It was snowy and the view of the river and trees is beautiful. The cabin is lovely and comfortable, and was cozy even in very low temperatures with the stove. We also enjoyed the card games and books on cabin building. Renel was very helpful with recommendations on food, activities, and parking. We enjoy snowshoeing and took her advice in some great local trails. Would love to stay again!

Instructions were very clear and Mike was extremely helpful and prompt in answering any questions I had. I camped there with about a foot of snow on the ground and loved the whole experience that this site has to offer and just how quiet it is in the middle of winter. There are also some really good restaurants in the surrounding towns for foodies as well.

Sacred Waterfall & Quiet Camping

NOTE: THIS IS A QUIET CAMPING AREA for reconnecting with nature. Not suitable for parties or loud groups. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty and power. It is considered a sacred site that has been central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka, also known as the Mohawks, the original inhabitants of Ioskóhare, the Schoharie Valley. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, Kahonrakén:ra Waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into a hidden pool, which then empties again into the river, running into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. The effect is transporting. Truly, it is one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that makes you feel like you are in another world. There are two tiny cabins on the property. They are both accessed by separate footpaths through the forest, below an old red barn, surrounded by ash and walnut trees, singing birds, deer, wildflowers, and wild medicines. One cabin is in the forest, just beyond a grass circle clearing. The other is down the hill through a wildflower grove. Both sites have extra space to set up a tent if needed. The Forest Cabin is insulated with hemp, has electric lights and outlets, is bigger inside with a work desk, has Anderson crank out windows, has a bigger deck, and has two twin mattresses under the bed if you need them. The Wildflower Cabin is a bit deeper in the forest, a little smaller, uninsulated with two walls of old-school wood-pane windows that open out to the forest completely, one twin mattress under the bed and a powerstrip for light electric use. Both sites have private fire pits, solar shower stalls, fans for cooling and an oil filled electric heater for chilly nights. We do not allow partying. There is a profound healing process happening at the waterfall. At the request of the original caretakers, we ask that you to respect the sacredness of this land. Thank you! It's about a 10 minute hike down the gorge to the waterfall from the campsites. Each campsite has a private path down to the waterfall, where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire at your fire pit and fall asleep under the stars listening to the waterfall and the river below. Be aware that the hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Please be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and to keep noise down after 10pm so that your camping and local neighbors can chillax and enjoy the evening sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside that makes Schoharie so special. In the big red barn at the entrance to the campsites there is a community room with a charging station, cold water sink, mini fridge, coffee maker, grills, and a port-a-potty for your use. There are also 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. :) This is a leave no trace campsite. Please take all your trash with you when you leave. And please bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. Instructions for payment are in the community room next to the red silo at the barn. The wood is stacked at next to the red shed just uphill from the barn. You can also buy your own fire wood en route. We recommend that you buy kindling at the gas station on your way in. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms with fresh produce and organic meat within 5 miles of the house. There are several farm stands and a general store a few miles away, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, and the Sap Bush Country Store and Café just up the hill in West Fulton. Mustang Valley, a wild mustang sanctuary and rescue center, is just down the road. Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, among many others.

We are a homestead and small campground devoted to the principles of organic farming and self-reliance. Modern agriculture and big business are unsustainable, destroying farmland at an accelerating pace. It is important for us to teach the next generation, there is an alternative. We produce much of our own food. We have friendly goats, chickens, ducks, peacocks, donkeys and horses the guests can pet and feed. There are no swimming holes on our property, but many waterfalls and swimming spots within a short drive (see list below). A quick 5 minute drive will get you to one of the best disc golf courses in the north east. For the truly adventurous, Clarksville Cave is a short drive away. Visit their website for list of proper gear and rules. We do rent some of the equipment needed. Just off the NY Scenic Byway County Route 16, there is tons of space for larger groups. A New York favorite. Greet the morning sun from your tent as it rises above High Peak. Surrounded by the Indian Head Wilderness peaks, you'll enjoy the cool mountain air at night and stunning views all day long. Hike the trails and then dip in the creek when you get back. This campsite is equipped with a single Queen-sized cot with air mattress, woodstove, portable camp toilet, solar heated sun shower. Bring your own bedding/sleeping bags. Drive-up access requires SUV-type clearance for the creek crossings. For easier 2 wheel access check out my other 5-star secluded campsite- Schoharie Creekside Tent. Only a quick drive to Tannersville, Hunter, Windham, Palenville, Woodstock, Phoenicia, Catskill and Saugerties where you can explore the cute town, restaurants, and shops. The site is perched on the banks of the Roaring Kill Stream, perfect for swimming and fishing. There are also lots of flat areas to put additional tents. Great access to the Roaring Kill Trailhead and to the Devil's Path Hiking Trail. If you're looking for some water activities take a short drive to Tinker Town Tube Rental located in Phoenicia, where you will also find a popular local spot, the Phoenicia Diner. Site guidelines Do be careful driving on the dirt jeep track out to the camp. Don't miss swimming in the Roaring Kill Falls. Do leave the campsite just as you found it. "Don't feed the bears." Seriously, do keep a very clean camp. Do ask questions about local activities- swimming holes, hiking, etc. Please take all trash with you, leave no trace!

Cozy Mountain Cabin

This cabin has been in my family for over 20 years. When my sister purchased this cabin it was in rough shape, with a tar paper roof and a single bunk that was falling down. With help from our father's sawmill, and helping hands of friends and family, we were able to rebuild from the ground up. Ever since then, this cabin has been making memories for our family and friends. We hope whoever gets to experience our little piece of VT will also make great memories here. This cozy family owned cabin located in the town of Sunderland, Vermont. Surrounded by hundreds of acres of national forest, campers can enjoy the sounds of a swift stream flowing nearby, birds chirping in trees, and the rustling of leaves and branches in the breeze. This mountainous area has a rich array of wildlife, meadows, trails, and only a few miles away from the Battenkill River, a tributary of the Hudson River of New York. Once inside you’ll find a small kitchen and dining area complete with a wood burning stove for those cool Vermont nights. The sleeping area offers four generously-sized bunks, a loft area, and a queen futon. Enjoy the peace of nature with a cup of coffee on the porch, but don’t forget to cap off the night with smores around the fire pit! Access to Vermont’s Long Trail System is nearby, with its 272 mile footpath and 166miles of side trails. This offers endless hiking opportunities for the day-hiker, weekend overnighter and extended backpacker. The Long Trail follows the main ridge of the Green Mountains from the Massachusetts-Vermont state line to the Canadian border, crossing Vermont’s highest peaks. As for the daily adventures, take a drive to surrounding ski resorts, including Bromley Mountain being just 15 miles from the property, where you can enjoy various activities year-round. Take a 10 minute drive to visit Mount Equinox Skyline drive where you’ll take in incredible views. Just past Mount Equinox is The Village of Manchester, which is home to the famed Equinox Resort and Spa. In Manchester, guests can enjoy everything from shopping & dining to outdoor classes for ATV driving and fly fishing!

The building site is an old Charchoal mound that was in use in the 1700's so there is a lot of history between the building and site where it sits. We DO provide pillows, pillow cases and mattress fitted sheet but recommend you to bring sleeping bags or warm blankets (and your own towles) Located in a large grass field met with a wall of great maples that surround you. During clear evenings gaze upon the astonishing display of night stars and Milky Way. We are located on an isolated dirt road and surrounded by 1000's of acres of farm land and state parks. It is a 30 minute car drive to Windham Ski resort. Kaaterskill Falls is 55 minutes and Howe Caverns just over an hour. Many State parks are within a 45 minute drive. During your walks along the dirt road you'll see majestic red barns and ponds along the way, also great for mountain biking. Also meet interesting animals along the road that belong to Heather Ridge Farm. Camp fires are NOT permitted, but we provide a Weber propane grill for all your barbeque cooking needs.
