I loved staying here specifically for the sauna and cold plunge!!! The cold plunge is a park of the creek that is sectioned off into the perfect place to plunge. The tent was warm and the bedd were comfy. there are restaurants a 5 min drive away which is a huge plus!

What a fantastic place to stay. We were greeted at the gate by Noah, who gave us all the information we needed to have a comfortable stay. (Including where we would find an excellent dinner, just a few minutes down the road.) The tent was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Restroom and shower were a very short walk. Plenty of parking and dog friendly. The other guests were quiet and respectful. Absolutely recommend this place to others.

5 nights at Rivers Ridge

Aside from the mind-blowing view and unmatched solitude, you have to drive by the notoriously best-of-Oregon hikes, "Coyote Wall", to even arrive at this Hipcamp. The treehouse offers a memorable sleep on a summer's night, and a memorable view and respite the rest of the year. My 9 year-old loved climbing to the top level to read in the hammock during our trip. The electric hook-up is compatible with a standard RV one. We have a 30 foot setup and to get it in there, we pull left and back up. It can be done, it just takes strategy. Anyways, I *effing* love this place, I have been here twice, I would recommend it to anyone who likes places with a view, who likes Hood River, who has an RV needing electricity and water but no sewage. The bathroom is in a part of the host's land that's under construction. That's ok because we have our own thing. Anyways, I love this place and me and my 9 year-old son will be back. Amenities: small wood fire pit (but fire bans will often be in effect for safety), RV-friendly electric hookup, in structure toilet, no shower, tree house with burner and small refrigerator, potable water, mattress with mosquito net in treehouse, water hookup (not sure if it's potable because we stuck to our own) , easy access to Hood River (via toll bridge) and Coyote Wall.

Such an amazing piece of property. It’s Oregon’s Disneyland for skateboarders, and snowboarders!! Jim and Kevin were always quick to respond and went above and beyond with making us feel welcome. Will definitely be revisiting. 🤙🛹🏂

The view and walking trails were wonderful, the bathroom was a nice plus as well. A little bit less secluded than I originally thought but still had enough privacy. If you’re bringing dogs (or even if you aren’t) be aware there are A LOT of ticks - picked 20+ off of each of my dogs (dead due to their flea/tick prevention). Not anything the host can do about this, but definitely something to note! Overall good experience.

It was a good experience, the tent was warm enough with a couple small space heaters to take the edge off the cool. Bathroom was clean and there was lots of hot water. It was a good experience, makes me think I might be able to do the same thing in Alaska where we live. Only will do it during the May through August time.

Rivers ridge was fantastic. Absolutely beautiful view and the perfect spot to hook up our camping trailer. There was electrical right where we needed it and a basement bathroom we were able to use right down a short path. We are looking forward to going back in the summer and renting the treehouse as well. One thing to note, is it’s a steep road up. We tow a trailer with our van and I wouldn’t want to try it if it was really rainy or any other bad weather. The directions provided by Robert are incredibly easy to follow (don’t use the ones by maps).

What an epic spot! Not only is the view of the river amazing, but the little area to park your teardrop and enjoy the views is well maintained, easy to get to, spacious to put up camp and overall very enjoyable. There’s trails that lead out from camp to explore, as well as cleared smaller areas where a tent would fit perfectly in. (Beware of ticks, though! We didn’t realize they’d be out in full force mid-February). Robert was very nice and the basement restroom that was made accessible to us was handy when the rain was super heavy. Even though the camp spot isn’t really secluded on the property (the main house is really close), we felt the space to be pretty private regardless. We’d absolutely come back again for a stay - hopefully in warmer, rain-free weather next time!

We had a great time at this site! Hosts were communicative and helpful, sites were pretty spacious and included a solo stove and picnic table as well as a small privacy fence. BEST part hands down is the indoor skate park. Kids loved it and I can’t wait to come back in the Spring/Summer and explore the mountain biking trails.

For creekside campers (campsites named after mushrooms): 4WD/AWD required, pack-in-pack-out, and off-leash dog friendly 2. For vanlifers & digital nomads (spots are numbered): vans/vehicles only (2WD okay), on-leash dog friendly, with access to hilltop barn with communal kitchen, flush toilets + showers, coworking space + wifi, laundry, and gym/game area The creek section from Candy Cap to Turkey Tail and the hiking trails are accessible to all hipcampers. Creekside campers can also get access the barn with a Blue Barn pass ($15/person). You can add the Blue Barn Pass to your reservation or come check it out and add it during your stay. MORE ABOUT THE LAND: Located right off Hwy 26, directly in between the city of Portland and the peak of Mt. Please do not throw any trash in the porta-potties. 4WD/AWD REQUIRED PAST THE BARN: The steep gravel roads can be tough for some cars and rigs (particularly on the way out) and consequently, can cause a lot of damage to our roads. If someone in your party has a 2WD vehicle, they can park up in the entry lot and get shuttled down to the campsites in a 4WD vehicle. DOG FRIENDLY: We are as dog friendly as it gets here. Unleashed dogs are allowed on this property down by the creek (on-leash required in and around the barn). If you have a fear of dogs, or have dogs that are not friendly with other people or fellow dogs, this probably isn't the right campground for you. Of course, we expect all dog owners to keep an eye on their pets so they don't disturb other campers or ingest anything they're not supposed to. QUIET HOURS: 10pm-9am. We ask that guests keep the noise (loud music and loud conversations) to a minimum between 10pm and 9am. We live onsite and will enforce these if we have to (please don't make us). NO FIREARMS, FIREWORKS OR ILLEGAL SUBSTANCE USE. This is not a late night party campsite. This property is best enjoyed in the daylight and we encourage campers who want to take full advantage of the scenery, will abide by the quiet hours, and maintain a safe space for all. OTHER INFO: CELL SERVICE: There is an AT&T tower on our property so that gets the best service by far. Verizon is pretty good. T-mobile does not get reception here. Overview

At the base of Mount Hood, Government Camp is a small tourist village servicing the nearby ski resorts at Mount Hood. It’s one of the last spots to stock up on supplies before heading south into the Mount Hood National Forest, known for its lakes, rivers, hiking trails, and ample camping opportunities. Government Camp and its surroundings are popular both with day trippers from nearby Portland and overnight guests, and the region offers a variety of recreation opportunities in winter and summer alike, both up at the ski resorts at Mount Hood, and further afield in the massive Mount Hood National Forest.

Where to go

Mount Hood

The main attraction in the Government Camp area is Mount Hood. While skiing, snowboarding, and inner tubing are the main draws here, it’s also fun to just head up to Timberline Lodge (made famous by Stanley Kubrick's film, The Shining) for dinner or a cup of hot cocoa.

Local Lakes

Government Camp makes a great jumping-off point for exploring area lakes, particularly in the hot summer months. Popular spots for swimming include Trillium Lake, Timothy Lake, Lost Lake, and Frog Lake.

Warm Springs Reservation

For a drastic change in scenery, make your way south to Warm Springs, about a 45-minute drive away. Here you can learn about indigenous cultures at the Museum At Warm Springs or simply explore the desert landscape—keep an eye out for wild mustangs who live in the area.

When to go

Government Camp and its surroundings are popular year round, and while summer temperatures can reach as high as the 80s, winters tend to be cool and snowy. Ski season varies by year, but usually starts in early December and goes until May. Cold-weather activities include skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing, while the summer months are popular for mountain biking, disc golf, and taking thrilling rides down the half-mile-long Alpine Slide.
