Hood area offers outdoor fun for RV campers.
An hour or so drive from Portland, Mt. Hood offers year-round fun, with snowy winters that lend themselves to skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing, and warm summers ideal for hiking and lake swimming. It's also a great place to get away from city life, and while you can't park your RV right on the mountain, plenty of privately run RV parks and RV campgrounds sit in the surrounding region. You'll find the largest selection in and around the massive Mt. Hood National Forest, particularly in the Zigzag Ranger District. Due to Mt. Hood's proximity to Portland, many campgrounds with RV sites fill up well in advance, particularly during the busy season from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Private RV options also dot the area, often coming with electric hookups, dump stations, toilets, and more privacy than public campgrounds.
