Weekend Trip to Zion Wright Ranch Eco-Camp

Beautiful spot. A fantastic view of Zion away from the crowds. There were about 10 other groups of campers but we felt like we were alone with the space between sites. Great stone fire pits throughout to stop and set up camp. My son enjoyed riding around the farm on his dirt bike on the dirt roads. Easy to find. The cows roaming around were peaceful and added to the vibe. There were port a potties on site which were very clean and helpful for us as we’ve been on the road for a few days camping on public lands without public bathrooms. We will be back!

2 nights at The Needles Outpost Campground

Needles Outpost was truly a wonderful spot. Nestled against a redrock formation among the junipers, it has private as well as sites with stunning views available. The store has a chest freezer full of frozen delectables in addition to the regular necessities for camp and pantry. Amber is a delightful host and made us feel welcome. The bathhouse has 2 stalls and 2 showers with 1 sink. It was very functional but in need of some upgrading. We enjoyed the close proximity to the Needles District of Canyonlands. The hiking there is great.

1 night at Zion Wright Ranch Eco-Camp

Such a cool spot! The road wasn’t as sketchy as some reviews said however I don’t think it had rained for days, the path once past the gates defiantly had some ruts you had to drive around but overall doable. I didn’t have service as my first choice spot by the tree so I moved to the more open spot along the front fence and had great views and service. The bathrooms were portapotties that were well maintained. The cows were roaming around the ranch. Overall great spot, with great views, and close to Zion where we biked the next day.

6 nights at Zion Wright Ranch Eco-Camp

We had a very pleasant experience at the Wrights family ranch. I had been nervous about the road because of all the discussion about it, but it was no big deal. It is a very typical dirt road and we had no issues. (It was dry for us) We loved watched the cows with their calfs and the sunrises and sunsets were amazing. There was tons of space but we made the mistake of stopping at the first set of trees. If I could do it over I would drive farther into the property. When we set up camp we were all alone but by the end of our trip we had neighbors on all sides. If we had gone deeper into the property we would have remained separated. Our site was beautiful so we never bothered moving. If you don’t love the sound of cow bells, bring ear plugs. We found it endearing, but there is the sound of cow bells at all hours! Overall, I would definitely recommend staying here, it is a magical place and an experience of a life time! I also recommend reading “The last Cowboys” before you go. It makes the experience even more magical.

If you’ve ever wanted to truly camp in the middle of nowhere with beautiful views and sounds then this is your spot. It’s basically an open field so you can see other people’s RV’s/camps especially if they have their RV lights on. That being said there are areas that are very private and secluded. I’m not sure why people talk about the road conditions because they were completely fine when we went (granted it was dry)

2 nights at Zion Wright Ranch Eco-Camp

Lots of land and lots of beautiful views. One of the most stunning places I’ve ever car camped. There are trees for shade, portapots strategically placed and fire pits here and there. Cows roam around day and night. They do wear bells and you can hear that all night, but it didn’t bother me. Dark skies for sure. The roads were very rutted, but that would depend on when it last rained or snowed. Never saw anyone related to the place. You just drive in, find a spot and enjoy!

The Wright Family Ranch is gorgeous. We arrived at sunset and were astounded by the view of Zion's red cliffs and green mesas. There were a few campers scattered about, but LOTS of options for campsites. We joined Bill for the horseback ride the next day and enjoyed hearing about the ranch's history while we clung to the saddles (not experienced riders were we). All fun and memorable. This was our favorite camp out of 3 weeks in the SW.

My husband and I planned to stay in Zion National Park, but decided to leave as it’s gotten far too busy for our taste. I checked Hipcamp and found “Zion Wright Ranch”. Zion Wright Ranch’s dispersed camping offers many opportunities to overlook Zion National Park, was peaceful, outrageously beautiful we will return. I wholeheartedly recommend, we love “Zion Wright Ranch”!

Beautiful setting with a variety of campsites. It was handy having the store upon checkin. The bath house was much appreciated too. One of our favorite camps on our roadtrip! You have to checkin by 5pm but it's for the best so you have time to settle in and enjoy even if just staying one night.

2 nights at Zion Wright Ranch Eco-Camp

I have never camped in a more beautiful remote place. You will really not find a better view. Loved that this site was basically in the park in a part of Zion where there were little to no crowds at trailheads (writing this in April). While it was very windy during our stay, we had no problem getting up the dirt road to the campsite, although keep in mind that if it rains, the road is impassable when wet so plan accordingly. The road is an experience in itself! To get to the Springdale Zion entrance took 30 min, and the drive was gorgeous. Especially during sunrise. We drove miles and miles on the dirt road around the ranch and admired the land and all of the cows. We read about the Wright family - what a privilege it was to stay on this land. The sky was so dark and there were billions of stars. Note: Be aware of wildfire conditions. It was windy up there during our stay and super dry. As much as you want to light a campfire, be careful, and if you do, douse your fire in water when you're done!

The Needles Outpost Campground

This Outpost and campground is located on 300 acres of private property surrounded by park and public land. It has been here for over 30 years in some form or another. We are Caleb & Amber who enjoyed managing this little oasis in the middle of the desert from March to June of 2017 when we decided to purchase the business & make it our own. This is a dry, rugged campground with a bathhouse that provides coin operated showers and flush toilets. In addition there is little old rustic camp store placed in the middle of nowhere where we provide fuel, snacks, firewood, ice, showers, cold drinks & more. If you are looking for a more private site with lots of space and shade, book our Small Group at the Rocks. For a warmer stay during the cooler months book one of our Glamping Tents listed. We have the larger, and spacious tent in the grove of the Juniper Trees (which is also amazing in the warmer season) and rent a heater from us inside the general/camp store. Red Desert RV Park has expanded to 55 full hookup RV sites along with 14 cabins. We are geared towards outdoor adventurists and sightseers wanting a cost-effective stay while taking advantage of everything Moab has to offer! We are locally owned by a family of 8 and love calling Moab our home. We understand the corporate overtaking that Moab has had in the last 5 years and plan to keep our campground affordably priced and locally owned. We have upgraded the old site plan from 7 RV sites to 55 Full Service RV sites this year. Most sites are pull through but we will have some back-ins. Our new bathhouse has a laundry, women's bathrooms and showers, men's bathrooms and showers, and an ADA compliant family style bathroom. In addition to the new bathhouse, we have a new office and retail store where we sell souvenirs, RV supplies, snacks, drinks, ice, firewood, and other necessities for guests. We do not currently have propane fill on site. We know that there are many options to choose from when it comes to staying in Moab. We urge people to support locally owned businesses that help Moab grow and solve problems that exist in our community. Moab is a recreation mecca with something for everyone and our little campground on the south end of the valley puts you within minutes of town, the mountains, and the red deserts around Moab.
