 Welcome to "Circe," our charming retro Airstream trailer inspired by the enchanting character from Homer's Odyssey. Nestled at Monroe Bay's end, this wanderlust haven offers a unique glamping experience that combines vintage allure with modern comforts. Located within walking distance to James Monroe's Birthplace on the banks of Monroe Bay. The property features a Winery (limited hours) with acres of river and land to explore.

The Trailer:
Vintage Charm: Step back in time with our beautifully restored 1970s Airstream, meticulously designed to capture the essence of a bygone era.
Comfortable Accommodation: Circe offers a cozy and well-appointed interior with a comfortable bed, seating area, and a compact kitchenette.

Guests can check in on their own with an access key. You can park in front of the end of the airstream in our parking area.  Colonial Beach is &lt;1 mile away to walk or take your car and explore. There is a kayak on the property you can launch and take down the Monroe Bay or bring your own SUP or boat.

Set up your tent in our remote but easily accessible campground, 100 yards off the Appalachian Trail. Roast marshmallows by the fire pit and watch the sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains and Shenandoah Valley.

About the property

Located on a 66-acre plot just five miles from the Shenandoah River, our property offers amazing access to hiking and the outdoors while also keeping civilization within striking distance. Bear Chase Brewery is just a half mile walk across the street, and we are 15 miles from Purcellville.

The land and lodge used to be the summer home of a trained opera singer, whose singing could be heard throughout the mountain.

Your Host lives onsite in the stone house that also acts as a hostel for hikers on the Appalachian Trail. Built in the 1930's all from locally sourced hand-hammered stone, the house is open every night from 5pm - 9pm.

Note that we offer several campsites relatively close to each other, so you should expect to see and hear other campers on the property during your stay.

About the listing

Pitch your tent in a forested area just a short walk up from where you’ll park your car. Enjoy unbeatable proximity to hiking and panoramic views while still having basic amenities that ensure a comfortable stay.

You’ll have access to a composting pit toilet, and can access potable water from the tap in the lodge. That’s also where you can access hot showers. As noted above, we host Appalachian Trail thru hikers on the property, so you may see them hanging around or sleeping in the bunkhouse near the shared facilities. so please be respectful of hours when you come in for a shower. 
No showers after 10 pm 

For meals, we have picnic tables, and you are encouraged to cook over the fire pits that accompany each site. Please practice Leave No Trace practices during your stay, as the property has raccoons and other critters who will be drawn to any food scraps that are left behind.

Pets are allowed! Please keep them on leash during your stay.

Trash can be disposed of in dumpster up the hill

No kitchen equipment is provided, so campers must bring their own supplies if they'd like to cook.

We do not offer WiFi, but there is good cell reception for all common carriers.

River Farm

River Farm is 280 picturesque acres that runs along the Shenandoah River for over a mile in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Cobbler Mountain Cellars

Unfortunately, we are unable to host overnights at this time due to regulations. We are sad to not be able to have you here but could recommend Sky Meadows or Shenandoah State Parks nearby. 

You are welcome to visit the cidery to order drinks and bottles-to-go during our open hours (Sat.11-5; Sun 12-5; weekdays by appt.) or request after-hours pick-up. 

We hope to be available by Fall or Spring and offer you a $15 credit to use on your next visit. We recommend advance reservations especially for Columbus Day & Memorial Day.

Enjoy self-sufficient camping at our 90-acre VA Cidery located 50 miles west of D.C. Visit year-round to enjoy the wildlife, serenity and changing seasons on Big Cobbler Mountain!

HipCamp uses a number system but we do not. You may choose your own spot, from our vast property, depending on your needs. Everyone should be spread out, giving privacy to each site. Many, many areas to camp all the way up into the mountain foothill. Welcome to arrive after 8:00 a.m. to begin setting up. Prior to arrival, reply back to our check-in email letter we will send you requesting a copy of photo IDs per adult, names & description of children and pets, emergency contacts per person and a Release of Liability statement, all due via email PRIOR to your arrival. 

Tents, trailers and RVs are welcome. Bring portable potties for comfort. No smoking allowed on property. No charge for children and pets camping.

Do not bring wood to the property (may transfer insects). Plenty of fallen wood to forage for your campfires. Fires out @ midnight. If planning to build a campfire, pack a shovel for assistance in managing the fire and water buckets for emergency. We have hoses for filling (unless you are camping near the creek you won’t need). 

Cider Bar open 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturdays / 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sundays and weekdays by appointment. Order our seasonal ciders for the campsite. Available by the pint, 64 oz. growler, 4-pack & 24 bottle case for take-home selections.

The entire property is dog friendly. We were pleasantly surprised that dogs were allowed in the tasting room!

Cross Creek Farm

Originally part of Blake Farm, built in the 1930's.

 Blake Farm was subdivided into 5 acres farmettes in the 1990's. 

The original farmhouse is next door, now known as Agape Farms. 

The forest has reclaimed much of the original Blake Farm land. 

Visit over 4 acres of available land, from the pastures, to the wooded creek, or the very back edge of the farm abutting deep woods.

 

Spend relaxing time petting the Nigerian Dwarf goats, Rhode Island Red chickens, and the super-friendly livestock guard dogs (Thomasina, Bucky, and Sarge).

We are also located adjacent to Agape Farms, with its horses, ducks, and chickens.

All this in horse country just minutes from I-95 and an hour from Washington, DC or Richmond, VA.

Tjhe site is down a 100 ft X 14 ft wide narrow drive. 

Chapelle Charlemagne Vineyards

Over the past two decades, we've planted thousands of grapevines on our 60 acre property. More recently, we have taken the next big step and started producing some fantastic wines from our grapes!
Our property expands over 50 acres allowing you to enjoy sweeping views and a peaceful environment.
We are located less than 1.5 hours from DC which makes us an awesome weekend adventure out of the city. Our property is also a short drive away from many hiking trails in Shenandoah National Park. After hiking in the park, come back to enjoy some of our wine at our picnic area overlooking the vines! We are also within striking distance of several other great restaurants, wineries and distilleries.
Other great activities nearby include apple picking, spelunking, swimming, kayaking, rafting, and of course wine tasting. We are near to Shenandoah National Park, Shenandoah River, Luray Caverns, Skyline Caverns, and Old Rag Mountain.
Your host is available and enjoys getting to know Hipcampers. We will greet campers upon arrival but leave campers to enjoy their stay!

We started our trip off with a wine tasting of the vineyard's 

The cabernet franc was my favorite, but my partner liked the chardonnay best! 

The previous night's storms made for some gorgeous foggy mountains in the morning.
