Creekside Cool Bus

1 site · Lodging5 acres · Chesterfield, VA
Experience the ultimate glamping adventure in our converted school bus! Nestled on 5 acres of land, the campsite features lush woods and a creek. Enjoy the peace and quiet of nature with the comfort of a home away from home. Whether you are looking to relax and unwind or seeking an outdoor getaway, you’re sure to find it here! Our skoolie is the perfect basecamp for outdoor adventures-30 minutes to Richmond and 5 minutes from the nearest trailhead at Pocahontas State Park with pass included. ——— The space Our fully functional skoolie comes equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay, but please read the full description of this space and property to make sure this is the right experience for you! Attention Guests: Please note that ticks will be prevalent in wooded areas throughout the state due to the unseasonably warm winter we had last year. According to VCU Dr. Marconi, Virginia is experiencing a “quite extreme” tick season. As the skoolie is located in a wooded area, we are diligent in our efforts to manage them, but we advise all guests to take precautions. It is HIGHLY recommended to treat your dogs for ticks before your stay, and to perform thorough tick checks on yourselves and your pets during your stay with us and whenever you are in the woods. We want all guests to understand the risks before booking and to take necessary measures to protect themselves. *Beds* Comfortable queen-sized bed in the back. The couch folds down into a bed slightly smaller than a full size mattress. We have bedding included for both beds. The bus will sleep 3 comfortably, 4 if you really like each other! *Full Kitchen* Gas stove top inside the bus (back burner knob removed for fire safety). Pots, pans, plates, bowls, utensils, storage containers, and coffee maker/french press are all included. Pantry space to store your food. RV fridge and freezer. Small kitchen sink with hot water and a 7 gallon water tank underneath the sink that you will need to empty if full. *Bus Bathroom* There is a Nature’s Head composting toilet, with instructions included, and please only use the bus bathroom for urinating only. *Main House Full Bathroom* You have access to a full bathroom, shower, and laundry in a side door of the main house. If you prefer convenience over adventure and are not comfortable with a short walk (approximately 150 feet) to use the bathroom facilities, this may not be the ideal booking for you. The owners of the house also use this space for laundry, but it is closed off from the rest of the house to ensure privacy. *Heating/Cooling* Portable A/C unit on bus. A small space heater has been provided that works well to keep the bus warm in winter. Also has a wood burning stove, with firestarters and wood for the stove included. In the winter, it could still be a bit cold on the bus so we encourage you to bring extra blankets and clothing depending on the weather. Maxxair Fan and personal fans for your use are provided. *Outdoors* Includes a deck with a small seating area, picnic table to enjoy your meals, and a portable propane grill for your use. Enjoy a campfire in the private fire ring. There is plenty of firewood to collect in the woods. Look for the gnome and follow the walking trail from the campsite to explore the creek and more of the backyard. *Electricity* While the bus has solar panels and a battery bank to be completely off-grid, it is hooked up to shore power for your convenience. Has 2 USB outlets and a standard wall outlet. Wifi is available with high downloading speeds. *Pets* All pets are welcome! Please keep in mind that there are two dogs on the property contained to the yard by an electric invisible fence. The dogs are not able to access the campsite. We ask that you keep your pup on a leash unless it is well trained and can stay in the campsite area and away from our pets. *Extra Guests* We allow a maximum of 4 guests to stay inside the bus. For a fee, you can have extra guests stay with you in a tent outside. Please let us know before booking if you will be bringing extra guests. ——— Guest access You will need to drive on grass and through the backyard to access the school bus. There is parking right next to the campsite. We will be respectful of your space and privacy, but with that being said we like to grill out and hang out on the back deck pretty often so feel free to come over and chat. ——— Other things to note The interior height of the bus is only 6 feet so please note that it could be a bit cramped for taller individuals. We will be on the property in case you have questions.

Carolzy’s Secret Gardens

3 sites · RVs, Tents10 acres · Mechanicsville, VA
Twenty plus years ago, there was an ad in the paper listing ten acres for sale in Old Church. It has always been a special place and so the adventure began... We built the house and ever since, have been adding gardens, paths, trails, benches, swings and generally giving back the love to the land for the pleasure it has provided. As a result, there is wildlife and birds galore. Hummingbirds will delight you as will the tree frogs and lizard frogs at the frog pond canoe. Wander down the path to our first vegetable garden location which is now a prime spot for pitching a tent or just hanging out and watching for deer, turkeys, or turtles. Depending on the season, you can enjoy blooming azaleas, coneflowers, crepe myrtles or zinnias. This is a super woodland that will give you every opportunity to relax and wonder at the beauty of nature. The RV site is close to the house and we will be right here should you need us.

Lightwood Forest

1 site · Lodging110 acres · Spring Grove, VA
Lightwood Forest is an ancient forest of mixed beech, oak, poplar, and other hardwoods in rural Surry County, Virginia, and is some of the earliest settled land in English North America. The stream that runs through Lightwood Forest was the original southern border of the land given by Chief Powhatan to his daughter Pocahontas, and her husband John Rolfe, as a wedding gift. Their son Thomas's house was somewhere on the property or in a neighboring field. The forest is magnificent, and is an example of a rapidly dwindling ecosystem in Tidewater Virginia. There are many possible camping sites on the 110 acres. On the property stands Lightwood House, the 18th-century home of a Revolutionary War soldier and his family. The house is available for overnight stays, or as a central meeting place for campers and guests. The property is only rented to one party at a time, with exclusive use of the entire estate. The house can be viewed as a sort of time machine, but with all modern comforts and necessities. Lightwood provides lovers of history and nature the opportunity to enjoy both--either as campers or house guests. This unique house and property offers visitors a rare opportunity to escape the twenty-first century and venture into a haven of peace, quiet and solitude. Learn more about this land: Within the expansive and protected boundaries of Lightwood Forest,  many delightful and secluded camping sites can be found. Choose between green meadows or woodland settings with ancient majestic oaks, stately poplars or silvery beeches and sycamores as your nearest neighbors. A well-trodden walking trail, over two miles long, meanders through this, your very own Hundred Acre Wood. Up hills and down ravines, along ancient cart paths and road beds, wander at your own pace through this beautiful forest, watching all the while for, and sharing your space with, Lightwood's very own forest denizens.  Who might that be, you ask? Well, look for quite the array of bird species including woodpeckers and owls, hawks and wild turkeys, ravens and crows.  Be on the lookout for woodland tortoises and turtles as well as raccoons and possums, who all live within the protected boundaries of Lightwood Forest. You may not see them during the day, but if you look closely on the little sandy beaches that line the mossy banks of the streams that run through the property, you'll see their tiny paw prints, letting you know they were there, drinking at leisure from the clear, clean water of their protected forest home. In the depth of winter, a house on neighboring property can be glimpsed at a distance through the woods, but other than that camping sites deep within Lightwood Forest are completely secluded from any sign of civilization.  The cozy and comfortable historic eighteenth-century house sleeps up to ten guests as well as up to two doggy friends. All modern conveniences are available including WIFI, a six-foot jetted tub and walk-in marble shower in an expansive downstairs bathroom.  Lightwood Forest is a land steeped in history. The main stream that traverses the property marked the southern boundary of the wedding gift given by Wahunsonacock, alias Chief Powhatan, upon the marriage of his favorite child, Pocahontas, to John Rolfe, in 1614. While the property seems far from civilization, the small town of Surry is only 1.5 miles away. Additionally, a short ferry ride away, across the mighty James River, are the nationally renowned historic museums of Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Historic Jamestowne. All lie along the beautiful, scenic Colonial Parkway.  Lightwood is the perfect retreat for lovers of both history and nature as well as for souls in search of peace, quiet and solitude.
