Weekend Trip to Valhalla Tree Farm

This campsite is one of the hidden gems of Washington. The campsite is large and beautiful with everything you could need while camping already set up for you. The outhouse is new and clean, the firepit well kept, and a permanent table with a well crafted shelter. Outside of the campsite itself the land has many beautiful trails and little hideaway spots to relax at and read or do some birding. This is our second time here and we defined plan to come back soon.

Weekend Trip to Valhalla Tree Farm

I've now stayed at all the sites at Valhalla, and they're all great. Popcorn Pond is meant for campers and RVs, so it doesn't have some of the amenities of the other sites, like a covered shelter or a toilet. But, it's still peaceful and quiet, with a fresh water spigot, table, and a great fire ring. I made a fire and listened to the chorus of frogs in the nearby pond, and took a stroll around the trails on the property. Had a great time!

1 night at Valhalla Tree Farm

What an exceptionally beautiful place- the peace and quiet afforded by this sweet refuge was just what I needed to completely relax and shed my stress. I stayed in the small cabin, which was simple but comfortable, with a sink and outhouse, and a wonderful gas stove that kept the cabin so toasty warm...There are no outlets available so keep that in mind and be prepared if you need cell phone access, I found being off grid exceptionally freeing. The host included a summary of the short trails available on the massive property and was responsive to questions and issues...This was definitely a great find and highly recommend- don't forget to bring blankets and a towel for the outdoor shower!

Pure bliss. Was so appreciative of the care that Sharon and her husband take with their land. I felt welcomed to explore the land and was happy to do so! The futon was comfortable and space heater helped keep me warm on a wet Spring night. Kitchen was just well appointed enough! I especially appreciated all of the outdoor covered areas so I could stay dry and still enjoy. Was super fun to meet the dogs too. Total sweethearts. Thank you so much!! I will be back.

Such a beautiful getaway, complete with all of the basic necessities. A beautiful view to grill out dinner after a day of adventure and sip coffee after a cozy night. Very close driving to Mount Rainier and lots of beautiful adventures. Highly recommend!

Cute, well maintained campground. The store wasn’t open any time we checked, though the neon sign said open. Highway noise is real, but not campground’s fault & as other reviewers say it does quiet down at night. Great location near Forks, beaches & rainforest.

2 nights at Valhalla Tree Farm

We stayed at the cabin and additional tent site and had a wonderful time. The scenery here seems like something out of someone’s imagination. It rained quite a bit during our stay but we still had a wonderful time. The forest was so pretty and the sun would hit the nearby mountain at certain points during the day and it appeared as if nature was lighting it up! We loved it here and will definitely be returning in the future!

John is such a personable amd friendly host. The camp store has so much cool stuff in it and a lot of his own resin art work. The Chinook cabin was very warm with a heat blower you can control from inside and a triple lock to keep the big door nice and secure. We were pleasantly surprised by having a microwave too! It was a great cozy spot to have indoor heat for a night to break up our week of car camping. Bring your own bedding for the cots. The showers are also really clean for a campsite with instant hot water. 10/10 will absolutely come back and stay here the next time I'm in the area.

3 nights at Forest Glen Cabin

I stayed five days! Luckily I was able to extend. What a wonderful experience with so many fun amenities. Bed was very comfortable, lots of cooking utensils, full stove and microwave. Lots of games and a great place to throw an axe or do a cold plunge. So many great trails and parks nearby …. access to a private boat launch at Olympic tracts. The communication was above and beyond, thank you so much Michael ! I will most definitely be coming back. *Oh the rain on the roof every night was perfect, not loud, it was so soothing/ calming!

From the moment I arrived, the staff was super friendly and accommodating. My campsite was perfectly located across from the beach. Falling asleep to the sound of the water was exactly what I wanted. The grounds are very well maintained including the bathrooms. Bring your own towel and soap as a backup when going to the bathrooms. I will definitely return during off-season. I can imagine it being packed during peak time.

Cedar River Cabin is the very definition of cozy. With a heater, mini-fridge, microwave and bottled water, it was hardly roughing it. Yet the setting is quiet, close to the Cedar River trail and full of birdsong. The mattress was actually comfortable! It’s the perfect spot to escape the sounds and pace of the city and so convenient. I will definitely be back.

Purple Cottage Studio

The *Purple Cottage* -- was found & salvaged (recycled!)-- moved onto the back of my property in 2012. This 16 X 12' place has been my studio in the past, but has offered overflow for friends & family. Nestled in the woods and ever-so-private, the cottage has a pull-out double futon, plus a small sleeping loft and can accommodate 1 -2 nicely (we will consider 3 if you have a small child, but it would be a tight fit!... There is a very small sleeping loft in the cottage.). The cottage offers privacy in a wooded garden setting. The bathhouse, with hot shower, vanity and; toilet --all steps away (and covered) from the main cabin. The Purple Cottage sits on a shy wooded acre, with greenbelt buffers all around, maximizing the sense of privacy. We have a vintage Shasta Trailer across the driveway of the Purple Cottage, which is currently used as a music studio (and rarely as family/guest overflow), and I have my own small Artist Studio located also on the back of the property. Still, with all the little enclave of buildings, the Purple Cottage Studio retains a private feel all to itself. It is located in a quiet little neighborhood, about 6 miles from Langley & 6 miles from Freeland.. Private beach access is across the road and a 15 minute walk up the street, where you can beach comb & explore the shoreline out at our little point. We are located 6 miles from the picturesque town of Langley and equal distance from Freeland, on the south end of Whidbey. Our area is very *bike-able* and either direction will get you to town! The Purple Cottage offers a rustic retreat in a place that feels far away, but is an hour & a half from the bustling city of Seattle! There is reliable wifi available (especially now that the cottage has it's own line! Okay . Beach access is a short walk away.

Oh-Deer-Me

Secluded private site centrally located just a mile from Interstate 5, and 6 miles from the Interstate 5 / Hwy 205 intersection so most places in Clark County are less that 20 minutes away. Located 10 minutes from ilani Casino, 5 minutes from the Clark County Fairgrounds and amphitheater, and less than 30 minutes from some of the nicest freshwater lakes around. Hosts are avid Flyboarders, Jetskiers, Paraglider Pilots, and Stuart has been climbing since the late 1900's (1974 and up... back in the era where if it couldn't be nailed it couldn't be climbed). This is a secluded, Park Like property with walking trails all the way around it, and some interesting things for kids to spot, especially up Fairy Lane. Walking access is permitted, but you must keep pets on leash and keep an eye on your kids. In the dry season, typically May through the end of September, fires are not allowed, and plese USE EXTREME CAUTION IF YOU CHOOSE TO SMOKE ONSITE. If you are one of those who just tosses your butts in the underbrush, you will be asked to leave for the safety of our property and guests. There is no smoking allowed inside the cabin, bathroom, or anywhere near the sawmill, or any area North of it. There is an active sawmill onsite IES-Sawmill.com. People are welcome to visit, but equipment has the right of way and may not see you. Please avoid the log decks, and especially don't allow children to play on them, as logs can roll at any time. Some of the equipment is big, heavy, and doesn't have the greatest visibility if people walk up un-noticed. Always ensure that the operator sees you, and don't place yourself anywhere where a log that comes loose could run you down. Operating Equipment always has the right of way. There is a climbing wall on the North side of the machine shop. If you are an experienced climber with a partner to belay you can the appropriatte gear, you are welcome to use the wall, please let us know first. If the hosts have time, you may be able to convince them to give you a lesson. We are changing the anchors on our ziplines, so they are not available for use at this time. There is a public bathroom in the middle of the property beside the tree fort. It's well lit and open 24 hours a day. It has a flush toilet and a cold water sink and COLD water shower. The water comes out of the ground year round at about 60 degrees so it's a chilly shower. If you need a hot shower, renting the cabin is your best bet as it comes with a private bath that has a hot shower. We try to keep rules to a minimum, but people seem to find creative ways to cause issues. Please park outside the yellow gate in the parking areas noted on the map. Please park on gravel and DON'T DRIVE OFF THE GRAVEL ROADS ONTO THE GRASS. Anita hates it, as you can cause a fire in the summer, and leave muddy ruts in the wet seasons. If you're driving through the trees, you're doing something wrong. There is plenty of wildlife on the property especially in the couple hours before dark. Best place to spot deer, racoons, pocupines and beaver are down near the pond. Enjoy your stay. Stuart and Anita

If you feel like staying in, enjoy our Mr and Mrs Pacman games in your “mini arcade” or make use of some of the supplied board games or the sudoku/coloring books available. Relax on an iconic Seattle drag bar’s original “lips couch” and grab a book from our queer library with beer available for purchase in your kitchenette. This is a stand alone structure that is separate from our main house. There is no shower in this dry space, but there is a camping sink that functions like a normal kitchen sink with hot water capacity. The shed has an easy to use composting toilet with clear instructions if you’re a first timer. Also, “Ms Pacman's Backyard Glampsite” is a converted shed, so be ready for some lower ceilings and narrow spaces. The lofted full bed is cozy, so don’t bob your head on the way out! The bed has a six inch memory foam mattress with extra blankets and pillows available. Everything is washed with free and clear laundry detergent for any sensitivities. We provide a small refrigerator, a 2 burner stove with pots and pans for light cooking, coffee making supplies (reusable keurig pods or pour over coffee along with creamers and sugars), wine openers, dishes, and more. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals and games either indoors or outdoors. You will be one block away from Highland Park which has a tennis court and baseball field. Less than a mile north, you can explore the West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails. Only two blocks south of the property is Westcrest Park that hosts a community garden, a dog park, and small trails in their greenbelt. You’re also walking distance to downtown White Center, which has a microbrewery, a roller skating rink, a gay bar, a plant store, and plenty of coffee shops and restaurants.

This information is based on stories from some old timers my husband had spoken to in the past when he bought this property in 2002. Stroll down the hill to listen to the sounds of the creek and fish ladder. Our campground cabins are about 4.9 miles from the 'Granite Falls Fish Ladder'. Visit this beauty at Mountain Loop Highway if you fancy a little hike. Drive around 7 miles to the 'Lime Kiln Trailhead. The trail is full of amazing views and history. He now consults, sells, writes, and teaches about renewable energy in the U.S. and in Central America. If your idea of a great getaway is to help out and do physical work, just ask Ian. There's always something going on at the homestead, including garden and orchard work, trail building, wood cutting, construction, sawmilling, and more. More info under the pet rule section. Thank you! Waterfall Sanctuary is a hidden gem on 17 acres, bordered on two sides by the Gifford Pinchot N F. In the heart of the Columbia River Gorge just outside Carson, Washington, it is home to a mini-farm with goats, ducks, & chickens. Deer & elk walk through the property on a fairly regular basis depending on the season, it's less than a mile walk (or short drive) to the Wind River & a swimming hole, & a short distance further is the Pacific Crest Trail. A 20-minute drive & you're at the Columbia River. An hour to the West is Portland if you are in the mood for some city life, & 35 minutes east is Hood River, a gorgeous old town with tons of charm. The closest town, Stevenson, Washington is home to shops, local restaurants, & access to the Columbia River. Also in close proximity are amazing waterfalls, trails, & National Forest roads that are close by & well maintained. No matter the season there is something to do a short distance from the property. Keep in mind that the property is very rugged except for the trails we have provided to access other parts of the property. We are as off grid & sustainable as possible- while no electricity or running water is available at the individual sites, we provide battery or solar operated lighting, & a container of water for each site.

Rusty Ranch Tree Farm is dedicated to "Eduction through Exploration" where we strive to provide your family and friends with more than just camping but also a place to experience nature and learn about forestry. Hike the several miles of nature trails on the hillside and explore our 65 acres of certified forest. Placards on the nature trail are part of our self-guided tour and provide information about forestry and the plants and animals that call this their home. You may request a guided interactive tour for your group if you prefer. Wander through the old growth groves, walk the 50' boardwalk and see the magical Fern Ridge. There are abundant wildflowers and seasonal berries to pick, as well as a variety of fall apples and pears in the old orchard available for self harvest. You can even purchase a tree to take home and plant. We also offer a roadside farm stand with fresh seasonal fruits and veggies as well as farm fresh eggs. We are a peaceful, private, forested 6 acers that is 6 minutes to a secluded neighborhood beach with big mountain views and only 8 minutes to Alder Lake State Park. Our hill-side location offers treetop views, an off-grid cabin, wood fired sauna, and soon to include select areas for tent camping. We are just 15 minutes to Elbe's Whiskey Train. 30 minutes to Mt. Rainier National Park. 20 minutes to the grocery store in town that has cool restaurants and a great crystal shop. Local hikes are close, include gravel, paths, and waterfalls. Our property IS off-grid and collects rain for water and solar for electricity. We do not have WiFi but do have cell service. Potable water is provided in small quantities at each site. Fires are subject to local burn bans and property provided materials. All areas are walk-in and include wagons to transport any gear.

Camp Keyser Forest Camp

Camp Keyser is a wooded 5 acre parcel in the mountains, near mountain loop highway - in the center of everything wonderful in the northern cascade mountains. We have one private cabin and 6 campsites. Tent campers will enjoy the lush landscape of a mature forest with sites along the (seasonal) Thirsty Creek. Nearby (3 minute walk), users can contemplate views of Whitehorse Mountain, Jumbo Mountain, Glacier Peak, and Whitechuck Mountain. This part of the Stillaguamish valley and the adjacent Mountain Loop Highway is known for a great selection of hiking trails, at all skill levels. It is perfect hub for all of your outdoor interests. The trailhead for the summit of Whitehorse Mountain is just a mile away, as is Old Mine Road trail (45 minute hike ending in 2 waterfalls). A 15-20 minute walk takes campers to a swimming hole in the cool Stillaguamish river for a dip or a paddle. Even closer is Whitehorse Regional Trail (great for biking, walking and horseback riding) built on the bed of the former BNSF railroad through the North Stillaguamish River Valley, spanning over 27 miles. The nearly level trail meanders through the valley, rewarding visitors with picturesque, landscape views of forests, farmland, streams and rivers, and mountain vistas. Sites have a generous fire pit and access to a Porta-Potty. For bathing I recommend cool dip in the Stillaguamish River. In season there is also fishing, snowshoeing, concerts at the blue grass festival grounds, a rodeo, and so much more.
