Discover the most magical spots to pitch your tent or park your rig on your next Donnelly Creek State Recreation Site adventure.
Discover the rugged beauty of Donnelly Creek State Recreation Site.
What’s not to love about the Donnelly Creek State Recreation Site? Spoiler alert: nothing. For starters, it’s considered to be the home of one of Alaska’s most scenic campgrounds…probably due to the expansive views of some of the tallest peaks in the Alaska Range. With all of that natural beauty, you’d expect a special place like this to be pretty darn crowded. But, wait for it…it's hardly ever crowded! There are about a dozen campsites to choose from, and you’ll love pitching your tent here after an action-packed day of exploring this remote slice of wilderness. Look out for moose, bear, porcupines, snowshoe hares, and tons of birdlife. If you’re really lucky, you may even see caribou.
The ideal time to visit Donnelly Creek State Recreation Site is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is most favorable for outdoor activities. Winter can be harsh and challenging, with limited access and extreme temperatures, making it less suitable for a visit unless you're prepared for cold-weather adventures.
