Hi! I'm John, with a fantastic driveway spot that's literally right across the street from the cliff overlooking the ocean in Moss Beach. Hear the ocean roar at night, dark, quiet neighborhood. Also 1 block away from the Fitzgerald Nature Preserve, where you'll see seals on the beach under the 100' cliff overlooking the ocean. At the other end of the park is a fantastic historic restaurant/bar (Moss Beach Distillery). Walk/bike to miles of cliff-side trails overlooking ocean. Boating/surfing within 10 minutes. 15 minutes to Half Moon Bay or Pacifica. 20 minutes to Purissima redwood forrest. Perfect getaway! The spot has water, electric; WIFI: Surfcottage; Password: Daniel25 A few minor restrictions: I'm in a residential neighborhood and to keep the neighbors from ragging I can't host a typical "campground scene". So we have to avoid cookouts, guitar jams all night, etc. Sorry! Only self-contained vans up to 23'.This fantastic driveway spot is literally right across the street from the cliff overlooking the ocean in Moss Beach. Beach Cliff Cottage.
We spent two nights here and unfortunately, it was lacking severely in many ways. This site was not as it was presented. The pictures and description are misleading, leading you to believe you’re parking/camping with a view of the ocean - you’re not! The very slight view that might have been visible was blocked by a parked vehicle the entire time we were there. We understood there was not a bathroom, however the description led us to believe there was a bathroom close by we could use; the only problem was that bathroom closes at 6pm. So don’t plan on needing to use the bathroom from 6pm to 8am or you’ll be out of luck. We also were awakened by the trash truck making several rounds up and down the street at 5:30 this morning, further blocking out any possible sound of the crashing waves nearby. You might be able to sleep with the windows open and hear the crashing waves, but considering you’re on a public street, there’s already no privacy so opening windows wasn’t something we were interested in. You’re basically paying $60 to park in front of John’s house with nothing else to speak of, except for the trash truck and barking dogs. This site shouldn’t be allowed on Hipcamp, as it’s not conducive at all to what is advertised.

Atypical place, very well located
Electricity and water provided. Quiet place. In front of the host house. Nice welcome.

Not What I Expected from the Photos
Because I was able to stay in Moss Beach, a lovely community just north of Half Moon Bay, I tolerated this site. Booking remotely and seeing the pictures, I was led to believe through the provided photos, that I was overlooking the coastline, a beach setting with a fire and white sands and cozy surroundings. Nothing could be further from this. My view of the ocean was through a gap in two houses across the street where I stayed. The “site” was nothing more than an uneven dirt patch directly in front of the host’s home, exactly next to the street. Because the next day was refuge pickup day, two large cans “graced” my rig nearby. At 5:30 am that morning, three separate collections trucks came by with all the light and noise you might expect. Need a bathroom? Not at this site and I knew that. Thankfully just around the corner was a state run area with a bathroom. There is a small Managed Protected area at the shore to visit as well. The upshot for me is that for $60 a night and the misleading information provided, people should consider the State Beaches nearby in Half Moon Bay, a way better value. This is a $10 site, max.

Great HipCamp Location
Absolutely fantastic location and was even given a beer from tap on arrival. It’s a small walk to the beach and lots of trails around you, and you can hear the ocean all night long - WiFi was fast and will plan to go here again.

Best RV Spot Ever… Seriously!
Hello, to whom it may concern. John’s beach cottage is easily one of the best places I’ve ever RV camped! Moss beach is the beach my father would explore as a kid. It was a dream to stay there. Will return next trip!

John was super nice and responsive. It is a great location with cool walks nearby. Bathrooms at the end of the street when park is open. While the wifi, water and electric hookup are nice, the price was a bit steep to park on someone’s front lawn that was basically the street.
