We are beginning farmers on 25 acres, we have lots of livestock here and a unique collection of plants starting out in our nursery. The property is in closed in rock walls and includes a cemetery that dates back to the 1800s. Please wear shoes our property has been a homestead/farm for a couple hundred years and does have broken glass as a result. On the property is a large rock grouping that is about the size of a modern full sized truck. We have a watering hole on the property that is spring fed and usually clear… unless the ducks get in. You can totally filter the water for drinking, we drink it. Our farm is more of a primitive campground, parking is not at your campsite. The walk is 3-5 minutes from the parking area. We have a composting toilet on site and plenty of deadwood to collect for burning. We have a pretty magical farm in rural West Greenwich. We are only about 10 mins from I-95 but we are nestled in the woods. Fall asleep to the sound of crickets and cicadas and wake up to birds chirping and our rooster crowing . It is certainly a peaceful, quiet, private area. Our site has a waste-bag toilet (must take waste with you), an extension cord and a sink. The site is located in a quiet field where you will often find deer grazing in the morning and afternoon. We are a young farming family. Our dream is to build a cidery on this property in future years. We have started to plant our orchard with cider apple varieties, about 650 dwarf apple trees, and we are also growing some flowers and squash at the moment. We currently have six pigs and nine chickens on the farm. Eggs and cuts of pork are available for purchase, just ask! Feel free to walk around the farm, just be respectful, don't leave anything behind, and be aware that some areas have poison ivy (the field where you are staying does not have any).

Milk Thistle Farm

With the original home built in 1785, Milk Thistle farm is on the historic register and is comprised of the main house and 5 acres of land. It is run as a small homestead sanctuary and is home to rescued chickens, goats, and pigs, as well as two humans and their dog and cat companions. The main property is fenced in, with a large back field great for tent camping, and an orchard to explore that can also double as hammock camping. There is parking for cars, bikes, and perhaps a camper but tent camping is best suited. We try to minimize our impact on the environment as much as possible, and encourage our guests to compost, recycle, and dispose of waste accordingly. Please note we have dogs, including a Livestock Guardian Dog that does bark to alert us of new people and warn off would be predators. Overview

About

Devil’s Hopyard got its name from a couple of different stories, although it does sounds like a great name for a delicious india pale ale. The Hopyard part is in fact believed to have origins tracing back to a farmer who grew hops for brewing near Chapman Falls, the main attraction of this area. The Devil part likely comes from early settlers who tried to explain away the unique potholes in the stone around the waterfall with the supernatural.

These potholes are actually perfectly explainable by science, go figure. As stones moved down stream, some would occasionally get trapped in an eddy, causing them to swirl around and erode the rock. The devil story is much more interesting though, which claims that the devil accidentally got his tail wet one day and was so angry, he burned holes in the stones with his hooves. Guess you'll have to go see it for yourself and make up your own mind on what truly happened. While you're there, make sure to check out the awesome hiking, fishing and mountain biking in the area. Devil's Hopyard State Park is just as full of outdoor activities as it is with history.
