Site 4 - Garden Area
Incredible Experience.
Absolutely beautiful people. I’m planning to return to help them with the farm. They have so much wisdom to share.
It’s a big project and good neighbors help each other.

Country life isn’t that quiet
If you’re looking for a slice of life in the country, or just a spot to sleep while you spend your days elsewhere, this might be a good spot for you. But we prefer to be secluded in nature, and this wasn’t it.
Pros: The hosts were very friendly! It was easy to find and the site was flat with nice trees for stringing up a hammock. They let us pick whatever dry firewood we wanted, and we really enjoyed the fire table.
Cons: it wasn’t quiet — it’s on a fairly busy country highway, across from a grain elevator that was active all weekend, near neighbors that spent most of the afternoon and evening four-wheeling, with barking dogs, and the hosts’ yard work which included cutting wood with a chainsaw and burning brush. They also offered a composting toilet on site, but there didn’t appear to be a door, so we were thankful we had our own camp toilet.
Note: the sites are at the back of the property between corn fields. We went in the spring, but the experience might be different/more secluded when the corn is taller than a few inches. It was also a generous size just for us, but could be tight for two or three groups.

Go Get Healed!
This place was a wonderful getaway for a few days from Chicago. It's quiet, minus the road traffic and the hosts are amazing. If you have the chance to do the garden tour - DO IT. If you have a chance for a massage - DO ITTTT!!!!!! My partner had one and as a body work practitioner was very excited to see what this type of massage would do for her/to her - and she just RAVED about the healing properties of it all. We spent one day driving around and seeing some sights, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and also a little place called Thriving Thistle in Apple River which was also a wholistic healing center/healthfood store/cafe - and it was amazing. If you wanna get away and enjoy good conversations and locations - this is your spot. Also - there just might be fire-dancing (no promises, but we were treated to an impromptu performance of fire spinning by their son- and it was awesome) A place full of solitude and surprise.

Spring Creek Farm
Friendly hosts, great tent site.
Had a pleasant stay at the Spring Creek Farm. Camping area is well shaded and fairly private. The ground was flat, soft, well drained, and grassy; excellent conditions for pitching a tent. Wanona and her husband were very relaxed, friendly and accommodating. They provided plenty of firewood and we had great fires both nights we were there. The wooded area nearby is full of song birds which was a wonderful sound to wake up to each morning. The area does have working farms nearby so there is some noise from trucks coming and going on the road. Also FYI the composting toilet is open air with a bit of lattice and pallets surrounding it for privacy. Personally, I think keeping it open to air is more pleasant and sanitary, but you are modest or require many creature comforts this may not be the site for you. Location is great place to explore the outdoors and also a great micro brewery run out of a farm is nearby.
