Briggs' Beryl Desert Retreat

5 sites · RVs, Tents40 acres · Beryl Junction, UT
I am a beekeeper and a bit of a wild person. One day, I hope to develop this place into a beautiful self sustaining farm and home for all my bees and outdoor retreat for the peoples. Learn more about this land: Welcome to a great wide open desert retreat. Do as you please! No one is going to bother you. Let the animals loose, roll out the off road vehicles, ride bikes, and build a fire and enjoy that peaceful good outdoor life.  The old Spanish trail can be found nearby for hiking and/or biking and there are mountains and cool wildlife all around in the valley. The stars all pop completely present with no light pollution to spoil them.  Additionally, Southern Utah has so many other trails and beautiful places all over in almost any direction. Zion National Park is only a little over an hour drive away down I-15. I highly recommend Kanarraville Falls as well, as it's at most only 30 minutes away. *** Getting to the property: It is directly off of the "main" road which consists of a well kept wide dirt road. The GPS location will guide you straight there to an intersecting road with a stop sign called 1200 E which runs south the "main" road/4800 N/AKA Antelope Springs Rd. At this intersection, there is a trail running north marked with an orange post for fiber cable. That trail and road marks the bottom left corner of the property if you're facing north. Follow the trail and find your way anywhere on the right side, there are already some campsites made up, but you are also welcome to make your own to your hearts desire. Be mindful of your vehicle, cars can drive the trail but there is always a risk of getting stuck. You can also park on the main road as you are already at the property anyway and can just walk in a little ways to set up your camp. **It's important to be aware of any fire warnings for Iron County, Utah. Do a Google search for fire threats and it should be the first thing you see. Most of the time, large bonfires will be highly discouraged. Use good judgment when building a fire of any size.  *Cedar City is a straight shot East if you need any medical attention.

The best camping near Spring Valley State Park guide

Overview

About

Located in eastern Nevada, the site of Spring Valley State Park is believed to have been a seasonal hunting and gathering spot dating back to 5,500 BC. Mormon pioneers also settled in the region in the 1800s, and left behind several structures. Today, the park is home to the 65-acre Eagle Valley Reservoir, which offers swimming, boating, water skiing and fishing, and attracts a variety of waterfowl and other birds. Hiking is also available, and offers scenic views of the volcanic tuff landscape. Picnic areas and two campgrounds are available near the reservoir, and offer campsites for tent and RV campers.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for RV campers: The Horsethief Gulch Campground offers 36 campsites, including 24 sites with electric hookups, along with tables, shade ramadas, grills, water, three restrooms, and showers.
  • Best for tent campers: The Ranch Campground seven campsites, with tables, grills, water, and primitive toilets.
  • Best for groups: One group area offers space for groups to overnight, and can be reserved in advance.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. All campsites are first-come first-served, so it’s best to arrive earlier in the day.
  2. Try visiting during the week and during off-peak and non-holiday times if your plans are flexible
  3. If you’re traveling with a group, you can make reservations for the group camping area.

When to go

The park can be visited year-round. Summer temperatures can soar, which makes the reservoir and water activities especially refreshing and a popular time for visits. Winters are cold. The reservoir usually freezes over between December and February, and offers fantastic ice fishing . Winter snow conditions can affect road and other access.

Know before you go

  • Bring everything you need with you, as there are limited amenities available in the park. Supplies are available at the town of Pioche.
  • The reservoir offers a boat launch, ramp, dock, and temporary docking slips.
  • Only camp in designated areas and light fires in the provided fire rings and grills.
  • Pets are welcome but must be kept on a six feet leash.
  • Only OHV vehicles that are insured and registered with a state DMV are allowed to operate within the campgrounds.
  • A Nevada fishing license is required.
