This 55 acre park is home of a large sandstone that contains 8 markings believed to have been made by Vikings many years ago. The park features a seasonal waterfall, covered picnic areas, playground, amphitheater with seating, community building, scenic views, gift shop and approximately 2 miles of nature trails. Be advised that most tent sites have a tent pad but a few are primitive. The RV sites are not typical with limited hook-ups and no dump station. Restroom and shower facilities are located within the park. Forest setting while still close to stores in case of forgotten items but the gift shop is stocked with camping supplies, as well. Variety of small wildlife in the area. All sites allow campfires UNLESS we are under a county wide burn ban. *Note moderate cancellation policy for most dates - full refund 3 days before check-in time. * ** Special event camping is a strict no refund policy.

State Highway 1, known as the Talimena Scenic Byway, bisects the recreation area. U. S. Highway 271 loops up through the summit. Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area and the nearby Upper Kiamichi River and Black Fork Mountain Wilderness areas were created by an act of Congress on October 18, 1988. The recreational area consists of 26,445 acres (107.02 km2), comprising the Winding Stair Mountains, several campgrounds, an 85 acres (340,000 m2) lake and many hiking trails. Privacy camping with bath houses and lake Eufaula just down the street! Camping can be in a hammock with trees close enough to hang your hammock, there’s ample room for up to three 2-man tents, pop up camper or even a small RV. Parking available for two vehicles in the drive way. There is a picnic table with a bench on each side, there's a trash can and inside is a bucket for restroom at the land. When I camp I set up a privacy area with tarps to be able to use for the bathroom and changing. A double fire pit for different cooking areas and lots of broken branches for burning. Keep alert of the burn ban times and never leave a fire burning when you leave. Feel free to get creative with the space for your camping adventure and have lots of fun!

Outlaws Jesse James and Belle Starr once hid out in the Robbers Caves, the centerpiece of this Oklahoma State Park! Lake Carlton is a great place for fishing, boating, and swimming. Paddleboat rentals are available for afternoon fun.

Rugged cliffs beckon climbers, and you can rappel down them too! Miles of hiking trails crisscross the park. You can even bring your horse and ride. The park offers a pool to cool off in the summer heat and rents surrey bikes. Bring your ATV and ride in the specially marked area.

Options abound for spending a night at this park. There are RV and tent campsites. RV sites have partial and full hookups available. You can rent a one-bedroom or two-bedroom cabin for all the comforts of home.
