Footbridge Haven Farm

2 sites · Tents25 acres · Mt Pleasant, PA
My wife and I and our four children moved to this 25 acre farm in 2017, and the creek and adjoining Mammoth Park soon became our favorite spots to relax. Our two boys swim and fish in the holes, while the girls enjoy picking flowers and making "houses" among the trees. We also love hosting friends and family for cookouts, or spending a Sunday afternoon in the cool shade beside the creek. On our 15 acres of pasture land, we raise chickens, pigs, a few dairy cows, and some steers. We are not a certified organic farm, but we raise our animals on pasture grass as much as possible, without chemicals or synthetic fertilizers. The Mammoth Park, which adjoins our property, features a 20-acre lake, a new 9-hole disc golf course, walking trails, pavilions, ball fields, a giants slide, RC airstrip, and more. We'd love to share our favorite spots with you! Learn more about this land: Relax to the sound of the babbling brook, stroll through woods and pastures, cool off in the stream, or join us for an outdoor milking experience. Take a hike, catch a sunset view, firsh or throw a round of disc golf at the beautiful Westmoreland County Mammoth Park.  Our 25-acre farm is located at the base of the Chestnut Ridge in the Laurel Highlands, beside the Westmoreland County Mammoth Park. Our camp site features a pavilion, fire place with a grill, fire ring, and swings, all beside the beautiful, clear waters of the Welty Run. You can park at our buildings and walk to your site, or park at the site. Small campers are allowed with 4x4 vehicles. Nearby attractions include golf courses, state parks in the Laurel Highlands, Frank Lloyd Wright houses, caverns, and white water rafting. Or, schedule your stay around our local events like the Westmoreland County Airshow, Westmoreland County Fair, or the one-of-a-kind Kecksburg UFO festival. Whether you're looking for a beautiful, relaxing retreat, or a base camp for exploring the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania, we look forward to hosting you at the Footbridge Haven Campsite. Directions: On Blacksmith Road off of Rt 982, you will pass our house (715) on the left, with 2 driveways.  Go past both driveways, and you will see a pasture fence on your left.  Continue to the end of the fence.  There, turn left between the telephone pole and the corner of the fence.  There is an opening in the trees, leading to the site.  There is a picture of the entrance in the pictures.

Tent camping along the Yough river.

10 sites · RVs, Tents10 acres · Perryopolis, PA
READ BEFORE BOOKING. WE STRICTLY ENFORCE ALL RULES. YOU MUST ADHERE TO ALL RULES OR YOU WILL BE REMOVED FORM PROPERTY BY STATE POLICE. All the sites are located with in walking distance next to the famed boat rental Hazelbakers! Our sites are on or near the Yough Riverbank. Although the train runs near by a few times a day, it will hardly be noticed while you are enjoying the beauty of the area. The Allegheny Passage bike trail runs nearby across the river. You can access it using the Layton bridge that crosses the river over our property. We have a very strict no asshole policy. If you are an asshole or plan to bring an asshole with you please go camp at the KOA. Camping is not an all night or two day tailgate party, hooping it up, drinking or doing drugs all night on your weekend off with 20 of your friends. Camping at our sites should be calm and relaxing. Other campers and people in general should not have to hear you, your music, or your fun and you should not have to hear theres. We have a strict no generator rule, no guns, no fire works, no amplified or loud music and again no assholes. Your neighbor may not like your music. If you must listen to music use head phones. Please do not leave any thing at the site when leaving and leave it better than you found it. The boat rental store sales snacks, ice and bait. It does not sell wood or large water bottles. Campers should bring water. We do not have showers but do have running hot and cold water in the change rooms at the boat rental. Port-a-pottys are near by. Please use them. Do not poop in the woods and leave your shit paper laying there. That's gross.

The best camping near Allegheny Islands State Park guide

Overview

About

Embark on a journey to Allegheny Islands State Park, a hidden gem accessible only by boat. Here, adventure awaits amid lush vegetation and the serene backdrop of the Allegheny River. While developed trails are not present, intrepid explorers can follow the footpaths that meander through the islands, offering a truly wild experience. Keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife that calls this park home, as you navigate the natural landscape of these riverine retreats.

When to go

The best time to visit Allegheny Islands State Park is during the warmer months when the river's conditions are ideal for boating. Summer offers lush greenery and active wildlife, making it perfect for exploration. However, be mindful of the park's tendency to flood; spring and fall may present high water levels, while winter's chill makes boat access challenging.

Know before you go

  • Ensure you have a reliable boat to access the park, as it is only reachable via the river.
  • Prepare for a rustic experience; there are no developed amenities on the islands.
  • Check river conditions and weather forecasts before your visit to avoid flood periods.
  • Respect the natural habitat by following Leave No Trace principles during your stay.
  • For any emergencies, remember that 911 is the number to call for immediate assistance.
