Originally opened as a family campground owned and operated by Denis and Kay Snyder in 1964. Bald Eagle Campsite has been owned and operated by the Snyder family to this day! Come join us in the beautiful forested landscape of Central Pennsylvania. Located a mere 20 miles south of Penn State University, we are surrounded by the many amenities Central PA has to offer. We are welcoming to LGBTQ+ campers as well as all ethnicities. Pitch a tent on a quiet site and drop a line into one of our two trout streams crossing the campground. Hang a hammock between two towering poplar trees surrounded by flowering rhododendron. Or pull up in your camper and relax before and after a Penn State Football game under the blue and white sky. We have small, secluded sites to get away from it all, as well as conjoined sites to accommodate larger groups. On property we have bathrooms, hot showers, and a recreation hall with free ping pong, board games, and billiards. For a fee, we also have firewood, electricity, and a large event tent for rent. Campers must be less than 25 feet. Generators are not allowed. Music should not reach outside your own site after 9pm. There are no water hookups. Vehicle noise is audible from route 350, especially on Friday afternoons. Noise is diminished at sites further back from route 350. Our sites are wheelchair accessible, but the bathrooms and showers do have one step up into them. Walk to Snappy's 24-hour convenience store to use their free Wi-Fi, buy bags of ice, or to pickup snacks and a sub in the attached Snappy's Grille. An ice cream stand and restaurant are within walking distance. We require a minimum two nights stay for the recognized holiday weekends for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.

Footbridge Haven Farm

My wife and I and our four children moved to this 25 acre farm in 2017, and the creek and adjoining Mammoth Park soon became our favorite spots to relax. Our two boys swim and fish in the holes, while the girls enjoy picking flowers and making "houses" among the trees. We also love hosting friends and family for cookouts, or spending a Sunday afternoon in the cool shade beside the creek. On our 15 acres of pasture land, we raise chickens, pigs, a few dairy cows, and some steers. We are not a certified organic farm, but we raise our animals on pasture grass as much as possible, without chemicals or synthetic fertilizers. The Mammoth Park, which adjoins our property, features a 20-acre lake, a new 9-hole disc golf course, walking trails, pavilions, ball fields, a giants slide, RC airstrip, and more. We'd love to share our favorite spots with you! Learn more about this land: Relax to the sound of the babbling brook, stroll through woods and pastures, cool off in the stream, or join us for an outdoor milking experience. Gordon Glen Woods

Gordon Glen Woods is nestled in the picturesque Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania and is an eight-acre wooded land adjacent to 8,200 acres of state game land and is 1.5 miles from two trailheads of the Ghost Town Trail, Pennsylvania’s trail of the year 2020. There is 49 miles of trail from Ebensburg to Indiana Pennsylvania. Visit Ghost Town Trail for more information. All Ferns Most of the Time

This spot is best for a van camp location but plenty of space for tents and hammocks. You'll find a drive-up deck if you wish to park there. Firewood is available providing you use downfalls as kindling in the stone fire pit. A 8x20' deck and picnic table are 20 feet from the fire for stargazing. When the ferns are full grown they are 3 feet tall and everywhere. A 10 minute walk takes you through a dense pine forest with large rock formations and a nice creek with many gurgling fall areas. If there looks like a cave amongst the large rocks, then it probably is a bear den. There is a lot to do near by. Some note worthy locations : Cranberry Glade Lake (good for kayaking or fishing), Ohiopyle, 7 Springs, Fallingwater, Living Treasures, Caddie Shak, and Hidden Valley are all about 25 minutes away. This property also borders Laurel Ridge State Park. There is a Dollar General and a gas station about 15 minutes away for convenience needs.

In 1889, the South Fork dam broke, releasing 20 million tons of water onto surrounding communities. This is a key spot to learn about one of Pennsylvania's greatest disasters.

The visitor center overlooks the flood site, which resulted in around 2,200 deaths. It may be grim, but the museum at the Lake View Visitor Center tells an important story. Displays, old photographs, and a short film bring visitors back to that tragic day. You're sure to feel small beneath a full-sized replica of the 40-foot flood wave.

Head outside to embark on the ranger-guided Path of the Flood Hike. You have two choices—a rugged 8-mile segment and a 5-mile segment through urban areas. If your feet need a rest, opt for a "Path of the Flood" van tour guided by a park ranger. Keep in mind this tour is only available in the summer.

You can also walk through the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Clubhouse. The club owned the South Fork Dam when it failed, and the original 47-room building still stands. At the end of the afternoon, explore the surrounding grounds and hiking trails. The 165-acre park is the perfect place to take in the natural beauty of Pennsylvania.

The memorial is open year-round, so stop by to pay your respects. This site may be somber, but it tells a crucial piece of America's rich history.
