Fort Clark began as a US Army Post in 1852; built beside the Las Moras Springs, to defend settlers along the Pecos Trail. In service until 1947, Fort Clark was a cavalry fort and home of the famed Black Seminole Indian Scouts; as well as every historic Buffalo Soldier regiment in the US Army. During WWII, it was headquarters for the 2nd Cavalry Division and it housed more than 3000 German POWs. The old Army Guardhouse is now a museum. Located 2 miles north of Garner State Park at 1101 Cold Spring Ranch Rd Concan, TX, we offer 50 full hookup RV sites with 30 and 50-amp connections available at every site. We have pull-through and back-in sites that either live in the shade or soak up the sun. There are two private river access points on the property for guests that lead you down to the cool, refreshing, gorgeous Frio River. Overview
About
This unique state park includes 20 known caves and around 18 miles of wilderness trails.
Two caves are large enough to be significant to visitors. Stuart Bat Cave is aptly named for its nightly bat flight. Hang around until sunset. That's when hundreds of bats exit the cave and fly into the darkness looking for food.
These harmless creatures are Mexican free-tailed bats. They live in the cave from mid-March until October before migrating south for the winter.
The other cave is Kickapoo Cavern. It travels 1,400 feet underground, and the cave has some awesome rock formations. Tours happen every Saturday at 1 pm, so long as at least five people reserve their spot. A tour takes from two to three hours. That leaves plenty of time to get to Stuart Bat Cave by sunset.
This smallish park has five campsites with full hook-ups. Ten campsites have electricity and water. A group campsite accommodates up to 30 people.
