The Hundred Acre Wood

4 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents103 acres · UT
Originally homesteaded by Edwin Whiting in the 1870s, the upper reaches of Hobble Creek Canyon have been ranched by our family since 1901.  Edwin was a fruit farmer and I suspect that the lone pear tree still growing (and bearing fruit) on the ranch, may have been planted by him nearly 150 years ago.  Today we raise horses, but mostly we raise kids and spirits.  Come up, set a spell, and renew your soul.

Yeehaw Ranch

2 sites · RVs, Tents3 acres · Huntsville, UT
Welcome to our flat campsite perched up on a hill, offering an amazing view of the surrounding mountain tops. There's plenty to do here, with Causey Reservoir just 5 minutes down the road, Pineview Reservoir 10 minutes away, Club Rec a 15-minute drive up the road, and numerous hiking trails to explore. Whether you prefer ATV riding at Club Rec in Monte Cristo, kayaking at Causey and Pineview Reservoirs, or fishing on the Southfork of the Ogden River, there's something for everyone. Please note that this is a minimalist campsite. While there is a fire pit available for use, you must bring your own wood and means for extinguishing the fire. Additionally, there is no Wi-Fi or cell service, allowing you to truly disconnect and immerse yourself in nature. You are responsible for bringing your own sleeping arrangements, whether it be under the stars, in a tent, or in a trailer. Accessing the campsite requires driving half a mile on uneven dirt roads and rocky terrain. We live on another part of the property and are easy-going hosts. All we ask is for respect towards the land and environment, and to pack out what you brought in. Enjoy your stay!

Moose Meadow

2 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents1 acre · Brighton, UT
This is a private driveway in a great location in Big Cottonwood Canyon. The driveway is long and surrounded by aspen, abutting the "old" unused house on my property, so it is private. Although near the main road, the site feels private. You are less than 1 minute walk to Big Cottonwood Creek, and there is hiking out the door in multiple directions, as well as easy biking to Solitude Resort. As a bonus, you are 1/4 mile from Silver Fork Lodge if you get a hankering for a prepared meal. Please note that there are NO DOGS allowed in Big or Little Cottonwood canyons. There is a high fine if so. So this is not an appropriate spot to bring your four-legged friends unfortunately.

Second Chance Ranch

1 site · Tent1 acre · Morgan, UT
My husband Shaun and I fell into rescuing horses quite by accident.  We started a non-profit to promote the Rescue, Rehab, Retrain and Rehome method to get horses out of bad situations and into good homes. We are a small rescue and hope to be much bigger one day!  Please come visit, enjoy our beautiful property and support an amazing non-profit cause while you are at it! Learn more about this land:We are a non-profit horse rescue situated on one acre. The best description I can give of our property is that it's great for a convenient and quaint "Stop and Sleep".  This is because we are located right off of the old main highway and have two neighbors within eyesight from the house. This site is very convenient for quick stays since it is so CLOSE TO THE HIGHWAY this makes it convenient but may not be appropriate for very light sleepers or for extended stays.  The camping area is simple, with wild grass and a fire pit, bordered by the river on one side and the horse pasture on the other.  You can see and hear the river easily April-July. The river is seasonal and does dry up in mid July-August. Drinkable hose water is available near the house.  If you want a ranch-style camping experience with lots of interaction with your hosts and opportunity for adventure then you have chosen the right camping location! You are welcome to join in the daily choring activities or choose to be taken on a scenic trail ride or thrilling guided gallop on beautiful and well-trained rescue horses.PLEASE NOTE: The bathroom is located in our house and has a flushable toilet and shower with hot water. Bathroom hours are 8am-9pm.  Parking is located a few hundred feet from the campsite, just off of the road.  You must walk a few hundred feet to get to the campsite and you cannot pull your vehicle right up to it. While we do welcome car campers and pop-up trailers, just know you won't be parked at the campsite if you choose to sleep this way.  We look forward to having you camp with us!

High Heaven

4 sites · RVs, Tents35 acres · Evanston, WY
Welcome to Big Sky Country with fabulous sunrises and sunsets everyday. My 35 acres sit at 7500 ft elevation with 360-degree views for miles around, including view of the snow-capped Uintas. No neighbors (unless you count the occasional cattle or sheep as it is open range). Starry skies, red cliffs, sage seas, junipers, howling coyotes: the Wild West at its best. Pull in your RV or pitch a tent. Lots to see and do in the area. The Piedmont ghost town and kilns are 15 minutes away. The majestic Uinta mountains are 30 minutes to the southeast on the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. Check out the local bison herd (including its famous white bison) at Bear River State Park in Evanston. While there, walk around the Historic Depot Area and the Union Pacific Roundhouse and Railyards further to the west. The downtown stretch along Main St. is step back in time and the site of our local brewery (Suds). Up the road on I-80 is historic Fort Bridger. Fishing available at local reservoirs and Bear River.

The best camping near East Canyon State Park guide

Overview

About

Surround yourself with a pioneer vibe in the mountains of Northeastern Utah. See part of the Mormon Pioneer Trail just a short drive from the reservoir.

There, you can imagine a line of Conestoga wagons trekking through untamed wilderness. Return to the lake for fun on the water after the short history lesson.

Launch your boat for a fun day of fishing, water skiing, swimming, or sunbathing. Rent a ski boat or pontoon if you don't have your own. Summer months can get crowded because of the popularity of the lake. Come here in early fall after the crowds dissipate a bit. It's still warm and you can have a bit more seclusion.

Remember, you're in a canyon and mountains. Hike to some of the nearby peaks for beautiful views of the valley below. Think of the fun you'll have in winter on your cross country skis or snowmobile. Ice fish after the lake freezes over completely.

Choose from 33 RV sites with hook-ups, or go with yurts for glamping. There are 78 campsites total.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • Book early to secure your spot, as sites fill up quickly, especially during peak season.
  • Check for cancellations regularly, as plans change and spots may open up.
  • Consider weekday camping for better availability and a quieter experience.
  • Explore nearby camping options to ensure you have a place to stay during your visit.

When to go

The best time to visit East Canyon State Park is during the summer and early fall, when the weather is warm and the skies are clear for stargazing. Winters can be cold, and some facilities may be closed, so check ahead for seasonal accessibility.

Know before you go

  • Check the weather forecast and pack accordingly, as temperatures can drop at night.
  • Familiarize yourself with park rules and regulations to ensure a safe visit.
  • Bring water and snacks, as options may be limited within the park.
  • Remember to leave no trace and dispose of trash properly to preserve the park's natural beauty.
  • Accessibility information is available for those with special needs; inquire ahead of your visit.
