Kennedy Peak
Owners seemingly don’t care…
Upon arrival, the spot we booked nearly a month ago was taken by what looked like a long-term renter. We tried calling the host to no answer. We messaged the host who said “you’re fine at Crabtree”. We ended up parking at Crabtree Falls and were extremely disappointed with the overall scenario at Traveler’s meadow. We originally booked kennedy peak based on reviews and fit for our RV (30ft travel trailer). Crabtree falls was extremely unlevel and unkept. It clearly shows the host does not care about grounds maintenance. Our leveling jack was at the lowest point it could go and the RV rear was like 3ft off the ground and it was STILL unlevel. The grounds grass was very tall, possibly allowing fleas/ticks for your pets. There are random holes you may twist your ankle in and cannot see due to leaves on the ground. There is water & electric hookup, but sewer is one of those portable totes and they request that you contact them to dump. We wanted to dump the night before we left so we can leave early in the morning, but the host was unavailable so we had to drag the full tote uphill twice. Overall, we only booked this spot for its proximity to Shenandoah NP, but will not return. T-Mobile home internet was 180MBPS and cell service was 2 bars of 5GUC. Verizon was 1 bar LTE.

High Knob
Too much bad DIY.
The toilet and shower situation is not good. While they exist in the strictest sense they suffer from more creativity than quality. The shower walls are just bare wood. I don't know how they intend to keep it sanitary. Since the shower and stalls were built from scratch I don't understand why they didn't allow for more room. The RV toilet is a maze of plumbing with no instruction. The compost toilet is just a seat screwed into a cement slab sitting over a recycling bin of waste covered in wood chips. Like the shower, I don't understand how they intend to keep it at all sanitary unless they get in there and scrub the slab. Trash cans were completely full for several days until weekend campers arrived. I don't know what happened but it looks like someone ran into my tent. Dont pay attention to the map they have at the toilets. The instructions for check in say to close the gate but no one bothers. Likely because the gates are not mounted properly. The site I was on would have been very difficult to pitch a tent and sleep on floor because the grade of rock used to attempt to level the site was huge. thankfully I had a cut. Nearby site with what like like a cute bridge has some sort of rigged hand rail/rope that is mounted so poorly it is just a hazard thinking anyone might consider it usable support.

High Knob
Has potential, false advertising
Site was advertised as having some privacy, there’s was little to no privacy and the tent site had almost no flat spots to comfortably put a tent down. We accidentally booked the rv site rather than tent sites, but Nathan was kind and let us use the other available site. But unfortunately there was still not much space to put our tent flat without huge branches or rocks jutting out. Found lots of trash on the ground that my puppy kept picking up, which I don’t mind but I can see how that could be a concern for others with dogs.

Yellow Cliffs Mountain
Affordable family owned campground
Nice wooded campground with water, small shower, toilet, and dish washing station. My spot (Yellow Cliffs) was not level, so I didn't sleep well; however I walked around the campground and most of the other spots looked like they were terraced better. Nathan was friendly.

We had a great time at Travelers Meadow! If you are expecting a KOA or an RV resort you will be disappointed. I was a little skeptical after reading some reviews, but glad I gave it a chance! The location does have basic amenities, plus some which were all very well kept. The bath house is not a typical glamping bathroom but they get the job done and were clean! It's a cute DIY set up with hot water!
There were mosquitoes and typical aminal noises, which are to be expected- you are outside and surrounded by beautiful farm land.
We have a 23ft trailer and a short bed truck. It was a little tight getting into high knob but definitely doable(we did it after dark). The site is on a bit of a hill and we were able to get leveled without issue. If you have a bigger rig or want flatter ground id reccomend going with crabtree falls.
There is electricity and water. No sewer at high knob but the host provided dumping options.
Definitely prefer this setting over an overcrowded RV park. We would definitely come back!

Dark Hollow Falls
Comfortable and cozy! We spent the weekend here and went hiking and exploring in Shenandoah. Nathan was very helpful and the site had everything we needed— multiple fire pits, a grate for cooking, chairs, etc.
P.S. don’t forget to turn on the hot water (the gas cylinder) before getting in the shower ;)
